Research status

Research status: CONFIRMED daughter of James P. Montgomery and Elenor Frances Bradford, and an elder sister of Virginia Francis Montgomery. The index of her Texas death record names her father as J. M. Montgomery and her mother as Ellen Bradford S1187. The censuses of DeWitt County, both read from the images, have her as the eldest child in James and Elenor’s household: Matilda, 4, in 1860 S1093, and Evaline, 14, under her middle name, in 1870 S1094. Added to the family tree on 8 October 2026. Added 8 October 2026

Open questions what is probable, weak or missing — confirm or correct it

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: the death record is read from FamilySearch’s index only, not the image, and its informant is unknown; it gives her father’s initials as J. M., not James P.; the two censuses that were read from the images place her in the household but, like every census before 1880, state no relationship; her middle initial in 1860 is read as C. in one reading and E. in another. Her husband’s name is unsettled: the death index has Jno. F. Henry, and an undated marriage index has William P. Henry and Miss Eveline Montgomery, so he is not named as a fact here. Reading the 1931 certificate from the image would settle the first three points. Know more? Use “Add to this record” to confirm or correct this →

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
