The record in detail

Deceased ancestors are given in full — this is ordinary published genealogy drawn from records that are already public. Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only — Earl's instruction of 3 October 2026: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person's own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only: no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies — an unknown age is resolved protectively, not conveniently.

Life

Census1880
What is missing: his wife’s name (the 1880 census says only that she was born in Ohio), his birth and death, and any census household of his own. The spelling Heron on his daughter’s card is from her son’s 1921 marriage-licence application; the 1847 papers write Hearn

Open questions

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → He was probably born in North Carolina: the 1880 census gives that as the birthplace of the father of Stephen’s wife Jane, 50 S1149. What is weak or missing: this rests on Martha Jane and Jane being one woman, which the record treats as likely, not settled; and a census birthplace for a parent is second-hand. Know more? Research status

Research status: PROBABLE as the mother of Ingebjørg Ormsdatter, on the Røldal burial register for 1823 and the Præstegaarden farm match, and on the 1801 census, which enters her, 62, with Orm Olsen as the parents of the head of Præstegaarden, whose sister was Ingebor Ormsdatter, 16 S1286.
Show detailsHide details

Evidence: A burial entry at Røldal in 1823 for Guri Anfinsdatter of Præstegaarden, the farm of Orm Olsen and of Ingebjørg Ormsdatter; the 1801 census (S1286) enters Orm Olsen, 69, and Guri Anfinsdatter, 62, as the parents of the head of Præstegaarden, with Ingebor Ormsdatter, 16, as his sister. Weak or missing: The 1801 census is filed under Suldal, so that its Præstegaarden is the Røldal farm of her burial rests on the names and Ingebjørg's age agreeing; it makes Ingebjørg her daughter only through the head's sister, and Guri was about 46 at her birth, so a half-sister through an earlier wife of Orm is not ruled out. Buried at Røldal in 1823, of Præstegaarden, by the burial register
Census1801
In the 1801 census, filed under Suldal, Orm Olsen, 69 (born about 1732), and Guri Anfinsdatter, 62 (born about 1739), are entered as “husbondens forældre”, the parents of the head, Ole Ormsen, 39, living retired on Præstegaarden; Ingebor Ormsdatter, 16, and a second Ole Ormsen, 22, are entered as his unmarried brother and sister S1286. What is weak or missing: that this Præstegaarden is the Røldal farm of the burials rests on the names and Ingebjørg’s age agreeing, and Guri was about 46 at Ingebjørg’s birth, so a half-sister through an earlier wife of Orm is not ruled out. Research status

Research status: PROBABLE as the father of Ingebjørg Ormsdatter, on the Røldal burial register for 1830 and the Præstegaarden farm/patronymic match, and on the 1801 census, which enters him, 69, with Guri Anfinsdatter as the parents of the head of Præstegaarden, whose sister was Ingebor Ormsdatter, 16 S1286.
Show detailsHide details

Evidence: The patronymic Ormsdatter carried by his presumed daughter Ingebjørg, of the Præstegaarden farm, a burial entry at Røldal in 1830 for an Orm Olsen of Præstegaarden, and the 1801 census (S1286), which enters Orm Olsen, 69, and Guri Anfinsdatter, 62, as the parents of the head of Præstegaarden, with Ingebor Ormsdatter, 16, as his sister. Weak or missing: No record names Orm Olsen as Ingebjørg's father in so many words; the 1801 census makes her the head's sister and Orm the head's father, and it is filed under Suldal, so that its Præstegaarden is the Røldal farm of the burials rests on the names and her age agreeing. Family

Marriage
Husband of Guri (Guro) Anfinsdatter, of Præstegaarden, Røldal. Father of Ingebjørg Ormsdatter

Open questions

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → His son Ole Ormsen, probably the second Ole Ormsen, 22, of the 1801 household, was a widower of 64 at Søndenaasen when he married the widow Maritha Olsdatter of Hagen on 8 June 1845; the Sauda register names his father as Orm Olsen. Weak: the register is Sauda, not Røldal, no farm is given for Orm, and the patronymic is common. Know more? Use “Add to this record” S1514

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
