The record in detail

Deceased ancestors are given in full — this is ordinary published genealogy drawn from records that are already public. Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only — Earl's instruction of 3 October 2026: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person's own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only: no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies — an unknown age is resolved protectively, not conveniently.

Life

Birth1832
Born October 1832, Alabama
Death1901
Died at Lockhart, Caldwell County, Texas, on 30 November or 1 December 1901. His widow’s pension application of 1914 gives 30 November 1901, a Saturday, with the county written over S481. A newspaper death notice headed Lockhart, Texas, December 1901, says Mr. H. V. Caffey “had just moved to Lockhart from Red Rock, Bastrop county, was stricken Saturday with paralysis of the brain and died on Sunday morning”, which would be 1 December. The clipping is in Documents below; the newspaper is not named on it. The two differ by a day and neither is chosen.
Census1850
In 1850, aged 17, he was living in the Montgomery County, Alabama household of Charles Caffey, 61, and Nancy, 59: co-residence, not proof of parentage, but the first record for that link S484. He had a first wife, probably Amy Richardson: his son C. B. Caffey's death certificate names her S478, and in 1880 his older children, John W., Cordelia D. P., Charles B. and the widowed Fanny E. Willson, have an Alabama-born mother S479. The Pike County register confirms his marriage to Amanda M. Griffin on 1 May 1870 S482. He served in the 10th Alabama Infantry, held Texas Confederate pension no. 204, and died on 30 November 1901 S481.
Census1880
The 1880 agricultural schedule for Bastrop County shows him owning his farm: 55 acres tilled and 74 wooded, worth $700, with $1,300 of produce in 1879 S616.
Record1857
The original Autauga County register has now been read. It records the licence of Hooper V. Coffey and Amy P. Richardson on 21 December 1857 and their marriage the next day, 22 December 1857, by R. B. Jones, M.G.; he signed the bond “H. V. Coffey” S646. The typed copy's “May P.” is a misreading of Amy P.
Census1860
In October 1860 H. V. Caffey, 28, had his own household in the 2nd District of Montgomery County, Alabama (P.O. Ramah), next door to Charles Caffey, 72, and Nancy, 60. With him were a wife, 26, born Alabama, Fanny, 2, and John, 6 months Confirmed S1151. The wife’s name reads Al…a (Alia or Alva?), not Amy or May, so her name is still open. If you can read it, use “Add to this record”.

The dated endings were taken off, and nothing else in the notes was changed. 13 Oct 2026 — the “Research status” line gave the day this card was added and entered in the family tree, 24 Sep 2026. The date was taken out of the sentence and stands here only; no fact or grade was changed. 13 Oct 2026 — the card gave no death. The place and the two dates are added from the 1914 pension application (S481) and from the newspaper death notice already in Documents on this card, read from the image; no grade was changed.

Open questions

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → His first marriage was probably to “May P. Richardson”, licensed in Autauga County, Alabama, on 21 December 1857 S555. Evidence: the name Hooper V. Coffey and a date that fits his eldest daughter's birth about 1858. The typed WPA copy and the name May were the weak points; the original register, now read, says Amy P. and gives the wedding as 22 December 1857 S646. What is still weak: the register gives no ages or birthplaces, so the match rests on the name H. V. Coffey and the dates. If you know more, use “Add to this record”. In 1870 he and his second wife Amanda were in Pike County with his four children S543.
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → His first wife was probably the Amy Richardson, 16, born Alabama, at Wetumpka, Autauga County, in 1850, in the household of Delila Richardson, 48, born Georgia, with William, Jesse M., Sarah A. and George Richardson. Her age fits the wife of 26 in 1860. Weak: the census states no relationships, and Delila as her mother is unproven. Know more? Use “Add to this record” S1483

Life

Birth1850
Born 1 April 1850, Georgia
Death1914
She was known as Mattie. As Mrs. Mattie Caffey she applied for a Confederate widow's pension in 1914, giving her age as 63 and her arrival in Texas as December 1872 S481. In 1900 she had borne 12 children, 7 living S483. Her daughter Anna Bell Gold (5 January 1871 – 5 May 1949) is buried in Kyle Cemetery S480.
Census1920
In 1920 she was 68 and widowed, living in Bell County with A. C. Caffey, 25, who lists her as “Mattie, mother, 68”, his wife Lorena and their children S536.
Census1870
The 1870 census, taken 16 weeks after her marriage, has her at 20 in Pike County, Alabama, with Hooper (written “Henry V.”) and his four children S543.
Census1860
In 1860 Amanda M. Griffin, 10, born Georgia, was in Pike County, Alabama, in the household of Major Griffin, 56, a farmer born in North Carolina, and Matilda M., 34, born Georgia, with five other children S629. Probable confirm or correct → Major and Matilda M. are probably her parents: her name, age, birthplace and county all fit. But the census does not state relationships, and no record read so far names her parents.
Census1880
In 1880 Sarah Griffin, 55, was a widow in Macon, Georgia, with three of her children, Irvin H., Mary Ann and Emma (later Mrs Emma Barnhart), and two grandchildren Confirmed S796. Henry Griffin had died before June 1880.
Death1850
The boy Micajah B. of the 1850 household is probably the M. B. Griffin who died at Marshall, Texas, on 7 February 1936 Probable confirm or correct → S797. Evidence: his certificate gives his birth in Washington County, Georgia, and his father as Henry Griffin, his mother as “Ella Boatwright” (image re-read 27 September 2026), the first record to put the Boatwright name on one of Henry Griffin's children. What is weak: the informant, W. H. Griffin, was a generation removed; “Ella” is not the Sarah of the 1844 marriage and three censuses, so Sarah stands; and its birth date, 8 November 1841, falls before that marriage and does not fit his age of 4 in 1850, so about 1845–46 is preferred.
Record1867
A white Henry Griffin registered to vote in Washington County, Georgia, on 19 July 1867 Probable confirm or correct → S804. Evidence: it is the county of the 1844 marriage and the 1850 household. What is weak: the return gives no age or family, and Henry Griffin is a common name.
Record
Child: James Clinton Caffey, Confirmed on his own card
Census1870
In 1870 Henry Griffin, 45, born Georgia, a farm labourer who could not read or write, was living near Milledgeville, Baldwin County, Georgia, with Sarah Ann, 46, and Mary Ann, 18, Irwin, 14, Emily, 12, and Ella, 10 S1459. That fills the gap between his 1867 voter registration and Sarah’s widowhood by 1880; it does not settle whether Amanda was their daughter.

A second candidate household was added on 26 Sep 2026, two records of that couple on 27 Sep 2026 and a child link on 4 Oct 2026; those three marks and their dates were taken off the notes on 12 Oct 2026, with no grade changed. 13 Oct 2026

Children1870

Open questions

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → A second candidate household. In 1850, Amanda M. Griffin, 4 months old, was in Washington County, Georgia, with Henry Griffin, 24, a farmer, and Sarah, 26, and two small boys, Micajah B. and Augustus, all born in Georgia S662. Evidence: her name and an age that fits her April 1850 birth in Georgia; an online family tree makes Henry and Sarah her parents. What is weak: the 1850 census names no relationships. Sarah's maiden name is on two originals: Henry Griffin married Sarah Boatwright in Washington County on 26 December 1844 S794, and the 1930 death certificate of Mrs Emma Barnhart, born about 1861, names her parents as Henry Griffin and Sarah Boatwright S795. Neither record names Amanda, so they prove the couple, not that she is their daughter; and the 1860 household above, Major and Matilda M., is not ruled out. Henry and Sarah may be her parents and the 1860 home a relative's, or the reverse. If you know more, use “Add to this record”.
Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: a Sarah Griffin, 56, died at Savannah on 30 November 1881 (Ancestry record 109652). Her age fits Amanda’s mother Sarah, but Sarah was in Macon in 1880 and the page gives no residence or kin, so it is not taken as her death. What would settle it: the preceding page (nativity), a burial or a newspaper notice.

Birth1864
Born 19 October 1864, Alabama; her father Robert Higginbotham (written “Higginbothan”), her mother's maiden name Avery S331
Death1953
Died 3 January 1953 at Lolita, Jackson County, Texas, widowed, as Nancy Jane Walker S331
Cause1952

Death1953
Her obituary (Edna Herald, 8 January 1953) adds: she came to Texas at 19 and settled first at Waco before marrying; she was a charter member of the Lolita Baptist Church; burial Lolita Cemetery, confirming the death certificate. Survivors named: sons R. T. Walker and D. J. (Daniel Jonah) Walker, both of Lolita; daughters Mrs. M. E. (Naomi) Rogers (Palacios), Mrs. Ruth Moody (Lolita), Mrs. Willie Petrich (Lake Jackson)
her children by William Bernard Walker, and Daniel Jonah's siblings S1305. Six grandchildren served as pallbearers, including Olen Walker. The Jackson County cemetery index confirms her burial at Lolita Cemetery, along with Daniel Jonah, his second wife Ida S. Walker, Manila Walker, and Robert T. Walker Jr. — William Bernard Walker is not listed there S1314.
Census1870
The 1870 census image, read in full: in Township 19 (Rockdale Beat), Randolph County, Alabama, on 10 June 1870, Nancy, 6, born Alabama, was in the household of Lucinda Higginbotham, 40, born South Carolina, with Alexander, 13, and Benjamin, 12 Confirmed S960. That census states no relationships. Her mother is named by the 1880 census S812.

one note ended “Added 27 September 2026; upgraded to Confirmed and full name added 5 October 2026.” Those two dates now stand here only; the note is otherwise unchanged.

