3 of the record's sources are cited here. The numbering is the record's own; the full list, with where else each is cited, is at Sources.

  1. S6221870 U.S. census — Gloucester City, Camden County, New Jersey, p. 80. Ancestry record 27598472. Image examined, read 25 September 2026. Confirmed Dwelling 579: Joseph K. Frazer, 43, ship carpenter; Georgianna, 39; Emma B., 17; Benj. H., 8; James Harris, 73; and Rachel Harris; all born New Jersey. Relationships are not stated.
  2. S6531860 U.S. census — Upper Alloways Creek, Salem County, New Jersey. Ancestry record 55046896. Image examined, read 25 September 2026. Confirmed Dwelling 302: James Harris, 63, labourer, and Rachel Harris. Birthplaces left blank. The index reads the township as Alloway; the page says Upper Alloways Creek.
  3. S11671850 U.S. census, Upper Alloways Creek Township, Salem County, New Jersey, p. 44 (stamped 332), dwelling 347, family 348, lines 15–18 (12 August 1850). Ancestry record 4604617. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 25 September 2026. Confirmed James Harris, 53, male, labourer, born New Jersey; Rachel Harris, 39, born New Jersey; Charlotte E. Harris, 10, at school; Benjamin Harris, 16; all born New Jersey. No real estate entered. The 1850 census states no relationships. The first digit of James’s age is overwritten; 53 is the likeliest reading and fits his 63 in 1860 (S653) and 73 in 1870 (S622). Rachel’s 39 puts her birth about 1811, which is hard to square with Rebecca Anna’s birth about 1823: either Rebecca was born later or Rachel was a second wife. This record does not settle it.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
