9 of the record's sources are cited here. The numbering is the record's own; the full list, with where else each is cited, is at Sources.

  1. S12FamilySearch Tree public pages, no login required for deceased persons — William Harry Proeger KC1N-799, Aileane Marie Silva L9GZ-NDP, William Leonard Proeger L7GK-VBK, Queen Anne Proeger LHQW-W1L — ancestors.familysearch.org. User-contributed; event lists are treated as PROBABLE unless separately sourced.
  2. S271930 US Census, Gallatin, Sumner County, Tennessee, lines 97–100 — Timberman, Nancy (52, widowed, head, high-school teacher); Timberman, Louise M. (13, daughter); Martin, Emma (59, sister, public-school teacher); Chenault, Ermin (28, female, boarder, saleslady in dry goods). FamilySearch ark:/61903/1:1:SP7V-TVZ. Page image read directly. The single page that proves the Martin maiden name from a record rather than a tree. Corrected 26 September 2026: the boarder was first read as a man, “Ernest Chernault”, as FamilySearch indexed him. A second scan of the same sheet, Ancestry record 66161418 (1930 census, ED 83-3, sheet 29B, line 100, image 4547930_00097), set beside it reads Chenault, Ermin, sex F, a sales lady in dry goods. The Chenault link to the family is unchanged.
  3. S86Joseph D. Martin and Nannie G. Martin — double headstone. Member-submitted photograph dated 4/2012, from the Coffman family tree shared by Earl's uncle David. Re-read off the full-resolution image, enlarged, on 17 September 2026. Inscribed JOSEPH D. MARTIN, SEPT. 22, 1832 – SEPT. 28, 1899 and NANNIE G. MARTIN, JAN. 26, 1844 – APR. 4, 1915. ⚠️ This source previously transcribed the stone wrongly, and the error is recorded here rather than quietly overwritten. It gave the husband's middle initial as a C and put his death a decade too early, and built an argument on that: that the stone contradicted the family tree, and that the tree's "Daniel" and "1899" had no record behind them. The opposite is true. The monument plainly reads D. and 1899, so it corroborates the tree on both the middle initial and the death year — which makes it evidence for "Daniel", not against it. Two of the wife's figures were also out by a digit each (Jan. 26 not 28, Apr. 4 not 14). A misread document is worse than no document, because it is quoted with confidence. Their identification as Nancy Louise Martin's parents is still from the tree [S30] and remains Probable — a stone proves two people and their dates, not a parentage.
  4. S971850 US Federal Census — David Chenault household, District 3, Sumner County, Tennessee. David Chenault, 50, b. KY; Louisa, 39, b. KY; Nancy, 6, b. TN (Nannie G. Chenault); plus 9 other children. NARA M432, Roll 897, Page 150b. Ancestry collection 8054, record 6857140. Shows the full Chenault household with Nancy age 6 — Nannie G. Chenault. Also records David Chenault household in Sumner Co., TN.
  5. S2061860 U.S. Federal Census — David Chenault household, District 3, Sumner County, Tennessee (P.O. Gallatin). Ancestry record 22605797; page 48, dwelling 323. Read from the image at full resolution, 22 September 2026. David Chenault, 60, farmer, born Kentucky, RE $52,600, PE $31,120; Louisa, 48, born Kentucky; Nancy, 15; with Harvy 23, [Lucy?] 12, Milton 11, Mariah 8 and William 6. 🔑 Nannie at fifteen in her father's house, ten years after [S97]. ⚠ The household may continue on page 49 (not fetched); one sister's name is not certain.
  6. S208Tennessee death certificate, Sumner County, Reg. No. 41 — Mrs Nannie C. Martin, 14 April 1915. Ancestry record 320718. Read from the image at full resolution, 22 September 2026. Mrs Nannie C. Martin, widow, born 26 January 1844, died 14 April 1915, 10th Civil District, three miles east of Gallatin; father D. Chenault (Ky.); mother "Lizzie Eastberry" (Ky.); buried Gallatin Cemetery 16 April; informant J. [R.?] Martin. 🔑 A primary record of Nannie's birth and death. ⚠ The mother's surname is hard to read. Nannie's card now carries these dates, 26 January 1844 – 14 April 1915, replacing a user-tree estimate a decade too late.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
