Open questions what is probable, weak or missing — confirm or correct it

Open question
⚠️ Conflict in his own parentage, recorded rather than resolved. His 1882 burial calls him "filho natural" (born outside marriage) of Thomás Pereira d'Escobar (the elder) and Theresa Ignacia S1234, while his own 1858 marriage calls him "filho legitimo" of the same couple S1235. A marriage entry, made with the groom present and his baptism checked, is weighed more heavily than a burial informant's answer; no marriage is entered here for the elder couple, and his own baptism (sought c.1837–39, possibly under his mother's name alone) has not been found

  1. S1232Marriage of Francisco da Silva and Anna Luiza do Coração de Jesus, 12 June 1886 — Santa Bárbara (Cedros), Faial (archive copy). Volume FAL-HT-CEDROS-C-1860-1891, image 0267. Folio 38, entry Nº 12: he, 24, legitimate son of José Francisco da Silva, native of Pedro Miguel, and of Florencia Constancia; she, 19, authorised by her mother, legitimate daughter of Thomás Pereira d'Escobar, native of this parish, and of Anna Luiza do Coração de Jesus, native of Capello. Witnesses José Pereira d'Escobar, married, and Thomás Pereira d'Escobar, single. BPARJJG (Biblioteca Pública e Arquivo Regional João José da Graça), Horta — Registos Paroquiais, via Centro de Conhecimento dos Açores (CulturAçores), free public access, read by eye from the image, 4 October 2026 (SR-1004A). Archive copy of the record first read 21 Sep from a member's Ancestry upload. Same entry, now from the custodian's own scan, so the marriage no longer rests on a member upload alone. ‘Mother authorises’ fits Thomás's death in 1882 [S1234].
  2. S1233Baptism of Anna (Anna L. Silva), 22 April 1867 — Santa Bárbara (Cedros), Faial. Volume FAL-HT-CEDROS-B-1861-1870, image 0174. Folio 12, entry Nº 32: born 7 April 1867, ‘filha legitima, primeira do nome’, of Thomás Pereira d'Escobar, cultivador, and Anna Luiza, of the lugar do Caminho do Sallão; paternal grandparents Thomás Pereira d'Escobar and Theresa Ignacia; maternal José Duarte Pereira and Anna Luiza. BPARJJG (Biblioteca Pública e Arquivo Regional João José da Graça), Horta — Registos Paroquiais, via Centro de Conhecimento dos Açores (CulturAçores), free public access, read by eye from the image, 4 October 2026 (SR-1004A). Archive copy of the record read 21 Sep from a member's upload. Corrects that sidecar: paternal grandmother is Theresa Ignacia (not “Maria”); maternal grandfather is José Duarte Pereira (not “José Pereira”). Note: the baptism calls Anna Luiza a native of Cedros, the 1886 marriage says Capelo.
  3. S1234Burial of Thomás Pereira d'Escobar, 4 May 1882 — Cedros, Faial. Volume FAL-HT-CEDROS-O-1875-1885, image 0099. Folio 97, entry Nº 19: died 4 May 1882, aged forty-four, married to Anna Luiza, at the lugar do caminho para o Sallão, ‘filho natural de Thomás Pereira d'Escobar e de Theresa Ignacia’; left children. BPARJJG (Biblioteca Pública e Arquivo Regional João José da Graça), Horta — Registos Paroquiais, via Centro de Conhecimento dos Açores (CulturAçores), free public access, read by eye from the image, 4 October 2026 (SR-1004A). Anna's father; place (caminho do Sallão) and wife match her 1867 baptism [S1233]. Age 44 → b. c.1838. ‘Filho natural’ = born outside marriage — conflicts with the 1858 marriage entry's ‘filho legitimo’ [S1235]; both are recorded, neither is chosen, and no marriage is entered for the elder couple.
  4. S1235Marriage of Thomás Pereira de Escobar and Anna Luiza do Coração de Jesus, 15 February 1858 — Santa Bárbara (Cedros), Faial. Volume FAL-HT-CEDROS-C-1847-1860, image 0052, folio 49: Thomás Pereira de Escobar, filho legitimo de outro Thomás Pereira de Escobar e de Thereza Ignacia, native and parishioner of Cedros; with Anna Luiza do Coração de Jesus, filha legitima de José Duarte Pereira e de sua mulher Anna Luiza, native and parishioner of the lugar do Capello. BPARJJG (Biblioteca Pública e Arquivo Regional João José da Graça), Horta — Registos Paroquiais, via Centro de Conhecimento dos Açores (CulturAçores), free public access, read by eye from the image, 4 October 2026 (SR-1004A). Settles Anna Luiza's birthplace as Capelo (agreeing with her daughter's 1886 marriage); names her parents a second time — José Duarte Pereira × Anna Luiza — CONFIRMED. Names Thomás's parents a third time — Thomás Pereira de Escobar × Thereza Ignacia — but here he is filho legitimo, conflicting with the 1882 burial's ‘filho natural’ [S1234]. A marriage entry (groom present, baptism checked) outweighs a burial; no marriage is entered for the elder couple until found.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
