The record in detail

Deceased ancestors are given in full — this is ordinary published genealogy drawn from records that are already public. Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only — Earl's instruction of 3 October 2026: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person's own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only: no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies — an unknown age is resolved protectively, not conveniently.

Life

Birth1924
Born 21 February 1924, Salado, Bell County, Texas S33S34
Death2002
Died 14 March 2002, Hays County, Texas; buried Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, plot 1-566-7 S34
Military1941
United States Marine Corps, 12 August 1941 – 17 September 1945
enlisted four months before Pearl Harbor, at seventeen S33. His stone reads "Married to Lucille / He served in WW2 in the U.S. Marines" S34. The muster rolls, service number 319512, place him in 1944 as a corporal in Battery M, 4th Battalion, 12th Marines — the 3rd Marine Division's artillery regiment, a 105 mm howitzer battery, "in the field" — and in 1945 as a sergeant at the San Diego recruit depot S33. ⚠️ No campaign is claimed for him here. The rolls put his battalion in the Pacific; which landings he personally took part in is not something a muster roll says, and it is not inferred
Census1950
1950 census: head of household, house 605, Austin, Travis County, ED 256-3, aged 26, with Lucille (24), Thomas A. (4) and Sandra M. (1) S32
Census1950
In 1950 he was a candy salesman for a wholesale candy company, at 605 Brentwood, Austin S220
Census1952
The 1952 Austin city directory lists him as “Thos W (Lucille L)”, salesman for Austin Candy, householder at 605 Brentwood: the same house as in 1950, and the directory names the employer the census left unnamed. Confirmed from the page image; the year is from Ancestry’s index, not printed on the page S1691
Census2026
History of this card: 11 Oct 2026
the 1950 street corrected from “Brest” to Brentwood, on a re-read of the census sheet and the 1952 directory (S220, S1691).
He and Lucille retired to Wimberley, Hays County — the shared ZIP on both their records — and died there, fourteen months apart, before being buried together in Austin S33.

Life

Birth1925
Born 25 August 1925, Austin, Travis County, Texas S33S34. Hers is the reason the family was in Austin at all
it is her home town, not her husband's.
Death2001
Died 14 April 2001, Hays County, Texas; buried Austin Memorial Park, plot 1-566-7, with her husband. Her marker reads "Married to Thomas" S34
Census1950
In 1950 she was living with her husband and their two children at 605 Brentwood, Austin S220, and the 1952 city directory has her there still, as “(Lucille L)” in his entry: “Thos W (Lucille L)”, salesman for Austin Candy, householder at 605 Brentwood. She has no entry of her own. Confirmed from the page image; the year is from Ancestry’s index S1691
Schooling1942
She played in the Austin High School Orchestra. “Kretschmar, Lucille” is on the Orchestra Personnel roster in the 1942 Comet, when she was 16. The group photograph has no names, so she is not pointed out in it S438.
Birth1942
In the same 1942 Comet she is Treasurer of the new square-dance club “Swing and Turn”, for both the fall and spring terms, listed as “Lucile Kretschmar”, the spelling on her birth certificate Confirmed S971S264.

Burial
Buried Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas
the same cemetery as his wife, thirty-one years later S37
Death
His obituary, indexed under his own name, gives his death at Fort Worth, Tarrant County, and his last home at Richland Hills Probable confirm or correct → S767. Only the index has been read, not the clipping; its years are “about”, worked out from his age, and it is the same obituary as S295.
Birth1920
His birth was registered with the state as the unnamed infant of Jonah Walker, Jackson County, 5 November 1920, Texas birth certificate 61632 Confirmed S943.

Military
US Army Air Corps, Second World War. Dorothy's obituary: "After her graduation from high school, she met Melvin Walker and shortly after they were married. Upon his discharge from the Army Air Corp, they moved to Ft. Worth" S36
⚠️ A same-name grave that is not his child. An infant "Clarence M Walker, 6 January 1944 – 2 December 1944" is also buried at Mount Olivet, Fort Worth. The name fits, the cemetery fits and the date would fit a first child born before the move. No record connects him to this couple, and he is not attached here — recorded so the next reader does not adopt him on the strength of a name Not found.

Open questions

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: a 1943 Florida index lists a Clarence M. Walker in Bay County (vol. 774, certificate 4584), but there are five other Clarence Walkers in that index the same year, so it is not taken as his. What would settle it: the certificate, which gives age and residence.

