How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: her marriage date, 24 June 1919, comes only from a compiled genealogy; her birthplace comes only from her death certificate, given by a daughter. Know more? Use “Add to this record”.

Probable confirm or correct → Married Dee Carl Coffman on
24 June 1919, according to the 1940 Kauffman-Coffman genealogy
S1222. What is weak or missing: that is a compiled book, not the marriage record; the Taylor County marriage image has not been read. Know more? Use “Add to this record”

Generation 4 — Earl's great-grandparents and their siblings
- S1218Texas death certificate 06102 — Minnie Mae Coffman, died 22 January 1975, Abilene. Ancestry, “Texas, U.S., Death Certificates, 1903–1982”, record 1439947. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 4 October 2026. Confirmed Minnie Mae Coffman, widow, of 426 Elm, Abilene, born 4 Aug 1900 at Abilene, Texas, died 22 Jan 1975 at Hendrick Memorial Hospital, Abilene; father Herman Schultz, mother Pauline Betcher; buried 23 Jan 1975 at IOOF Cemetery, Abilene. - S12191920 census — Dee and Minnie May Coffman in her parents’ household, Elm Street, Abilene, Texas. Ancestry, “1920 United States Federal Census (also record 13162875, same page)”, record 13162876. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 4 October 2026. Confirmed Abilene, Taylor Co., ED 263, sheet 7B, January 1920: Dee Coffman, 22, son-in-law, and Minnie May, 19, daughter, in the Schultz household on Elm Street; her parents were born in Germany. ⚠ Confirms what the card already says; the ages are census ages, not birth records.
- S12201930 census — D. C. and Minnie M. Coffman, 426 Elm, Abilene, Texas. Ancestry, “1930 United States Federal Census (also record 60833934, same page)”, record 60833985. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 4 October 2026. Confirmed Abilene, ED 221-12, sheet 20B: D. C. Coffman, 32, salesman for a packing company, a veteran of the World War, and Minnie M., 29, born Texas of German-born parents, with their two daughters, in her widowed mother Pauline Schultz’s house at 426 Elm. ⚠ The daughters are not named here because they may be living. The census gives Dee Carl’s father born in Virginia; the 1920 census says Texas.
- S12211940 census — Mina May Coffman, widow, 426 Elm, Abilene, Texas. Ancestry, “1940 United States Federal Census”, record 159283694. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 4 October 2026. Confirmed Abilene, ED 221-12, sheet 2B: “Mina May” Coffman, 39, widowed, four years of high school, in the owned house of her mother Pauline Schultz, 74, widow, born in Germany, at 426 Elm, with her daughters. ⚠ The index spells the head “Chultz”; the image says Schultz. The daughters are not named here because they may be living.
- S1222Kauffman-Coffman genealogy (1940), p. 567, Texan Branch — Dee Carl Coffman, F11558. Ancestry, “U.S., Family History Books”, record 4518012354. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 4 October 2026. Probable Dee Carl Coffman, born 1 March 1898, U.S. Navy 1918, meat salesman, 426 Elm St., Abilene, married Minnie Mae Shultz on 24 June 1919. The page lists his whole sibling group. ⚠ A compiled genealogy printed in 1940, not a marriage record: the 24 June 1919 date is PROBABLE until the Taylor County marriage image (FamilySearch QV1Z-SB7B) is read. It fits the 1920 census, where the couple are already married.