Family

Parents1880
Her mother: in the 1880 census of Rockdale Beat, Randolph County, Alabama, “N. J.”, 15, born in Alabama, is listed as the daughter of the widowed head, L. Higginbotham, about 50, born in South Carolina S812. With the certificate's maiden name Avery, that makes her mother L. (Avery) Higginbotham. Her given name, Lucinda C., comes from FamilySearch indexes of the 1870 and 1860 Randolph County censuses, which are independent of the 1880 page and the certificate S841S842: her mother is Lucinda C. (Avery) Higginbotham Confirmed. The 1860 and 1870 entries are index rows whose images have not been read, and the 1860 index gives Lucinda's husband as Wm H. Higginbotham, while Nancy Jane's certificate names her father Robert, so her father is not settled.
Children1950
Mother of Daniel Jonah Walker: in 1950 at Lolita, Jackson County, Texas, she lived in D. J. Walker's household as his mother, 85, widowed, born Alabama S210
Marriage1857
Her husband was William Bernard “Willie B.” Walker (1857–1914) Confirmed. Evidence: in 1900 “Nancy J.”, 35, born Alabama, was his wife in Jackson County S808, his 1914 death certificate was informed by Mrs. W. B. Walker S787, and her own 1953 obituary names him directly: she “later married William Bernard Walker” at Waco; “he died in June, 1914”, matching his death certificate date of 27 June 1914 S1305. His parents were probably Daniel Green Walker and Mary Jane Bross.
Children1903
Her daughter Willie Easter (Walker) Petrich was born on 3 April 1903 and died at Wharton on 30 April 1975, living at Stafford; she is buried at Edna Cemetery. Her death certificate names her parents as W. B. Walker and Nancy Jane Higginbotham S1411
Children1898
Her daughter Ruth (Walker) Moody Thedford was born on 22 April 1898 and died a widow at Ganado on 26 November 1981, living at Lolita; she is buried at Memory Gardens of Edna. Her death certificate names her parents as William B. Walker and Nancy Jane Higginbotham S1412
Children1886
Her daughter Naomi Elizabeth (Walker) Rogers was born on 22 October 1886 and married Milton E. Rogers Jr. about 1907; they farmed at Redbluff Colony, Jackson County, in 1910 with sons Truett M. and Joe L., then lived in Matagorda County, where Milton kept a grocery at Palacios by 1930 S1416 S1417 S1418 S1419 S1420
Children1930
Her daughter Willie E. (Walker) Petrich lived at Schulenburg, Fayette County, in 1930 and at Hobbs, New Mexico, in 1950 S1422 S1423
Children1940
Her daughter Ruth (Walker) Moody was farming in Jackson County in 1940 with her husband W. C. Moody, born Mississippi, and two sons S1424
Children1888
Her son Robert Thomas “R. T.” Walker was born on 11 April 1888, served as a private in Company B, 315th Engineers, in 1918–19, married Manila C. Amos at China Spring, McLennan County, on 20 July 1922, carried the rural mail at Lolita, and died on 20 December 1965; he is buried at Lolita Cemetery S1425 S1426 S1427 S1428
Children1917
Her son R. T. Walker was born at China Spring, McLennan County. In 1917 he was single and a partner in the Court House Garage at Waco; in 1942 he was a rural mail carrier at Lolita; at his death in 1965 he was a real-estate broker. His death certificate names his parents as Will Walker and Nancy Jane Higginbotham S1433 S1434 S1435
Children1940
Her daughter Willie Petrich was living at La Ward, Jackson County, in 1940 with her husband, an electrician on R.E.A. lines, and a son S1437
Children
Her daughter Willie’s husband was William Leo Petrich, an electrician born at Edna, Texas. Her son’s birth certificate gives her own maiden name as Willie E. Walker, born at Lolita, and names the son William L. Petrich Jr. S1479; the Texas birth index names a daughter, Dorothy Jane Petrich, with both parents in full S1480. The two children are named only: the son may be living, and the daughter probably died young, but that is not proved
Children1920
Her daughter Ruth’s full maiden name was Ruth Edna Walker. Her first husband was William Chalmers Moody, a farmer born in Mississippi, and their first child, Alvin Lee Moody, was born at Lolita on 18 November 1920; Ruth swore the corrected certificate herself in 1942 S1491
Parents
A later Texas birth certificate, of a daughter of Milton Rogers, a farmer, and Naomi Walker, records her as Naomi’s third child, with all three then living. The daughter is not named, and her date and place of birth are not given, because she may be living S1515
Marriage
A Texas birth certificate of her granddaughter Frances Manila Walker names the father as Robert Thomas Walker, of Lolita, a rural mail carrier born at China Springs, and gives his wife’s full maiden name as Manila Curry Amos, born at Heflin, Alabama. The daughter is named only, because she may be living S1537

Open questions

Probable
Probably her in 1930: Nancy J. “Waeker”, 65, a widow living alone in her own home ($1,250) in Justice Precinct 2, Jackson County, Texas Probable confirm or correct → S1011. Evidence: her age, her Alabama birthplace and her mother's South Carolina birthplace agree with the 1880 household S812, and Jackson County is where she lived in 1950 and her last years S331. Weak: the enumerator wrote the surname Waeker or Wacker, not Walker; her father's Georgia birthplace is new and is a clue only. Know more? Use “Add to this record”.

Marriage1896
First wife of Melton Cleaveland; married 4 February 1896, Belgrade, Nance County, Nebraska
Children1971
Mother of Nettie Ellen Cleveland, whose 1971 death certificate names her S145; she is the Nebraska-born first wife implied by the 1910 census, where Milton has remarried S224
Marriage1896
The Nance County marriage register names her father as Clifford Warner. She was 18 and born in Nebraska when she married Milton Cleavland at Belgrade on 4 February 1896 S463.
Parents1880
Her mother: Ella (Shreckengost) Warner Probable confirm or correct →. The 1880 census of Cedar Precinct, Boone County, Nebraska, has Maud, born in Nebraska, as the daughter of Clifford Warner, 28, whose wife is Ella, 22, born in Illinois S824; her sister Dessa's 1908 marriage gives their parents as Clifford Warner and Ella Shreckengost S682. What is weak: the census gives Ella's relationship to Clifford, not to Maud, and Maud's own marriage entry leaves her mother blank S463.

Open questions

Not found

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → Her mother’s parents were probably Henry Shreckengost and Mary Miller: an index of Ella’s 1910 marriage at Council Bluffs, Iowa, names the bride’s parents S1558. What is weak or missing: read from the index only, and it rests on Ella being Maud’s mother, which is itself Probable; the evidence is set out on Ella’s card. Know more? Use “Add to this record”.

Life

Birth1900
Born: the month is in dispute. The 1900 census, read from the image, gives her birth as April 1870 in Norway S1128, and the family book “Dad Called Me Bo” (2009) gives 22 April 1870 S1765. The Røldal baptism taken to be hers gives 22 January 1870, the date the family tree also carries without a source. Neither date is published here as fact. The register page was written at the time and is the stronger record of that child’s birth, but it is only probably Julia’s baptism, and both American sources say April. What would settle it: a Røldal baptism of another Gyri Lone born 22 April 1870, or Julia’s death certificate or gravestone. Died: not on any record read; the family tree's 27 November 1955 has no source and is not published here as fact
Census1903
FamilySearch also has Gertie's 1903 baptism in Deuel County with her mother as “Julie” S820, and the 1910 census index for Brandt, Deuel County, with Julia and Mons Selland and their daughter Selma S821
Census1920
The censuses of 1920 and 1930 give her arrival as 1889, the year Mons left Røldal, and in 1920 her naturalization as 1914 Confirmed S989S990. In 1930 she was 60 and had first married at 30 S990; in 1940 she was 70 S991; and she was living in April 1950, 80, on the Brandt Township farm with Mons and their son Oscar S992. Her ages across the censuses point to a birth about 1870. The children now known from the censuses are Ida C., Andrew, Selma (Gertie), Tilda, Oscar, George and Myrtle S989S952.

the 1899 marriage date and place and the name Gyri added from the family book “Dad Called Me Bo”, reported by LaVonne Danielson (S1765); the birth line rewritten to state that the 1900 census and the book say April 1870 and the Røldal baptism says 22 January. The caption of the 1870 baptism image reworded the same day: the image is the baptism of Gyri, and that she is Julia is Probable.