Died 13 August 2022, aged 96, at Round Rock, Williamson County, Texas
the funeral home's own dateline, which is a statement of residence at death, not of burial city S36
Burial2022
Buried Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth, beside her husband; graveside service 22 August 2022 S36
Residence
A longtime resident of Fort Worth
"they moved to Ft. Worth where she lived for over 70 years" S36
Arrival
She and her sister Shirley made several trips to Norway, "homeland of their maternal grandparents"
the obituary predicting the Selland surname before it was found S36. Family testimony Graded as what it is. This is a sentence a family wrote for a funeral programme, not a record. It is a lead on the Selland line — it points at a Norwegian parish and a generation, and it has already been half-borne-out by the Røldal out-migration entry S75 — but no document has yet been read that says which grandparents, or from where. It is not Confirmed and is not written here as though it were.
Death
Five siblings of her own, named in the same obituary: LaRoy Peters, Betty Sanders, Shirley Peltier, Marlene Jacobs and Eileen Blacketer S36. Their own lines are not worked here.
There was never a collision risk here, and that is unusual. "Dorothy Walker" is a common name, and the research brief warned against attaching one on name alone. No inference was needed: her obituary names the client household outright — her granddaughter Kristin and Earl […], and their three children by name S36. The subject was identified by her own family, in print.
⚠️ The "died in Austin" discrepancy, resolved. The family's account was that she died in Austin; FindAGrave's copy of the obituary gives no place at all. The original publisher's copy carries the dateline "ROUND ROCK" — twenty miles north of downtown Austin, in the same metro. The family's account is right; "Austin" is Round Rock S36. The memory-care facility itself is Not found in any document and was not searched for — private medical detail about a recently deceased person, adding nothing to the genealogy.
Who her obituary names as surviving her. It is a family-written survivor list and it is the reason several people on this page can be tied to each other at all. Her three daughters, in its own words: "LaVonne Danielson […], Marilyn (Phillip) McGovern of Nashville, TN, and C.J. (Ed) Farris of Arlington, TX" — and her sisters Shirley Peltier, Marlene Jacobs and Eileen Blacketer, with a brother-in-law, Romie Sanders. Her four grandchildren, in the obituary's own sentence: "Brad Caffey (Erin) of Round Rock, TX, Jessica (Martin) Carrier of McKinney, TX, Kristin (Earl) Proeger […] and David (Marci) Peters of Nashville, TN." That sentence is what welds this record's two halves together from the published side — Brad and Kristin as grandchildren of one woman, in print, not inferred from a surname S36.
The obituary is published here in full, as a page image, and unredacted. It names seven of the next generation — Ava and Grant Peters; Preston and Scarlett Caffey; and Earl's own Maia, Evelyn and Axel — alongside the family's towns. Some of them are minors. This record's rule publishes a minor's name and nothing else; this page image is Earl's explicit per-item exception to that rule, made on 25 September 2026, and it covers this one document only S36.

Kristin's aunts

Confirmed

Her father's sisters · one deceased, one living

  • Sandra Caffey Falkenberg, 28 July 1948 – 4 April 2025, died at San Antonio, aged 76. Her obituary calls her "the daughter of T.W. and Lucille Caffey" and names her late brother "Tommy" S35. She is the "Sandra M, age 1" on the 1950 census sheet — her stated birth date matches the enumerated age exactly S32
  • Donna Caffey Rinn — living. Named as a surviving sister in both her siblings' obituaries; nothing further is published here S31S35
Sandra's obituary matters out of proportion to its length. Written nine years after her brother's, by a different funeral home in a different city, it names the same parents and the same three siblings — an independent document arriving at the identical family.

Kristin's mother's sisters, and how the household was proved

Confirmed

Texas Birth Index, Tarrant County · and the 1950 US Census

  • All three daughters of Clarence Melvin Walker and Dorothy La Vonne Peters appear in the Tarrant County birth index to the same couple, and all three match the survivors named in Dorothy's 2022 obituary S39S36
  • Clare La Vonne Walker — Kristin's mother. Living; this list gives her name and relationship only. Her full record is on her own card
More · 3 further facts
  • Marilyn Dorothy Walker — the "Marilyn (Phillip) McGovern of Nashville, TN" of the obituary. Living; details withheld
  • Carolyn Jane Walker — the "C.J. (Ed) Farris of Arlington, TX" of the obituary. Living; details withheld
  • 1950 US Census, White Settlement, Tarrant County — Clarence M. Walker and Dorothy L. Walker in one household with daughters Clare and Marilyn. Carolyn Jane was not yet born. A federal enumerator, on one line S39
One index row carries the whole finding. The Tarrant County birth entry for Clare La Vonne Walker gives both parents — Clarence Melvin Walker and Dorothy La Vonne Peters — in a single line. It supplies the husband's full name, the wife's maiden name, and the Fort Worth birth the family had always described, all from a state vital record rather than from a headstone S39. The date on that row is not reproduced here: she is living.
⚠️ Neither Dorothy's memorial nor Melvin's carries FindAGrave family links — both were checked, and neither has parents, spouse or children attached. The shared cemetery is corroboration only. The obituary and the state vital records carry this finding on their own S36S37.

