How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not. The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on 13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information rather than lacking it.
Attested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
Strongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field, or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Searched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Supplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands apart from the three record tags above S24.
Biological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond: no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document was read for it S46.
The person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages, places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
A branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

Research status
Evidence: An index of Ella Shreckengost Warner's 1910 marriage at Council Bluffs names her parents as Henry Shreckengast and Mary Miller; a Henry 'Schnepenger', 35, born in Pennsylvania, heads the 1860 Winslow, Illinois household that fits Ella's 1870 one. Weak or missing: The 1910 marriage is read from the index only; the 1860 page gives initials, a garbled surname and no relationships; our reading of the 1870 page found no man in the house where its index lists Henry, 49; his birth and death are not found; Ella's own link to this record is Probable. - S13181870 census — Mary A. Shreckengost household, Town of Lena, Stephenson County, Illinois, p. 27. Ancestry, “1870 United States Federal Census”, record 17424985. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 29 September 2026. Probable Dwelling 214, family 232: Shreckengost, Mary A., 37, keeping house, born Pennsylvania; Clement, 18; Ella, 11, at school; Milton, 8; Rena, 6; John E., 5; and Minnie, 3; the children all born in Illinois. No man is in the household. ⚠ The 1870 census states no relationships, and the father is absent (the index’s “Henry” is not on the page). That this Ella is Clifford Warner’s wife rests on the surname, her age, an Illinois birth and a Pennsylvania-born mother, which fit her 1880 and 1920 entries. PROBABLE.

FamilySearch, “Iowa, County Marriages”, index entries XJ85-4JP and QJDS-V3X4. Index only; the register image is not yet read. Probable The bride, a widow born in Illinois in 1859 (1857 in the second entry), is the daughter of Henry Shreckengast and Mary Miller; the groom was born in West Virginia in 1861. With it, the FamilySearch index of Find a Grave, entry QVGB-KZWJ: Henry Shreckengost, 9 July 1822 – 20 April 1896, Butler County, Nebraska. ⚠ Two index entries, not the record; the grave is not seen.
