Research status

Research status: PROBABLE — added 24 September 2026 and entered in the family tree the same day, labelled probable there too; Louise Emma's sister Henriette Harbauer's baptism, Salem Zion United Church of Christ, Philadelphia, 29 March 1863 (born 28 May 1848), names her parents as Ludwig Harbauer and Eva Maria Jung; the 1870 Philadelphia census has Eva with the children, among them Louisa, 7, and Henrettia S175

Evidence: A sister's 1863 baptism naming Ludwig Harbauer and Eva Jung, the 1870 Philadelphia census, and a typed transcript of their 1844 church marriage. Weak or missing: Nothing names Louise Emma herself as his child, and the 1844 marriage is known only from a later typed copy. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

  1. S1751870 U.S. Federal Census — the Harbauer children, Philadelphia, 31st District. Ancestry collection 7163, record 5628177, image 4278818_00714; page 96, enumerated 25 June 1870. Read from the image at full resolution, 22 September 2026. A household continued from page 95: Lewis 25, Maroco finisher; Henrettia 22, dress maker; Annie 20, milliner; Adaline 18; George 15 and Henry 9, at school; Louisa, 7, born Pennsylvania, both parents foreign-born, at school; lodger Jacob North 26, packing-box maker, born Kurhessen. 🔑 The earliest record of Louise Emma Harbauer — age 7 fits the June 1863 birth. The same siblings and Jacob North are with the widow Eva Harbauer in 1880 [S176]. ⚠ The parents are on page 95, which was not fetched. Ancestry's inferred father Lewis is wrong — Lewis, 25, is the eldest brother. No father is published.
  2. S1761880 U.S. Federal Census — Eva Harbauer household, 149 Noble Street, Philadelphia. Ancestry collection 6742, record 225860, image 4244458-00660; SD 1, ED 190, page 11, enumerated 5 June 1880; house 149, dwelling 85, family 109. Read from the image at full resolution, 22 September 2026. Eva Harbauer, 55, widowed, keeping house; Henry 25 and George 19, sons, morocco dressers; Louisa, 17, daughter, single, "In store"; then Jacob North 35, box maker, with his wife Adoline 28 (the Adaline of 1870), Clara 8 and Albert 5. 🔑 Louise's mother is named: Eva Harbauer, a widow by 1880. 🔑 In the next house, 151 Noble Street, boards "Jas Timberman", 22 — the age of James Harris Timberman Sr, born June 1858. Neighbours in 1880, married about 1886 [S139]. The identification is by name and age only and is stated as such. ⚠ The birthplace columns on this page drift against the name rows — Louisa's line carries Bavaria three times, Eva's Pennsylvania/Ireland/Ireland. Ancestry's born Bavaria for Louisa is built on the drift; 1870 and 1910 both say Pennsylvania, and Pennsylvania stands.
  3. S582Typed transcript of a Philadelphia church marriage register, register p. 229, 9 September 1844. Ancestry record 4849585. Image examined, read 25 September 2026. Confirmed 9 September 1844: Ludwig Halbauer with Eva Jung, both of the Northern Liberties. A later typed copy, not the register itself; the original page has not been seen.
  4. S9691850 United States Federal Census — Northern Liberties Ward 3, Philadelphia Co., Pennsylvania, page 152 (9 August 1850): Lewis and Eve Harbour. Ancestry record 4931983. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 24 September 2026. Probable The continuation of the Jacob Young family in S838: Lewis Harbour, 27, male, cabinet maker, born France; Eve, 24, born France; Lewis, 5, Harriet, 3, and Sarah, 4 months, all born Pennsylvania. Read from the image; S838 had this page only from the FamilySearch index. Harbour is the enumerator's English spelling of Harbauer. Why Probable: the 1850 census states no relationships, so Eve is the wife and the children are theirs by position only, and nothing on the page names Louise (born 1863). What fits: Eva Harbauer was born in June 1825, so exactly 24; the 1870 census also has her born in France; a cabinet maker Ludwig Harbauer is her husband in 1863; and Henriette, born 28 May 1848, is close to Harriet, 3. Collection: 1850 United States Federal Census (db 8054, image 4205114_00308).

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
