Research status

Research status: PROBABLE daughter of James P. Montgomery and Elenor Frances Bradford, and a younger sister of Virginia Francis Montgomery. Evidence: the index of the Texas death record of Mary E. Baker, who died at Austin in 1942, names her father as James L. Montgomery and her mother as Mary Ellen Bradford S1189; a Mary of the right age is in James and Elenor’s household in DeWitt County in two censuses read from the images, aged 6 in 1870 S1094 and 14 in 1880 S1095. Added to the family tree on 8 October 2026. Added 8 October 2026

Evidence: The index of the Texas death record of Mary E. Baker, who died at Austin in 1942, names her father as James L. Montgomery and her mother as Mary Ellen Bradford (S1189); a Mary of the right age is in James and Elenor Montgomery's household in DeWitt County in two censuses read from the images, aged 6 in 1870 (S1094) and 14 in 1880 (S1095). Weak or missing: The death record is read from its index only, not the image, and its informant is unknown; it calls her father James L., not James P., and her mother Mary Ellen; nothing read yet ties the Mary of the DeWitt County household to the Mary E. Baker of Austin except the parents' names in that index; no marriage record has been found. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: the death record is read from FamilySearch’s index only, not the image, and its informant is unknown; it calls her father James L., not James P., and her mother Mary Ellen, not Ellen or Elenor; her age at death gives a birth about 1865, the 1870 census about 1864 and the 1880 census about 1866; no marriage record has been found, and her husband, probably Green Baker, is known only from the index of a son’s death record, so he is not named as a fact here. Nothing read yet ties the Mary of the DeWitt County household to the Mary E. Baker who died at Austin except the parents’ names in that index. Reading the 1942 certificate would settle it. Know more? Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