Family

Children
Mother of Gertie Selma Selland and of her brother Andreas Selland S813. Wife of Mons Selland
Names1870
Her maiden name, Lone Probable confirm or correct →: the South Dakota birth index on FamilySearch names Gertie's mother Julia Lone S819. What is weak: that is an index row; no register image read gives the name. A “Gyri …sdatter Lone”, born 1870, left Røldal in the same 1889 party as Mons, and no American record read shows that she is her; the family’s own book calls her “Julia (Gyri) Lone” S1765
Marriage1899
Married Mons Selland on 18 May 1899 at Madison, South Dakota (Lake County), according to the family book “Dad Called Me Bo” (2009), compiled by her grandson LaRoy Peters and his wife Adelaine and reported to this record by her great-granddaughter LaVonne Danielson Probable confirm or correct → S1765. Evidence: the 1900 census has the couple married one year S1128, the 1910 census eleven years S951, and in 1930 she gave her age at first marriage as 30 S990; she was 29 by this date. The book also says that she and Mons came to America in 1889, as the censuses do. Weak: a family compilation of 2009 that reaches us at second hand; no page of the book and no Lake County marriage record has been read. Know more? Use “Add to this record”.

Probable
Probable parents: Ole Nilsen Lone (b. 25 Apr 1826) and Sigrid (Siri) Larsdatter (b. 25 Sep 1836, Kvamen, Suldal) Probable confirm or correct →. The 1870 Røldal baptism register for Gyri, born 22 January 1870 at Lone
the same date the family tree gives for her (unsourced there) — names them as her parents. What is weak: no US record yet ties Julia by name to Røldal or to this baptism, and the 1900 census and the family book give her birth month as April, not January. Emigrated 1889 from Røldal, per the Røldal emigration register (patronymic struck through and rewritten on the page).

Birth1868
Born 9 May 1868 and baptised 21 June 1868 at Røldal, Hordaland, Norway, son of Thore Thoresen (Tore Toreson) Selland and Ingeborg Ivarsdatter, who now have cards of their own S74; entered in the Røldal out-migration register in 1889 as “Mons Thorsen Selland, 1868”, bound for “Dakota, Amerika” S75
Death1964
Died: not on any record read. The family tree's 10 November 1964 has no source and is not published here as fact
Record1903
FamilySearch agrees: the South Dakota birth index gives Gertie Selland, born 1 October 1903 in Deuel County, parents Mons Selland and Julia Lone S819; a Lutheran baptism index has Gerty Selma baptised 15 November 1903 in Deuel County, parents Mons and Julie Selland S820; and the 1910 census index for Brandt, Deuel County, has Selma in the household of Mons and Julia Selland S821
Census1910
The 1910 census at Brandt Township gives his immigration year 1889, the year of his Røldal out-migration entry, and shows him married 11 years, farming land he owned free of mortgage, with Julia and five children Confirmed S951. By 1920 there were two more children, George and Myrtle S952.
Census1920
The later censuses at Brandt Township: in 1920, 51, owning his farm with a mortgage, immigrated 1889, naturalized 1914, with Julia and their daughter Ida C., 19 Confirmed S989; in 1930, 61, first married at 32, with Julia, Oscar, George, Myrtle and the widowed Ida Gustavson and her three small daughters S990; in 1940, as Monse, 71, on a farm worth $800 with Oscar and George S991; and in April 1950, as Mons T., 82, still farming with Julia, 80, and Oscar, 41 S992.
Census1875
In the 1875 Norwegian census he is Mons Thorsen, born 1868, at home in Røldal with his parents Thore Thorsen and Engeborg Iversdatter, a brother Anders and two sisters named Engeborg Confirmed S1100
Census1900
In the 1900 census at Brandt Township he is 32, born May 1868 in Norway, married one year, immigrated 1889 and already naturalized, farming his own mortgaged farm, with Julia, 30, and their daughter Ida C., born April 1900 Confirmed S1128. The 1920 census’s naturalization year of 1914 does not fit this.

Weak: a family compilation of 2009 that reaches us at second hand; no page of the book and no Lake County marriage record has been read. Life

Birth1851
Born 21 June 1851, Germany (Texas death certificate no. 34138)
Death1946
Died 27 July 1946, Brackenridge Hospital, Austin (Texas death certificate no. 34138; informant his son Will). His ages in 1900 (48) and 1940 (88) agree with the certificate
Note
German-Texan line, Del Valle, Travis County, Texas S12
Census1900
In 1900, as Fritz, 48, immigrated 1883, with Lena and eight children including Willie S228; in 1940, aged 88 and widowed, in his son Max's household S230
Arrival1883
Arrived at Baltimore on 10 October 1883 on the steamship America from Bremen, as Franz Kretschman, 32, farmer, bound for Texas, with Lina and their three daughters S380.
Census1910
In 1910 he was enumerated as Frank Kredeschmar, 58, naturalized, farming his own land free of debt in Justice Precinct 6, Travis County, with his children Thera(?), Charlie, Minnie and Max. His wife was not in the house that day S433. In June 1919 his son Max W. Kretschmar, a private first class in the 250th Company Military Police, sailed home from Bordeaux on the Santa Rosa. The list named “Mr. Frank Kretschmar, father, R.F.D. #2, Delvale, Texas” as next of kin S434.
Death1946
His obituary in The Austin American of 28 July 1946 calls him Franz Kretschmar, 95, says he was born at Leipzig, Germany, and had farmed in the Del Valle area for more than sixty years S1633. Leipzig rests on the obituary alone; no German record has been read. It names three sons, Charley of Creedmoor, Will of Del Valle and Max of Austin, and four daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Rojas of Kingsville, Mrs. Clara Semff of Rio Vista, Mrs. Elsie Peterson of Del Valle and Mrs. Minnie Reininger of Austin, with 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. ⚠️ The obituary gives his birthday as 20 June and says he died on Friday night; the death certificate says 21 June and 27 July, and the certificate is kept. Buried at Salem Cemetery after a funeral at Cook Funeral Home on 29 July 1946 Probable confirm or correct →. Evidence: four Austin newspaper notices of 28–30 July 1946. Weak: no cemetery record or memorial has been checked, and the notices are read from the newspaper text, not the page images. Know more? Use “Add to this record”.

the 1946 obituary and burial notices were added (S1633); the “new” mark and the date were taken off that note on 12 Oct 2026. The difference between the obituary and the death certificate on his birthday and death day stays marked as an open conflict. 13 Oct 2026 — the Died line had said that an earlier version of this card gave 1868–1940, from a user tree; that sentence was moved here. The death certificate and his ages in 1900 (48) and 1940 (88) rule those years out. 13 Oct 2026 — 2 notes on this card ended with the words “added” and a date; they were added on: 24 Sep 2026 (1 note), 25 Sep 2026 (1 note). The dated endings were taken off, and nothing else in the notes was changed.

Open questions

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → His son Charlie F. Kretschmar, the “Charley of Creedmoor” of the obituary, was born 13 July 1886 in Texas and died 20 August 1967 at Temple, Bell County. Evidence: the index of Texas death certificate 49198 gives those dates, a home in Austin and his father as Frank Kretchmar S1646; Charlie is a son in the 1910 household S433 and in the obituary S1633. What is weak: the index shows no mother, so no record read names Lena Landrock as his mother; she is entered in the family tree as the best guess because she is his father’s only known wife. The certificate image would settle it. He now has a card of his own: Charlie F. Kretschmar. Know more? Use ‘Add to this record’.

Record1958
The Texas death index for 1958 lists him as Otto Ladusch, Travis County, 26 December, state file 72008 Confirmed S1005.
Death1958
Confirmed His death notice in the Austin American-Statesman (26 December 1958, p. 14) and his obituary in The Austin American (27 December 1958, p. 7): “Otto Ladusch, 85, of 4412 Avenue D”, died in a local hospital on Friday morning, 26 December 1958. He was retired and had been park foreman for the City of Austin for 20 years; a member of the Grand Order of the Sons of Hermann in the State of Texas, the Woodmen of the World and St. Martin’s Lutheran Church. Survivors as printed: two daughters, Mrs. Tom Wesson and Mrs. Will Kretschmer (so spelled); three grandchildren, great-grandchildren (the number is garbled in the page text and is not quoted here) and one great-great-grandchild. The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Sunday 28 December at the Cook Funeral Home chapel, with burial at Oakwood S1612. The notices name no parents, brothers or sisters, so his father stays Probable. His father: probably Traugott Ladusch Probable confirm or correct →. His own Social Security application, as indexed twice, names his father as Traugott Ladusch and gives his birth as 30 March 1873, the same day as his death certificate S851S325. What is weak: it is an index of one document, with no image read, and it conflicts with the certificate's “no record” and the Find a Grave child list above.
Parents1945
His mother: probably Johanna Sille (Selle) Probable confirm or correct →, named as Traugott Ladusek's wife on the 1945 death certificate of Pauline Wenzel, born in Germany in 1866 S850. What is weak: no document names Otto's mother; the Social Security index leaves her as “?” S851.

