Research status

Research status: PROBABLE as a son of Pauline Augusta Betcher Schultz and her husband Herman Schultz, and so a brother of Minnie Mae Schultz Coffman, Otto Herman Schultz, William John Schultz and Carl Schultz. The evidence is strong: the index of his Texas death record names both parents, the index of the 1910 census of Abilene lists Philip in the household of H. and Pauline Schultz, his obituary calls him a son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schultz, and his mother’s 1944 obituary names him S1744S1718. It stays Probable because every record is an index or the machine-read text of a newspaper page: no image has been read.

Evidence: The index of his Texas death record names both parents; the index of the 1910 census of Abilene lists Philip in the household of H. and Pauline Schultz; his 1968 obituary calls him a son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schultz and gives his birth on 22 October 1893 and his death on 28 September 1968 at Big Spring (S1744); his mother's 1944 obituary names him (S1718). The evidence is strong. Weak or missing: Every record is an index or machine-read newspaper text, and no image has been read; the birthplace and the burial are in the obituary only; two different names are given for his wife. Life in the order the records give it

Military1968
Philip Schultz died on 28 September 1968 at Big Spring, Howard County, Texas, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, aged 74. He was born at Abilene, Taylor County, Texas, on 22 October 1893. The dates are in the index of the Texas death records and in his obituary in the Abilene Reporter-News of 29 September 1968. The death index gives his birthplace as Texas only; Abilene is from the obituary S1744.
Military
According to the obituary he served two years in France in the First World War, kept a grocery with his brother W. J., and belonged to St. Paul Methodist Church; it names as survivors his sister Mrs. Minnie Mae Coffman and his brothers W. J. and Carl, and gives his burial at the Oddfellow Cemetery, Abilene, which rests on the newspaper text alone S1744.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
