How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

S92Family parents, marriages, children, siblings
Children1884
🆕 Her son
Samuel R. Roberts, born at Bellaire on 13 March 1884, a car inspector, married
Mary Doughty of Martins Ferry on 20 August 1907; the record names his mother as Rose A. Williams
Confirmed S1043. added 29 September 2026
Open questions what is probable, weak or missing — confirm or correct it
Probable
🆕 Probably her family in 1870: at Bellaire, Ohio,
Rosa A. Williams, 15, was at home with
Mary A. Williams, 52, who kept boarders, and Angeline, 23
Probable confirm or correct → S1153. The evidence is her name, her age (15 fits the November 1854 birth in the 1900 census
S92) and Bellaire, where her sons were later born
S1043. What is weak: the 1870 census states no relationships, it gives her birthplace as Ohio, not West Virginia, and her father, foreign-born, is not in the house. If you know more, use “Add to this record”.

Generation 5 — the immigrants and the frontier
- S921900 US Federal Census — Henry Roberts household, Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. Henry Roberts, 45, Head, b. Nov 1854, West Virginia, Glass Blower, married 25 years; Rose A Roberts, 45, Wife; Etta, 19; Florence, 17; Sam, 15; Thomas, 13. Henry's parents both b. Ohio. NARA T623, Roll 1769, Page 10, ED 0125. Ancestry collection 7602, record 62778072. Image examined, read 24 September 2026: 1590 Warren St.; Rose A. born Nov 1854, W. Va., both her parents b. Ohio, mother of 13 children, 7 living; Etta b. Feb 1881, Florence Feb 1883, Sam Mar 1885, Thomas May 1887. Anna Blanche is not in this household. Only four of Rose's seven living children are at home, so a daughter of seven living elsewhere is consistent with her own count. Siblings Etta (Henrietta), Florence, Sam, and Thomas confirmed.
- S1043Belmont County, Ohio, Probate Court marriage record no. 4724, pp. 582–583. Ancestry record 1201052391. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 29 September 2026. Confirmed Samuel R. Roberts, 23 on 13 March 1907, car inspector of Bellaire, born Bellaire, son of Henry S. Roberts and Rose A. Williams, licensed 19 August 1907 to marry Mary Doughty, 20, of Martins Ferry; married 20 August 1907.
- S11531870 U.S. census, Bellaire City, Pultney Township, Belmont County, Ohio, p. 8, dwelling 54 (30 June 1870). Ancestry record 39001297. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 24 September 2026. Probable Mary A. Williams, 52, keeping boarders, born Ohio, both parents foreign-born; Angeline, 23, at home, born Ohio; Rosa A., 15, at home, born Ohio, father foreign-born; then five boarders, a locomotive engineer and four coal miners. The 1870 schedule states no relationships, so Mary A. as Rosa’s mother and Angeline as her sister are probable, not proven. Rosa’s birthplace (Ohio) differs from West Virginia on her card.