Life

Birth1875
Born 21 March 1875, Texas; her father Henry Stein S326
Census1900
In 1900 she had borne two children, both living: Frieda, 3 and Elizabeth, 2 S327; in 1910 at 1617 Willow Street, Austin, with Freda 13 and “Liccie” 11 S328
Death1952
Died 30 March 1952, Austin; buried Oakwood Cemetery. Her husband Otto was the informant S326
Census1880
In June 1880, aged 5, she was at home in Austin County as the daughter of Henry Stein, with her grandfather Dietrick Stein, 68, born Saxe-Weimar Confirmed S919.
Death1952
Confirmed Her death notices in The Austin American (31 March 1952, p. 3) and the Austin American-Statesman (31 March 1952, p. 5): “Mrs. Emma Stein Ladusch, of 4412 Avenue D”, a lifelong resident of Austin, died in a local hospital on Sunday 30 March 1952. She was a member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church and of Violet Lodge No. 26, the Sons of Hermann. Survivors as printed: her husband, Mr. Otto Ladusch; two daughters, Mrs. Tom Wesson and Mrs. Will Kretschmar, both of Austin; two sisters, Mrs. Will Frederick of Bartlett and Mrs. Adolph Kelm of Rosenberg; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Tuesday 1 April at Cook Funeral Home, with burial at Oakwood S1610. The notices name no parents; her father rests on the 1880 census and her death certificate. Read from the newspaper page text (OCR), not from the page image.
Death1886
Confirmed The sister her death notices call “Mrs. Adolph Kelm of Rosenberg” was Ottilie Annie (Stein) Kelm, born 27 November 1886 in Austin County, died 6 May 1966 at Richmond, Fort Bend County S1635. Ottilie Stein married Adolph Kelm in Colorado County on 6 December 1906, and the index of her death certificate names her father Henry Stein. That index gives Ottilie’s mother as “Mary Emmit”. This is a lead only for Emma: no record of Emma’s own that has been read names her mother, and whether the two were full or half sisters is not settled. Read from indexes, not the images. She has a card of her own: Ottilie Annie Stein Kelm.

Research status: CONFIRMED as Medie Owens's father. Her 1954 Texas death certificate names her father Charles Owens S70, and the 1900 census of Manor, Travis County, has Charles W. Owens and his wife Alice R. with a daughter born September 1887, the month and year of Medie's birth S661.
Show detailsHide details

Life

Birth1863
Born March 1863, Arkansas, by the 1900 census, which also gives both his parents as born in Arkansas S661. ⚠️ Medie's death certificate says born Texas, but its informant was the hospital, not the family, so the census is preferred S70. His own 1939 death certificate, informed by his wife, also says Arkansas, and gives his birth as 9 March 1863 S780; so does the 1910 census S783.
Death1939
Died 6 July 1939 at Austin, a produce salesman of 808 Clermont; buried at Youngs Prairie, Elgin Confirmed S780. On his FindAGrave memorial as Charles W. Owens (1863–1939) S34
Death1968
A second daughter's 1968 Texas death certificate also names her parents as Charles Owens and Alice Walden S811.
Census1880
In 1880, aged 17, he was in Williamson County, Texas, with his mother China Owen, 41, a widow born in Kentucky, and his brothers and sisters Wm. A. J., Joseph C., Alice, Levi A. and Edgar Confirmed S798. The census gives his father's birthplace as Tennessee.
Census1929
In the Austin city directory for 1929 he is Chas W. Owens, with Alice, a huckster at 1912 E. 2nd; in 1930–31 a peddler at 808 Clermont, the house he died in, with Wm (Katie) and Edw Owens at the same address Confirmed S807.
Death1939
His death notice in the Austin American-Statesman of 6 July 1939 says C. W. Owens, 76, died at the family home, 808 Clermont, early Thursday morning; the funeral was held from the home at 3 p.m. the same day, with burial at Youngs Prairie Confirmed S1634. It names his wife, Mrs. Alice Owens; four daughters, Mrs. J. W. Stobaugh and Mrs. J. C. Caffey of Austin, Mrs. Pearl Wearden of Floresville and Mrs. Theo. Culp of Elgin; three sons, Willie of Falls County and Ed and Robert of Austin; and 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Seven surviving children agrees with the “seven living” of the 1910 census S783. The notice does not pair the daughters’ first names with their husbands, and it does not name his parents. Read from the newspaper text, not the page image.
Record2026
History of this card. The notes on this card that carried a “new” mark were added on these days: 27 Sep 2026 (3 notes), 29 Sep 2026 (1 note), 10 Oct 2026 (1 note). The marks and their dates were taken off on 12 Oct 2026, and nothing in the notes was changed. The note on his parents was then rewritten as one statement: the certificate’s Arkansas birthplaces and the line that an Arkansas marriage would settle the question gave way to the 1880 census (S798) and the Whitley County marriage (S810), both already on the card; the Probable grade is unchanged. 13 Oct 2026
the words “added 26 September 2026” were taken off the end of two notes (his birthplace and date from the 1939 death certificate and the 1910 census, S780 and S783; the 1883 marriage, S782); nothing else in them was changed. 13 Oct 2026 — the “Research status” line ended “Confirmed 26 Sep 2026”. The date was taken out of the standing text and stands here only; no fact or grade was changed.

Family

Parents1880
His parents: Joseph Owens and China Parton Probable confirm or correct →. His death certificate names them as Joseph Owens and China Pardon and gives both as born in Arkansas S780; its informant was his widow, not a parent, and the spellings may be Chaney or Chana, Pardue or Purdon. The 1880 census names China as his mother, a widow born in Kentucky, and gives his father's birthplace as Tennessee S798; it was taken with her in the house, so on the birthplaces it outweighs the certificate. Their marriage is on record: Chiney Parton, 16, of Whitley County, Kentucky, married Joseph Owens there on 30 January 1852 (the register's year is only a ditto mark; a Tennessee index says 1853) S810. What is weak: Joseph is named as Charles's father only by the certificate. See Joseph Owens & China Parton.
Marriage1883
Married Alice Rachell Waldon on 7 October 1883 in Travis County; the licence was issued on 22 September Confirmed S782. In 1910 they were farming in Lampasas County, married 26 years, with ten children born and seven living S783
Marriage1900
A farm labourer at Manor in 1900, married 16 years, with seven children living: William W., Medie (written “Rachel A”), Epper L., Charles E., Mary P., Annie H. and Robert G. S661
Marriage1845
Husband of Alice Walden. The FamilySearch tree's dates for him, c.1845–1909, are wrong for this man and are no longer used S12

The death certificate says Tennessee, from hospital paperwork, and is the weaker of the two S70
Census1950
In 1950, as Allice Owens, 83, she lived with Medie at 2117 Clifton, Austin S231. FindAGrave gives her as Alice Rachael Waldon, 1867–1958 S34; Walden or Waldon is still unsettled

The funeral was on Saturday 9 August at 10 a.m. at Hyltin-Manor Funeral Home, with burial in Youngs Prairie Cemetery S1609. The address, the Friday and the cemetery agree with her death certificate. The notice names no parents. Read from the newspaper page text (OCR), not from the page image.

Family

Parents1870
Her father was Wm. Mathis Waldon, by her death certificate, informed by her daughter Medie S781. In 1870 Alice R., 3, was in the Dallas County household of William Waldon, 28, born Missouri, and Susan, 24, born Texas, with Joana Walden, 67, born Kentucky S801; Susan is her probable mother, Susan (Voshery) Waldon Probable confirm or correct →, but the census states no relationships and the certificate gives the mother as unknown. She died on 8 August 1958 at 804 South 1st, Austin, and was buried at Youngs Prairie S781.
Marriage1866
A Texas marriage index has Susan Voshery marrying William M. Walden on 23 December 1866 in San Augustine County, nine months before Alice was born S852 Probable confirm or correct →. It is an index only, and it supports Susan as her mother without naming Alice.
Marriage1883
Married C. W. Owens on 7 October 1883 in Travis County, as Alice Rachell Waldon Confirmed S782; by 1910 she had borne ten children, seven living, and the family was in Lampasas County S783.

Open questions

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → The five Waldon brothers and sisters of De Leon are probably her half-siblings, the children of her father Wm. Mathis Waldon by his second wife, who died at De Leon in 1934. None of them is on a card yet; their own death certificates would test it S1609.

Research status

Research status: CONFIRMED as the father of Orbin Oliver Piland Confirmed. The evidence is three newspaper notices: his wife’s obituary of 1927 names Orbin Piland of Pflugerville as her son and says she is survived by her husband S1574; Orbin’s own death notice of 1929 names “his father, E. R. Piland of Buda” S1572; and his own obituary of 1932 names the same daughters and sons, less Orbin, who had died S1575. His own parents, Reuben Piland and Mary Gibson, are still not proven (below). Earlier evidence, accepted by Earl 28 September 2026: the index of his son Orbin’s 1929 Texas death certificate names Orbin’s parents as E. R. Piland and Virginia F. Montgomery S911; the Texas marriage index has Edward Raymond Piland marrying Virginia Francis “Jennie” Montgomery in Gonzales County on 28 June 1883 S913; the family is in Gonzales County in the 1900 census S912.

