Research status

Research status: PROBABLE as a daughter of David Emily “Dee” Coffman and Mary Jane “Mollie” Wright. The evidence is strong: the index of her Social Security claim names both of her parents, and the obituaries of her brothers Joseph Franklin Coffman (1966) and Jesse Lee Coffman (1967) name Mrs. Sue Atchley of Dudley as their sister S1740S1742S1729. It stays Probable because every record is an index or the machine-read text of a newspaper page: no image has been read.

Evidence: The index of her Social Security claim names both of her parents and gives her birth on 10 May 1893 at Potosi; her 1979 obituary and funeral notice, and the obituaries of her brothers Joseph Franklin (1966) and Jesse Lee (1967), name her (S1740, S1742, S1729). The evidence is strong. Weak or missing: Every record is an index or the machine-read text of a newspaper page, and no image has been read; no town of death is known; the marriage date and the burial are in the obituary text only. Life in the order the records give it

Death1979
Sue Mary Coffman Atchley died on 18 January 1979, aged 85. She was born at Potosi, Taylor County, Texas, on 10 May 1893. The birth date and place are in the index of her Social Security claim and in her obituary; the Social Security Death Index and the Find a Grave index are read with them S1740. Her obituary, in the Abilene Reporter-News of 19 January 1979, says she died at Shady Oaks Lodge No. 2; it does not name the town, so no place of death is given here.
Death1913
According to the obituary she attended Sabinal College and Abilene Christian College in 1913–15 and was a charter member of the Dudley Church of Christ. The funeral notice of 20 January 1979 gives her burial at Dudley Cemetery; that too is from the newspaper text alone S1740.

Family parents, marriages, children, siblings

Marriage1917
Wife of Leo Litton Atchley. Her obituary says they married at Potosi on 29 May 1917 and lived at Dudley from 1919; the Texas marriage index names the couple without a date S1740. The marriage date rests on the obituary text alone. The obituary gives 1956 for her husband’s death; his own funeral notice and the death index give 14 July 1957, which is followed here.
Children1918
Mother of Daisy Bertha Atchley Morgan (1918–1989) and Etta Pearl Atchley Dye (1922–2009), both named as her daughters in her obituary. Her son is not named here.

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: every record is an index or machine-read newspaper text, and no image has been read; no town of death is known; the marriage date and the burial are in the obituary text only; the obituary’s year for her husband’s death is wrong by a year. Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
