Research status

Research status: CONFIRMED — status raised 11 October 2026. Evidence: four register entries, each read from the page image and written in three different hands: his own banns at Crailsheim in Advent 1799 S1690; the baptism of his daughter Elisabetha Sabina at Crailsheim, 31 May 1803 S1688; her marriage at Triensbach, 11 October 1835 S1689; and her burial at Kirchberg, 14 August 1872 S133. The 1799 and 1803 entries call him Johann Friederich; the 1835 and 1872 entries add Melchior

History of this card: 22 Sep 2026
carded from our reading of his daughter's 1872 burial entry, with the second name "Heinrich" and the trade of glazier; 11 Oct 2026 — that reading was mistaken. Three further register images and a re-read of the 1872 entry give "Friedr." and bell founder; card renamed and regraded Probable → Confirmed (S1688–S1690, S133). The page address was changed to the register name the same day; the old address forwards here.

Marriage1799
Husband of Maria Dorothea Wolf Confirmed. Their banns were called at Crailsheim on the 27th Sunday after Trinity and the first two Sundays of Advent 1799; a note in the margin shows that the wedding itself was held in another parish, whose name is not yet read S1690
Children1803
Father of Elisabethe Sabina Lösch Confirmed, born at Crailsheim on 26 May 1803 S1688. He was dead by August 1872: her burial entry marks him deceased S133
Parents1799
His own father Probable: the 1799 entry calls him the son of the late Herr [Johann Ernst?] Lösch, senator of Crailsheim, an officer of the town treasury and master of works. Evidence: that one entry. Weak: the given names are not securely read, and no second record has been found, so he has no card yet. Know more? Confirm or correct this → S1690

  1. S133Elisabetha Sabina (Lösch) Prüger — burial register, Kirchberg u. Oa., 14 August 1872. Evangelische Kirche Kirchberg (OA. Gerabronn), Heiraten u. Tote 1784–1896, image 656 of 706, burial entry no. 534; Landeskirchliches Archiv Stuttgart, through Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials, 1500–1985 (Ancestry collection 61023, record 15195655). Read from the register image at full resolution, 4796 × 4013 px, 21 September 2026; re-read 11 October 2026. Died 12 August 1872 at five in the morning, a Wittwe (widow) of Kirchberg; buried 14 August at ten; born at Crailsheim, 26 May 1803. Father Joh. Friedr. Melchior Lösch, Glockengießer (bell founder) in Crailsheim, marked deceased; mother Maria Dorothea geb. Wolf, marked deceased; her late husband G. Melch. Jul. Prüger, in Kirchberg. The register gives a surname, a death date, a birth date and both parents. The Ancestry index of this same entry reads her surname as something else entirely, a misread of the Kurrent. The register names her father a Lösch of Crailsheim, which is the birthplace the German deaths index independently gives her, and her son's 1924 Pittsburgh death certificate [S68] gives his mother's maiden name as Loesch. On the death date the two Ancestry indexes disagreed, 13 August in collection 61023 and 12 August in collection 9868; the image says 12 August. The birth date is written in the entry and agrees with her baptism [S1688] and her marriage [S1689]. Her husband's trade word is abbreviated; his own burial entry calls him a master shoemaker [S135]. History: at the 600 px tier this page was illegible and an earlier pass misattributed the parents' column to her husband. The full-resolution reading of 21 September 2026 then took the father's second name, his trade and the mother's maiden name wrongly (as Heinrich, a glazier, and Muck) and back-calculated a late-April birth from the age column; the re-read of 11 October 2026, checked against three other register images in two other hands, gives Friedr., bell founder and Wolf.
  2. S1688Elisabetha Sabina Lösch — baptism register, Crailsheim, 31 May 1803. Evangelische Kirche Crailsheim, Bd. 9, Taufregister p. 234, 1803 no. 61; Landeskirchliches Archiv Stuttgart, through Ancestry collection 61023, image 1859388-00363 (the entry is not in Ancestry's name index). Read from the register image, 11 October 2026. Confirmed "61. Crl. — Elisabetha Sabina — Johann Friederich Lösch, Glockengießer, mit Maria Dorothea, geb. Wolf, ehel. T. geb. d. 26. Mai, den 31. get." In English: Elisabetha Sabina, legitimate daughter of Johann Friederich Lösch, bell founder, and Maria Dorothea née Wolf, born 26 May, baptised the 31st. Godmothers: Sabina Maria, wife of a merchant, and Maria Elisabetha, wife of master tailor Ziegler, both of Crailsheim. Found by paging the register from the indexed Lösch baptisms of 1804 and 1806. Weak: the first godmother's married surname is not securely read.
  3. S1689Georg Melchior Julius Pröger and Elisabetha Sabina Lösch — marriage register, Triensbach, 11 October 1835. Evangelische Kirche Triensbach, Bd. 12, Eheregister pp. 38–39, 1835, unnumbered entry between no. 3 and no. 4; Landeskirchliches Archiv Stuttgart, through Ancestry collection 61023, record 916798755, image 1860313-00898. Read from the register image, 11 October 2026. Confirmed Groom: "Georg Melchior Julius Pröger — [Schuster] in Kirchberg; ev. — Johann Leonhard David Pröger, Weber in Erkenbrechtshausen; Eva Barbara, geb. Schmidt — led. — Erkenbrechtsh. 25. Juli 1804". Bride: "Elisabetha Sabina Lösch — Mädchen von Crailsheim; ev. — Johann Friedrich Melchior Lösch, B. u. Glockengießer in Crailsheim; Maria Dorothea geb. Wolf — ledig — Crailsheim 26. May 1803". "Copulation: Triensbach d. 11. October 1835". In English: the groom a shoemaker in Kirchberg, Lutheran, single, born at Erkenbrechtshausen 25 July 1804, son of the weaver Johann Leonhard David Pröger and Eva Barbara née Schmidt; the bride an unmarried woman of Crailsheim, born there 26 May 1803, daughter of Johann Friedrich Melchior Lösch, citizen and bell founder, and Maria Dorothea née Wolf; banns on the 15th to 17th Sundays after Trinity at Crailsheim and Triensbach; married at Triensbach on 11 October 1835 by Pfarrer Mondon; family register p. 92, Erkenbrechtshausen. The register page behind the index S122. Ancestry's index of this entry reads the groom as "Georg Michael Julius", an index error. The mother's column names his stepmother; his birth register names his mother, Anna Maria Busch [S591]. Weak: the groom's trade word is abbreviated, and the entry has no running number.
  4. S1690Johann Friederich Lösch and Maria Dorothea Wolf — banns entry, Crailsheim, Advent 1799. Evangelische Kirche Crailsheim, Bd. 17, Eheregister pp. 228–229, 1799 no. 10; Landeskirchliches Archiv Stuttgart, through Ancestry collection 61023, record 17025313, image 1858928-00512. Read from the register image, 11 October 2026. Confirmed for the couple, his trade and her father's name. "H. In English: Mr Johann Friederich Lösch, newly admitted citizen here and licensed gun and bell founder, unmarried son of the late Mr [Johann Ernst?] Lösch, senator here, [adjunct?] of the town treasury and master of works; with Miss Maria Dorothea Wolf, unmarried daughter of the late Mr Christian Friederich Wolf, formerly [forester?] to the Prince of Hohenlohe-Kirchberg at [unread]. Banns on the 27th Sunday after Trinity and the 1st and 2nd Sundays of Advent 1799. A margin note beginning "Cop. zu" shows the wedding was held in another parish; its name is not read. Probable only: the given names of the groom's father. Not read: the office and place of the bride's father.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