Life

Census1880
In 1880 he is probably the Edward, 20, single, a farmer born in Texas, living in Gonzales County with his brother Thomas Piland, 24 S933 Probable confirm or correct →
Death1932
Died 2 July 1932 near Buda, Hays County, Texas, a widower, and buried in Live Oak Cemetery; born 12 January 1859 in Texas. His death certificate, read from the image, names his parents as Reuben Piland and Mary Gibson; the informant was his son Houston Confirmed S1024.
Census1910
In 1910 in Justice Precinct 4, Travis County: Edward R., 52, married 27 years, and Virginia F., 53, mother of 8 children, all living, with Craton, Myrtle, Rubin, Oliver O., 17, Edward R. Jr. and Carrol H. Confirmed S1025.
Record1932
The Texas death index lists Piland, Edward R., Hays County, died 2 July 1932, under file 30535, the number of his death certificate Confirmed S1032S1024.
Census1930
In April 1930 he was living as a widower, aged 71, in Justice Precinct 5, Hays County, in the farm household of John Howard and his wife Ida, 46, born in Texas, as John’s father-in-law Confirmed S1033. That makes Ida Howard his daughter, a sister of Orbin Oliver Piland, whose 1917 draft card has him farming at Buda for “Jno. Howard”. Two years later Edward died near Buda.
Death1932
His obituary in the Austin American-Statesman of 3 and 4 July 1932 says E. R. Piland, 73, died on Saturday at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Ida Howard, near Buda, a resident of Hays County since 1904; he was survived by two daughters, Mrs. Albert Nance of Austin and Mrs. Ida Howard of Buda, three sons, Craton, Reuben and Houston Piland of Austin, two brothers, Ben Piland of Grandview and Charles Piland of West, and one sister, Miss Bell Piland of Grandview; burial was in Live Oak Cemetery Confirmed S1575. The brothers and sister are new names: their death certificates may name the parents and so test Reuben Piland and Mary Gibson.

His daughter, the “Mrs. A. P. Nance” of his wife’s 1927 obituary, now has a card of her own: Myrtle Mae Piland Nance (1889–1942), wife of Albert Pate Nance. The index of Myrtle’s death certificate names her father as Edward Ray Piland Confirmed (index only) S1629.

Open questions

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: the death certificate and the 1900 census are read from their indexes only, not the images; the marriage licence gives only “E. R.”, so the names Edward Raymond come from the index. His 1932 death certificate gives his birth and death and names his parents as Reuben Piland and Mary Gibson S1024, but its informant was a son, so the parents are not yet proven: a Lamar County household of 1860 with a Thomas and an Edward, 1, is now published below as Probable, though its parents’ birthplaces disagree with the 1880 census
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → In September 1860 he was probably Edward, 1, born in Texas, in the household of Ruben Piland, 27, a farmer born in North Carolina, and Mary, 22, with Thomas, 5, and Jane, 4, at Beat 4, Lamar County, Texas (P.O. Paris): the Reuben and Mary his death certificate names as his parents, and the Thomas of 1880. Weak: no relationships are stated, and the parents’ birthplaces differ from 1880. Know more? Use “Add to this record” S1531
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → His parents were probably the Reuben Piland and Marietta Gibson who married on 9 August 1854 in Gonzales County, Texas S1584: the same names as the Reuben Piland and Mary Gibson of his death certificate, five years before his birth. What is weak or missing: the marriage is read from three index entries, not the register image; no record but his death certificate, whose informant was a son, names his parents. Know more? Use “Add to this record”
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → The two brothers and the sister of his 1932 obituary are probably the Ben F., born April 1871, Bell, born April 1873, and Charles, born December 1876, in the household of Ruben Piland, born September 1832 in North Carolina, and Mary E., born October 1836 in Illinois, in Justice Precinct 5, Gonzales County, in 1900, with a John, born 1875, and a Sam, born 1879 S1602. That would place Edward as an older son of the same Reuben and Mary. What is weak or missing: the census is read from an index, not the page; it states no tie to Edward, who had his own household by 1900; Mary E.’s Illinois birthplace is not yet matched to Mary Gibson; the 1870 household is not found. Their own death certificates should name their parents. Know more? Use “Add to this record”

Research status

Research status: CONFIRMED as the mother of Orbin Oliver Piland Confirmed. Her obituary of 26 September 1927 names “Orbin Piland of Pflugerville” among her five sons S1574, and it agrees in date, place and burial with her death certificate S1183. Her own mother is still Probable (below). Earlier evidence, accepted by Earl 28 September 2026: the index of her son Orbin’s 1929 Texas death certificate names his mother as Virginia F. Montgomery S911; the Texas marriage index has her marrying Edward Raymond Piland in Gonzales County on 28 June 1883 S913; the index of her own Texas death certificate gives her birth as August 1858 and her death in 1927 S915.

Life

Birth1858
Born August 1858; died 1927, by the index of her death certificate S915
Census1858
Three censuses of DeWitt County, Texas, the county next to Gonzales, all read from the images, show a Virginia Montgomery born in Texas about 1858–59, a twin of Harvey, in the household of James (P.) and Elenor F. Montgomery, both born Tennessee: “Virginia F.”, 2, in 1860 S1093; Virginia, 11, marked a twin in 1870 S1094; and Virginia, 21, daughter of James P., bracketed as twins with Harry Alex, in 1880 S1095. That makes James and Elenor her probable parents Probable (strong) confirm or correct →: the name, the initial F., the age and the county agree three times over twenty years, but no record yet names them as the parents of Jennie Piland in words
Death1927
Her death certificate, read from the image, names her father as James Montgomery Confirmed: Mrs. Virginia F. Piland died on 25 September 1927 near Buda, Hays County, born August 1858 in Texas; the informant, R. Piland of Austin, did not know her mother’s maiden name; she was buried at Live Oak Cemetery the next day S1183. So James P. Montgomery is her father, confirmed, and Elenor Frances Bradford, his wife in every census that holds Virginia, her probable mother
Record1858
Her twin, Harry Alexander Montgomery (1858–1931), now has a card of his own.
Death1927
Her obituary in The Austin American of 26 September 1927 says Mrs. E. R. Piland, aged 69, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Howard, near Buda on Sunday afternoon, after about 25 years at Buda; she was survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. John Howard of Buda and Mrs. A. P. Nance of Austin, and five sons, Orbin Piland of Pflugerville, Ray Piland of Round Rock, and Creighton, Houston and Reuben Piland of Austin, as well as four sisters and two brothers, who are not named; burial was in Live Oak Cemetery Confirmed S1574. A card of thanks a week later is signed “E. R. Piland and family”.

Siblings1868
A probable sister now has a card of her own: Margie Idella Montgomery Turner (1868–1959), the Idella of the 1870 and 1880 households.
Children1927
Her daughter, the “Mrs. A. P. Nance” of the 1927 obituary, now has a card of her own: Myrtle Mae Piland Nance (1889–1942), wife of Albert Pate Nance. The index of Myrtle’s death certificate names her mother as Francis Montgomery Confirmed (index only) S1629.

Research status

Research status: PROBABLE for his own dates, which rest on a Find a Grave memorial; his place as father of Mabel Logue Piland is graded separately and is Confirmed. Accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence, and added to the tree on his approval of 30 September 2026. Evidence: the index of his daughter Mabel’s death certificate names her father as D. C. Logue S907; the 1900 census of Waco, read from the image, has D. C. Logue, 42, with his wife Virginia A. and their daughter Mable, 4 S906; and the 1987 death certificate of his son Lee Marvin Logue names his father as Doctor Crutcher Logue and his mother as Virginia Alice S1301.
Show detailsHide details

Evidence: The index of his daughter Mabel's 1961 Texas death certificate names her father as D. C. Logue; in 1900 at Waco, read from the image, D. C. Logue, born November 1857, a grocery salesman, heads a household with his wife Virginia A. and their daughter Mable, 4; the Calhoun County, Alabama, marriage register, read from the image, has D. C. Logue marrying Virginia Alice Hamby on 2 April 1890; in 1910 at Cuero he is Dan C. Logue, 52, manager of a cotton mill, with Virginia and Mabel, 14, and in 1920 in Grayson County “Doctor C.” Logue, 60, born in Tennessee; a Find a Grave memorial gives his full name, Dan Crutcher Logue, and his dates, 24 November 1858 to 11 April 1939, buried at Sherman, Texas; the 1860, 1870 and 1880 Tennessee censuses, read from the images, have a Crutcher Logue aged 1, 12 (a mill spinner) and 21, in the households of H. D. and Mary A. Logue and then with a wife Jennie; the 1921 Sherman directory (S1300) has D. Crutcher Logue, assistant superintendent of the Diamond Mill Co., with Virginia A. and Marvin, and the 1987 death certificate of Lee Marvin Logue (S1301) names his father as Doctor Crutcher Logue. Weak or missing: The name Dan and his exact dates rest on Find a Grave alone, and nothing read yet ties the Tennessee Crutcher to the Waco D. C. Logue except name, age and mill work; the 1860 and 1870 censuses do not state relationships, so his parents are not proven; the 1880 wife Jennie, 19, cannot be Virginia, born 1867, and is not identified; and the 1900 census gives his birth as November 1857, a year earlier; his daughter’s death certificate is read from its index only; and the 1930 census calls his wife Virginia a widow, which sits against a death in 1939. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Life

