Research status

Research status: PROBABLE daughter of James P. Montgomery and Elenor Frances Bradford, and a younger sister of Virginia Francis Montgomery. Evidence: the index of the Texas death record of Margie Idella Turner, who died at Austin in 1959, names her father as “Jim Montgomery” and gives her birthplace as Gonzales S1583; an Idella of the right age is in James and Elenor’s household in DeWitt County in two censuses read from the images, aged 1 in 1870 S1094 and 11 in 1880 S1095. Added to the family tree on 8 October 2026. Added 8 October 2026

Evidence: The index of the Texas death record of Margie Idella Turner, who died at Austin on 10 January 1959, gives her birth on 15 March at Gonzales and names her father as Jim Montgomery (S1583); an Idella of the right age is in James and Elenor Montgomery's household in DeWitt County in two censuses read from the images, aged 1 in 1870 (S1094) and 11 in 1880 (S1095); the Austin American-Statesman of 10 and 12 January 1959, read from the newspaper text, reports Mrs. Margie Idella Turner, 90, of Austin (S1583). Weak or missing: The death record is read from its index only, not the certificate image, and the index names no mother, so Elenor rests on the census households; the birth year 1868 comes from a grave index; nothing read yet ties the Idella of the DeWitt County household to the Mrs. Turner of Austin except the father's name in that index; no marriage record has been found. Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: the death record is read from FamilySearch’s index only, not the certificate image; the index names no mother, so Elenor rests on the two census households; the year 1868 comes from a grave index, and the censuses give a birth about 1869; no marriage record has been found, and her husband is known only from census indexes, so he is given below as Probable. Nothing read yet ties the Idella of the DeWitt County household to the Mrs. Turner who died at Austin except the father’s name in that index. Reading the 1959 certificate would settle it. Know more? Probable
Probable confirm or correct → Her husband was probably Robert H. Turner, born about 1869 or 1870 in Texas. In 1910 and 1920 he heads a Travis County household with a wife Della, born about 1869, and a son Morris, born 1901; in 1930 Idella Turner, born about 1871, is in Morris Turner’s household at Austin S1601. The 1910 household also lists William C. (1893), Joseph H. (1895), Ora L. (1905) and Inez (1908). What is weak or missing: all three censuses are read from indexes, not the pages; no marriage record has been found; he is not in the 1930 household and his death is not yet read; he is not added to the tree as a person. Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
