Research status

Research status: CONFIRMED son of Henry L. Gold and Anna Bell Caffey Gold. The index of his Texas death certificate, no. 41693, names his father as Henry Gold and his mother as Anna “Gaffey”, an indexing slip for Caffey S1625; the 1910 census of Caldwell County, read from the image, has Elmo, 16, son, in the household of Henry L. and Anna Gold, his mother born in Alabama S1092. The death certificate is read from the index only; its image is not yet read. Added to the family tree on 10 October 2026

Life in the order the records give it

Birth1892
Born at Mendoza, Caldwell County, Texas, on 25 September 1892; died at Taylor, Williamson County, Texas, on 22 May 1981; his home was at Elgin. All of this is from the death certificate index S1625
Note
He is not the James Elmo Caffey of this family tree, who is another man

Family parents, marriages, children, siblings

Parents1949
His mother’s obituary of May 1949 names Elmo Gold of Elgin among her three sons S1552. He is probably the “J. E. Gold” who gave the answers on her 1949 death certificate S480; that certificate does not say how the informant was related to her

Open questions what is probable, weak or missing — confirm or correct it

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: the death certificate is read from Ancestry’s index only and its informant is unknown; the 1910 census gives his mother’s age as 30 where her 1871 birth makes her 39; the 1920 and 1940 censuses that may show him in Williamson County have not been read; whether he married or had children is not known, and none is named here. Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