Birth1858
Born 24 November 1858 and died 11 April 1939, buried in West Hill Cemetery, Sherman, Texas, by his Find a Grave memorial, which gives his full name and his wife as Virginia Alice Logue S909 Probable confirm or correct →. The 1900 census, read from the image, gives his birth as November 1857 S906; the 1910 census gives his age as 52 S1080 and the 1920 census as 60, born in Tennessee S1081
Census1900
In 1900 he was a grocery salesman at 1609 North 6th Street, Waco S906; in 1910 the manager of a cotton mill at Cuero, DeWitt County S1080; and in January 1920 in a cotton mill in Grayson County, owning his mortgaged home S1081. The 1920 enumerator wrote his name “Doctor C.”, an expansion of D. C.
Census1880
In June 1880, in the 7th Civil District of Giles County, Crutcher Logue, 21, a laborer, heads a household with his wife Jennie, 19, a weaver in a cotton factory; both are marked as married within the census year S1110. Jennie cannot be Virginia Alice Hamby, who was born in July 1867 S906 and married him in 1890 S908, so this looks like an earlier marriage; Jennie’s maiden name and what became of her are not found. Probable confirm or correct →

Family

Children1895
Father of Mabel Logue Piland (1895–1961), wife of Orbin Oliver Piland and mother of Alice Lorene, who married Thomas Osborn Caffey S907S906
Marriage1890
Husband of Virginia Alice Hamby, married 2 April 1890 in Calhoun County, Alabama, as D. C. Logue, by the Calhoun County marriage register, read from the image S908; the 1900 census has them married ten years S906
Children1892
Father of Leola Logue Piland (1892–1938): her Texas death certificate, read from the image, names her father as “D. C. Louge”, born in Tennessee S1113; Leola is in his household at Waco in 1900 S906 and, aged 17, at Cuero in 1910 S1080. She was born at Galveston in November 1892 S1113 Probable confirm or correct →
Children1902
Father of Victor Quillen Logue (born 1902): both of Victor’s Los Angeles marriage records name his father as D. C. Logue S1191 S1192
Children1905
Their son Lee Marvin Logue (1905–1987) now has a card of his own.
Children1900
Father of Halbert Logue, also written Hobart, born 6 February 1900 at Waco, who died at Los Angeles on 25 November 1966. The California Death Index gives that birth date and his mother’s maiden name as “Hambey”, his 1945 draft card says Waco, and in 1930 he shared a Los Angeles household with his brother Lee Marvin Logue S1581; the 1900 Waco census has Halbert, born February 1900, in this household S906. Added to the tree 8 October 2026. What is weak or missing: the California and draft entries are read from indexes, not images; no record names his father. He now has a card of his own. Know more? Open questions

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: the 1900, 1910 and 1920 censuses and the marriage are read from the images, but the name Dan and his exact dates rest on Find a Grave alone, a compiled memorial, not a record (the name Crutcher is now on the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses S1108S1109S1110, and on the Texas man himself in the 1921 Sherman directory, “D. Crutcher Logue” S1300, and on his son Lee Marvin’s 1987 death certificate, “Doctor Crutcher Logue” S1301; neither gives the name Dan or his dates), and the 1900 census gives November 1857, not 1858; in 1930 his wife Virginia is enumerated as a widow in her daughter’s household S924, which does not fit a death in 1939, so either the census or the memorial dates may be wrong, or the couple had separated. His parents are not proven; the 1860 and 1870 censuses point to H. D. and Mary A. Logue S1108S1109, and the 1920 census gives his birthplace as Tennessee S1081
Probable
Probably the son of H. D. and Mary A. Logue. In 1860 at McMinnville, Tennessee, Crutcher, 1, is in the household of H. D. Logue, 32, and Mary, 30, with Florance, Texas and Frank S1108; in 1870 at Pulaski, Giles County, Crutcher, 12, is a spinner in the household of Mary A. Logue, 38, a cloth trimmer, with the same Texas and Frank (now Franklin) S1109; and in 1880 in Giles County Mary Logue, 40, is a widow S1110. Probable confirm or correct → Evidence: the uncommon given name Crutcher, his age, Tennessee birth and cotton-mill work, which he kept up as a mill manager in 1910 and 1920. Weak: neither census states relationships, and nothing read yet ties the Tennessee boy to the D. C. Logue of Waco except name, age and trade
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → Two more records of their children name both parents. The Social Security file of Ethel Logue Lewis, born at Anniston, Alabama, on 1 January 1891, gives her father as Crutcher Logue and her mother as Virginia A. Hamby S1563; and the index of California county marriages has Lee Marvin Logue marrying Velma Lucille Woods at Los Angeles, the groom’s parents D C Logue and Virginia Alice “Hanby” S1564. With Leola’s and Lee Marvin’s death certificates, four of the children who shared the household with Mabel now have records naming these parents, which supports Mabel’s place among them. What is weak or missing: both are FamilySearch index entries and neither image has been read; the marriage index line gives no date; no record of Mabel’s own yet names her mother’s maiden name. Know more? Use “Add to this record”
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → A probable sister: Texas Ann Logue, born about 1854, who married Hubbard A. Hodge on 18 June 1881 in Giles County, Tennessee, died in 1899 and is buried at Anniston, Alabama S1585. A Texas Logue of that age is in the 1870 Pulaski household that is probably his, and his own daughter Ethel was born at Anniston in 1891. What is weak or missing: the marriage is read from an index, not the image; no record names her parents; his own parentage is still Probable, so she is not added to the tree as a person. Know more? Use “Add to this record”
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → In 1900 Hubbard A. Hodge was at Anniston with a wife Nancy E. and a daughter Nellie P., born in December 1892, and Texas Ann is not in the household S1600. That fits her death in 1899 and a second marriage for him. What is weak or missing: the census is read from an index, not the page, and her death date still rests on a grave index. Know more? Use “Add to this record”
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → A second probable sister: Eva Logue, born about 1861 at McMinnville, Tennessee, who married Julius Augustious James on 30 May 1882 in Calhoun County, Alabama S1599. An Eva Logue aged 9 is in the 1870 Pulaski household that is probably his; the family was at McMinnville in 1860; and he married in Calhoun County himself in 1890. A delayed birth record filed in Oregon for her son gives her birthplace as McMinnville; the son, Henry Augustious James, was born on 17 March 1891 at Anniston, Alabama, not in Oregon, and died on 3 June 1960 at Nampa, Idaho, and a daughter, Gertrude James Pudig, was born at Anniston on 1 May 1884; the records of both name their parents as Julius A. James and “Evie” Logue S1603. What is weak or missing: the marriage, the Oregon filing and the two children’s records are read from indexes, not the images; her own death has not been found; the marriage index spells her “Evy”; no record names her parents or calls her his sister; his own parentage is still Probable, so she is not added to the tree as a person. Research status

Research status: PROBABLE for her own dates (her death is not yet found); her place as Mabel’s mother is graded separately and is Confirmed. Accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence, and added to the tree on his approval of 30 September 2026. Her place as Mabel’s mother is read from the image of the 1930 census of Austin, where Virginia Logue, 62, widowed, born in Tennessee, is entered as the mother of the head, Mable Piland S924 Confirmed; her maiden name is read from the image of the Calhoun County marriage register S908.

Evidence: In 1930 at Austin, read from the image, Virginia Logue, 62, widowed, born in Tennessee, lives with her daughter Mable Piland as Mable's mother; in 1900 at Waco, read from the image, Virginia A., born July 1867 in Tennessee, is the wife of D. C. Logue with their daughter Mable, born October 1895; the Calhoun County, Alabama, marriage register, read from the image, records the marriage of D. C. Logue and Virginia Alice Hamby on 2 April 1890; in 1910 she is at Cuero with Dan C. Logue and Mabel, 14, and in 1920 in Grayson County with him; in April 1950, read from the image, Virginia Logue, 81, widowed, born in Tennessee, is at Howe, Grayson County, as the mother-in-law of Harry R. Lewis, whose wife Ethel was born in Alabama about 1891; the 1921 Sherman directory (S1300) has D. Crutcher and Virginia A. Logue at 214 Staples with Marvin, and the 1987 Washington death certificate of their son Lee Marvin Logue (S1301) names his parents as Doctor Crutcher Logue and Virginia Alice. Weak or missing: The Hamby family has not been researched, so her parents are not found; her death is not found, though the 1950 census shows her alive; the 1930 census calls her a widow, which does not fit the 1939 death Find a Grave gives her husband; no record read here names her daughter Ethel as a Logue. Life

Birth1867
Born July 1867 in Tennessee, by the 1900 census, read from the image, which gives her as Virginia A., married ten years, the mother of five children, four living S906; the 1930 census gives her age as 62 and her birthplace as Tennessee S924
Census1910
In 1910 she lived at Cuero, DeWitt County, Texas, with Dan C. Logue, 52, manager of a cotton mill; she was 41, born in Tennessee, married 21 years and the mother of seven children, six living, and Mabel, 14, was at home S1080. In January 1920 she was 51, in Grayson County, Texas, with her husband, entered as “Doctor C.” Logue, 60, of the cotton mill S1081.
Death1950
On 10 April 1950 she was living at Howe, Grayson County, Texas, as Virginia Logue, 81, widowed, born in Tennessee, the mother-in-law of the head, Harry R. Lewis, a cotton-mill oiler, in his house with his wife Ethel, 59, born in Alabama, and their son James, 39 Confirmed S1101. That makes Ethel her daughter, born about 1891 in Alabama, the year after the Calhoun County marriage Probable confirm or correct →. No record read here gives Ethel’s maiden name or birth record, and Virginia’s death is still not found

Open questions

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: the marriage and the 1900 and 1950 censuses are read from the images; the 1950 census shows her alive at 81, so she died after April 1950; the Hamby family has not been researched; the 1930 census calls her a widow, which does not fit the 1939 death Find a Grave gives her husband; her death and her parents are not found
The obituary gives his birth as 24 December 1867; this card keeps the certificate’s 28 December 1866. Open questions

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: his death certificate names only his father, and the father’s birthplace line is partly cut off; his mother is presumed to be Elenor from the 1880 household but is not named on any record of his own. The 1870 household has a La Fayette, 4, and no James, so whether “L.” stands for Lafayette is an open question S1094
Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: no marriage record has been read, so “about 1886” comes from the 1900 census; Rue’s birth is Aug 1897 in the census and 14 Aug 1896 on her death certificate. Know more? Use “Add to this record”
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → In 1930 a J. L. Montgomery, 63, divorced, born in Texas to a Tennessee-born father and first married at 19, was a roomer in San Antonio making chicken medicine S1227. What is weak or missing: the page names no kin, so this rests on name, age and birthplaces. Know more? Use “Add to this record”
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → His wife now has a card of her own: Elizabeth Billings. The two accounts of 1932 disagree: the San Antonio Express of 10 February 1932 says he was “survived by his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Montgomery of Westhoff” S1670, and his death certificate says “divorced” S1199. What is weak: no marriage or divorce record has been read, so whether they were legally divorced is open

Open questions

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: his birth and death are known from a death index only, his certificate image is not yet read, and his marriage is known from an index only (below). Know more? Use “Add to this record”.
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → Probably the “Lennard” Piland, 16, born in Texas, in the 1880 household of Reuben Piland, a farmer born in North Carolina, and Mary E. in Gonzales County S1267. What is weak or missing: the page has no “Alex”, and no record yet ties this Lennard to Lula Gay or names his parents, so Reuben and Mary E. are not entered as his parents. Know more? Use “Add to this record”
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → His son Alex Charles Piland’s 1953 death certificate gives his birthplace as Lamar County, Texas, the county of the 1860 Reuben Piland household on Edward Raymond Piland’s card. Weak: the informant, a daughter-in-law, reported it second-hand, and the probable 1880 household was in Gonzales County. Know more? Use “Add to this record” S1535
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → Probably the Leonard E. Piland who married Miss Lula G. Montgomery in DeWitt County on 3 June 1886 S1578. What is weak or missing: it is read from two indexes, not the register; the index says Leonard E., as the 1920 census does, and not Alex Leonard; it gives no ages or parents. Know more? Use “Add to this record”
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → Probably died on 24 December 1929 at Buda, Hays County: the index of a Texas death record has A. L. Piland, born 18 February 1862 in Texas, with a father “R. Piland” S1580. The initial fits Reuben Piland of the 1880 household above, the father named on the death record of Edward Raymond Piland; if so, the sisters Lula Gay and Virginia Francis Montgomery married brothers. What is weak or missing: it is read from the index, not the certificate; the record says A. L., gives the father only as R., and names no mother, so no parents are entered for him; his birth year is 1862 here, 1863 in the 1910 census and 1864 in 1880. Know more? Use “Add to this record”

The San Antonio Light of 6 and 8 February 1924 reported that she died at 4:45 p.m. on 5 February at 320 Devine Street, aged 49, having moved to San Antonio from San Marcos about a month before; her body was sent to Cuero for burial. The notices name as survivors her son M. B. Bruce, her daughters Misses Alma and Lena May Bruce of San Antonio, Mrs. F. Bernard of Houston (probably her daughter Mary Bessie Bruce Barnard) and Mrs. F. C. Morris of San Marcos, and her brothers Harvey Montgomery of Pilgrim and J. L. Montgomery of Austin. The day, the address and the burial agree with her death certificate and the city directory. The notices were read as machine text on 4 October 2026; the page images have not been opened S1730

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: her death certificate names her father as J. M. rather than James P. Montgomery; the 1880 census and her parents' Tennessee births tie it together. Know more? Use “Add to this record”.
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → Her son Millard B. Bruce, 31, a mechanic of San Antonio, married Dorothy Phillips at Villa Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, on 26 September 1930. Weak: the parents come from the index only; the second page of the act was not read. Know more? Use “Add to this record” S1512

What is weak or missing: the death record is read from FamilySearch’s index only, not the image, and its informant is unknown; it calls her father James L., not James P., and her mother Mary Ellen, not Ellen or Elenor; her age at death gives a birth about 1865, the 1870 census about 1864 and the 1880 census about 1866; no marriage record has been found, and her husband, probably Green Baker, is known only from the index of a son’s death record, so he is not named as a fact here. Birth1868
Born at Gonzales, Texas, on 15 March 1868; died at Austin, Travis County, on 10 January 1959. The day, the month and both places are from the death index, and the year 1868 from a grave index S1583
Burial1959
The Austin American-Statesman of 10 and 12 January 1959, read from the newspaper text, reports Mrs. Margie Idella Turner, 90, of Austin, buried in Oakwood Cemetery S1583
Death1869
Confirmed Her husband was Robert Henry Turner, born about 1869 or 1870 in Texas. The Texas death certificate of their son William, read from the image, names his father as Robert H. Turner and his mother as Della Montgomery S1708, and that of their son Morris, read from the image, names his father as Robert Turner and leaves the mother unrecorded S1709. In 1910 and 1920 a Robert H. Turner heads a Travis County household with a wife Della, born about 1869, and a son Morris, born 1901; in 1930 Idella Turner, born about 1871, is in Morris Turner’s household at Austin S1601. The 1910 household also lists William C. (1893), Joseph H. (1895), Ora L. (1905) and Inez (1908). The index of the 1971 Texas death record of their son Robert Walter Turner names his parents as Robert Henry Turner and Della Montgomery S1703. What is weak or missing: no marriage record has been found; the three censuses and the 1971 death record are read from indexes, not the pages; the middle name Henry rests on the 1971 index alone, and the sons’ certificates were filled in by relatives long after the marriage; he is not in the 1930 household and his death is not yet read. He is on the family tree as her husband. Know more? Use “Add to this record”

her husband, given until now as Robert H. (1900–1977) and William C. Turner (1892–1981) added from their obituaries and death indexes (S1703–S1706); William is Probable. 11 Oct 2026 — her daughter Viola Inez Turner (1907–1965), until now only “Mrs. George B. Davis” in her brother’s obituary, added from her own obituary and death index (S1707). 11 Oct 2026 — William C. Turner raised from Probable to Confirmed, and his given name Chester added, on his 1981 death certificate, read from the image (S1708); Morris S. Turner’s birth, until now given as June 1900, set to 13 June 1900 from his 1977 certificate image (S1709); her husband Robert Henry Turner raised from Probable to Confirmed, being named as the father on both certificates. 13 Oct 2026 — one note on this card ended with the words “added” and a date; it was added on: 8 Oct 2026 (1 note). Family

Children1894
Her son Joseph Harold Turner was born in DeWitt County on 6 July 1894, kept a grocery at Bishop, Nueces County, died at Austin on 31 August 1965 and is buried at Bishop Confirmed S1702. Her own death notice of 1959 names him as a son, of Bishop, and his two obituaries name the same brothers, Walter, William and Morris, and the sister Mrs. George B. Davis, who is her daughter Viola Inez, below. He is the Joseph H. of the 1910 household.
Children1890
Three more sons. Robert Walter Turner, born in Bee County on 17 December 1890, a farmer and stockman, died at Austin on 18 January 1971 and is buried at Oakwood Confirmed S1703S1704. Morris S. Turner, born on 13 June 1900, kept a grocery at Marlin and died there on 21 October 1977, at the Elmwood Nursing Home, and is buried in Calvary Cemetery, Marlin Confirmed S1705S1709; he is the Morris of the 1910 to 1930 households. Her 1959 notice names both. William C. Turner of Round Rock, in full William Chester, a farmer, born 26 September 1892, died 20 October 1981 at Brackenridge Hospital, Austin, and was buried in Capital Memorial Park on 23 October Confirmed S1708S1706. His death certificate, read from the image, names his father as Robert H. Turner and his mother as Della Montgomery; he is the William C. of the 1910 household and the brother William of the obituaries. An index entry at Find a Grave, not opened, gives the cemetery under its present name, Cook-Walden Capital Parks, Pflugerville. What is weak or missing: Robert Walter’s certificate is still read from its index only; William’s parents were reported by a relative 89 years after his birth, and no birth record has been found for any of the three; Morris’s certificate leaves his mother unrecorded, and Find a Grave gives his birth as 3 June against the 13 June of the certificate and the Social Security index. Children1907
Her daughter Viola Inez Turner, born at Gonzales on 23 July 1907, died at Austin on 29 August 1965 and was buried the next day at Oakwood, her mother’s cemetery Confirmed S1707. She was Mrs. George B. Davis. Her obituary names four brothers, Walter, William, Joe and Morris Turner, and her brother Joseph’s obituaries, two days later, name her as his sister S1702. She is the Inez of the 1910 household. What is weak or missing: her death record is read from its index only, and the index names no parents, so her place in this family rests on the two sets of obituaries; the obituary gives her age as 57 and the index’s birth date makes her 58. The four sons and this daughter are on the family tree as her children. Know more? Use “Add to this record”

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: the death record is read from FamilySearch’s index only, not the certificate image; the index names no mother, so Elenor rests on the two census households; the year 1868 comes from a grave index, and the censuses give a birth about 1869; no marriage record has been found; her husband is named as the father on the death certificates of two of her sons, read from the images, and one of them gives the mother’s maiden name as Della Montgomery, so he is given below as Confirmed. Nothing read yet ties the Idella of the DeWitt County household to the Mrs. Turner who died at Austin except the father’s name in that index. Reading the 1959 certificate would settle it. Know more? Open questions

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: the death record is read from FamilySearch’s index only, not the image, and its informant is unknown; it gives her father’s initials as J. M., not James P.; the two censuses that were read from the images place her in the household but, like every census before 1880, state no relationship; her middle initial in 1860 is read as C. in one reading and E. in another. Her husband’s name is unsettled: the death index has Jno. F. Henry, and an undated marriage index has William P. Henry and Miss Eveline Montgomery, so he is not named as a fact here. Reading the 1931 certificate from the image would settle the first three points. Know more? Use “Add to this record” to confirm or correct this →

Death1920
He died at his home in Cuero on the afternoon of Sunday 29 August 1920, “aged 56 years and 17 days” Confirmed S1716. The probate minutes give the same day of death, and his brother T. E. Bruce witnessed the will S1363
Census2026

Later the same day, 12 Oct 2026 — his daughter Mary Bessie now has a card and is linked, as Probable (S1758); the card listed her among the children without cards. Later the same day, 12 Oct 2026 — his daughter’s 1942 obituary added as a third record of his work as a rural mail carrier (S1758); the two census pages already gave it. Family

Marriage1891
Husband of Ida Alice Montgomery Bruce, whom he married in DeWitt County on 18 November 1891 by a marriage index; the 1900 census has them married eight years S1357
Children1894
Father of Dora Inez Bruce (born August 1894), the second child in his house in 1900 and 1910 S1357 S1358. Alma, of the 1910 page, is probably Alma Kathryn Bruce Gordon (1906–1982) S1752. Mary, the eldest child on both pages, is probably Mary Bessie Bruce Barnard (1894–1942) S1758. The other children of those two census pages, Orie, Millard and Lena May, do not have cards.

Open questions

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → He was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Cuero, on Monday 30 August 1920, the day after he died; the Methodist pastor, the Rev. M. H. Keen, took the service. The evidence is strong: the death notice in the San Antonio Express of 3 September 1920 names the cemetery and the day, and a Find a Grave index entry places his grave there S1716. It is Probable because the newspaper was read as machine text and the grave entry as an index line; neither page has been read as an image and no photograph of a stone has been seen. Know more, or think this is wrong? Use “Add to this record”.
Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: his parents are not in this record; the 1891 marriage and the death entry are read from indexes; the newspaper was read as text, which prints his initials as “B. Research status

Research status: CONFIRMED as the father of Ruby Edna Cearley Piland; the days of his birth and death are Probable. The 1930 census of Austin, read from the image, lists Edmond A. Cearley, 52 and widowed, as the father-in-law of the head of the house, Merrill Z. Piland, whose wife is Ruby E.; two Cearley sisters-in-law are in the same house S1376. The Travis County marriage licence of 1921, also read from the image, gives the bride as Miss Ruby E. Cearley, and the census says that both she and Merrill were in their first marriage S1444. So the father-in-law is her father. The image was read on 4 October 2026 and was not opened again when this card was written.

Open questions

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → Edmund A. Cearley was born on 29 November 1877 in Williamson County, Texas, and died at Austin, Travis County, Texas, on 9 June 1954, aged 76. Both days come from the index of his Texas death certificate; the index of his First World War draft registration gives the same day of birth S1725. What is weak or missing: these are indexes, and no image of the certificate or of the draft card has been read; the draft index gives his birthplace as Travis County, not Williamson; and that the Edmond A. Cearley of the 1930 census is the man who died in 1954 rests on his name, his age and Austin. Know more, or think this is wrong? Use “Add to this record”.
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → The index of the 1910 census of Travis County lists Edmund A. Cearley and his wife Georgia with Ruby E., born about 1903, Etta M., Homer S. and Lavern J.; the draft registration index names Georgia Cearley as his nearest relative S1725. Etta M. is Etta May Cearley Caughey (1901–1985), who has a card of her own, Probable S1751. Lavern J., born about 1908, is on the Ancestry tree as a third daughter, Probable, the evidence strong: the indexes of the 1910, 1930 and 1940 censuses list her in his household or with her sisters. No record of her death has been found, so she has no card and nothing more is said of her here S1725. What is weak or missing: the census page has not been read, so the relationship column is not known; her maiden name has not been found. By 1930 he was a widower. Know more? What is weak or missing: the marriage is read from the index only and the register is not yet read; and Ella’s own place in this record, as mother of Maude Melville Warner, is itself Probable. Evidence: The Nebraska marriage index names the bride of Alden R. Moural in 1918 as Martha M. A. Warner, daughter of Clifford Warner and Ella Schreckengast; the 1920 census, read from the image, lists Ella A. Warner as mother-in-law in the household of Alden R. Moural and his wife Martha M. Weak or missing: The marriage is read from the index only; her birth and death dates come from index entries, not the records; the 1910 and 1920 censuses disagree on her birthplace; her mother Ella's own link to this record is Probable. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Open questions

Probable
Probable mother of Lizzie Kretschmar Rojas Probable confirm or correct →. In 1900 Lizzie, born August 1879 in Germany, is “dau.” of the head, Fritz, and Lena is his wife, married 21 years, mother of eight children, all living S228. What is weak: the census relationship is to the head, not to Lena; Lizzie's naturalization puts her birth in August 1878, a little before the marriage of about 1879 S577, so she could be a stepdaughter, and no record names her mother.

Research status

Research status: CONFIRMED daughter of Henry Stein and sister of Emma Stein Ladusch. The index of her Texas death certificate, no. 30494, names her father as Henry Stein and gives her home as Rosenberg S1635; Emma’s death notices of 1952 name a sister, “Mrs. Adolph Kelm of Rosenberg” S1610. Most of the death certificate is read from the index; its image was read on 1 October 2026 for her birthplace, her mother’s name and the informant, her son. Added to the family tree on 10 October 2026

Life

Death1966
Died 6 May 1966, Richmond, Fort Bend County, Texas
Birth1886
Born in Austin County, Texas, on 27 November 1886; died at Richmond, Fort Bend County, Texas, on 6 May 1966. The dates are from the death certificate index S1635. The birthplace was corrected on 10 October 2026: the image of the certificate, read on 1 October 2026, says “Austin Co., Texas”, so the index’s “Austin” is the county and not the city
Census1906
Ottilie Stein married Adolph Gotlieb Kelm in Colorado County, Texas, on 6 December 1906, by the county marriage index; the 1940 census index of Fort Bend County has Adolph Kelm, 54, a farmer, and Ottilie, 53, his wife S1635

Family

Parents1880
Her mother was Mary Emmit Probable confirm or correct →. Evidence: the index of her death certificate gives her mother as “Mary Emmit” S1635; the 1880 census has her father’s wife as Mary, 35, born Texas S919; and an 1871 baptism register at New Ulm names Henry Stein’s wife as Maria née Emmert S633. Weak: the certificate’s informant was her son, who was not a witness to her birth; her sister Emma’s certificate calls their mother Amanda “Emmerd”, and no record explains the second given name. Since 10 October 2026 this record carries Henry’s wife as Mary Emmit, Probable; Ottilie is not yet joined to her in the family tree. Know more? Use “Add to this record”.

Open questions

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: the marriage and census records here are read from indexes, not images; whether she and Emma were full or half sisters is not settled; whether she had children is not known, and none is named here. A marriage record for her parents would settle her mother’s name. Know more? Use “Add to this record”.

Birth1885
Born in Colorado County, Texas, on 31 July 1885; died at Richmond, Fort Bend County, Texas, on 25 November 1955, his home then at Rosenberg. All of this is from the index of his Texas death certificate, which names him Adolph Gotlieb Kelm S1638

Family

Parents
The same index gives his father as William Kelm and his mother as Mary Fisher S1638. Neither is entered in this record as a person: the names rest on the index alone and no other record of them has been read

Open questions

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: his birth and death dates rest on the death certificate index alone; that the man who died in 1955 is the groom of 1906 rests on the name, on Rosenberg and on the 1940 household, not on one record that says so; the 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses of his household have not been read; his children are not named here. The images of the 1955 certificate and of the 1906 marriage record would settle the dates and the identity. Know more? Use “Add to this record”.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