In 1920, in Hays County, “Arvin P.” (the image reads “Orvin O.”), 26, and his wife Mabel, 24, had a daughter Alice L., 5 S910; in 1930 Mabel was a widow at Austin with Alice Lorena, 15 S924, and a Texas birth index names Alice Lorene's father as Orbin Oliver Piland S923. His parents, Edward Raymond Piland and Virginia Francis “Jennie” Montgomery Probable confirm or correct →, married in Gonzales County on 28 June 1883, by the licence, read from the image S913; the family is in Gonzales County in 1900 S912. Jennie, born August 1858, died in 1927 S915. Research status: PROBABLE, accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence. What is weak: the death certificate image has not been read; it gives Galveston as her birthplace while the 1900 census has the family in Waco; the Hamby family has not yet been researched.

The state birth index names him and Marianne Zelphia Clawson as the parents of Jessie Lee Caffey, born in Travis County in 1939 Confirmed S1122. It is the same Jessie Lee who is in his 1950 household. It also names him and Dorothy Maye Mangum as the parents of a son, Howard David Caffey, born in Travis County in 1950 S1123. That gives Dorothy’s maiden name as Mangum, the surname of the parents proposed for her above, though the index does not name her parents.
Death1986
Confirmed His wife’s obituary in the Austin American-Statesman of 26 November 1986 (p. B4): Dorothy M. Caffey, 66, of Pflugerville, died Tuesday [25 November 1986]. She was a retired bookkeeper at the main library of the University of Texas at Austin and a member of First Baptist Church of Austin. It names her husband Howard L. Caffey and her mother, Mrs. Arleene Mangum of Austin, which supports the Mangum parentage given above, still Probable. The funeral was on Friday 28 November at Hyltin-Manor Funeral Home, with burial in Capital Memorial Park S1592. The line above said her dates were withheld because she might be living; this notice settles that she died in 1986. Family

Marriage1937
He married Marian Zelphia Clawson on 24 October 1937 at Calvary Baptist Church, Austin S519. In 1950 he was a cab driver and watchmaker in Austin, with his wife Dorothy M., Jessie Lee and two Piland stepsons S520.
Marriage1946
On 5 October 1946 in Travis County he married Mrs. Dorothy Piland, the Dorothy M. of the 1950 household S681.
Parents1921
Marian's birth certificate records a daughter of Jess Clawson, 26, a labourer, and Lillie Reeves, 23, both born in Texas, born on 28 November 1921 at 3201 San Gabriel Street, Austin, their first child; she was not yet named S732.
Marriage1940
His wife Dorothy's parents were probably Page S. Mangum and Arlene Mangum Probable confirm or correct →: the 1940 census of Austin, read from the image, lists Dorothy M., 19, daughter, single and in college, born Texas, at 1802 Pearl Street in the household of Page S. Mangum, 52, and his wife Arlene, 41, both born Mississippi, with a younger daughter Kathleen G. S888. The Texas birth index records a son of Logue Taylor Piland with his mother entered as Dorothy May Mangum S889, and she married Howard as Mrs. Dorothy Piland in 1946 S681. What is weak: the identity runs through an index and a licence rather than one document; the census does not say Arlene is Dorothy's mother; Arlene's maiden name, given in family trees as Furr, and both parents' birth days and death dates are on no document read. Accepted by Earl on 28 September 2026 pending more evidence.

Open questions

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → Dorothy was probably the Dorothy Kathleen Mangum whose Texas birth certificate names her parents as Page Stanley Mangum and Arleene Furr; until now Furr came only from family trees. Weak: the middle name is Kathleen, not Maye, and the 1940 household has a younger sister Kathleen G. Her own dates are not given, because she may be living. Know more? Use “Add to this record” S1466

Life

Birth1898

Census1940
By 1940 she had remarried: she is “Lee”, 42, wife of Ewell F. Hughes, a Lee County farmer, with her children Ladell, Howard R. and Lucy Lee Collins S538.
Census1910
In April 1910 her future first husband, Guy Collins, then 11, was living with his parents T. J. and Lucy Collins, his elder brother Roy and two younger children on a rented farm in Atascosa County, Texas, read from the census image S1114. The family had moved there from Shelby County, where they were in 1900 S872. Lucy’s age is given as 31, which does not fit the 1900 census.

Marriage1922
Married Thomas Guy Collins, 25 December 1922, Bell County; died 9 October 1988

Children1932
Her daughter Lucy Lee Collins was born 16 July 1932 in Precinct 4, Bastrop County, recorded as her fifth child; the certificate, filed late, gives the father's birthplace as Panola County S770.
Marriage1900
Her first husband's parents were probably Thos (Thomas J.) Collins and Lucy Collins Probable confirm or correct →: the 1900 census of Precinct 5, Shelby County, Texas, read from the image, lists Guy, son, born October 1898, in the household of Thos Collins, a farmer born September 1869 in Texas, and his wife Lucy, born April 1872, the mother of two children, both living, with an older son Roy S872. Guy's own 1935 death certificate names his parents as T. J. Collins and Lucy S676. What is weak: the 1900 census gives the boy only as Guy; Lucy's maiden name, given in family trees as Blake, the middle name Joseph, and the couple's birth days and death dates are on no document read. Accepted by Earl on 28 September 2026 pending more evidence.
Marriage1917
Her first husband served in the First World War as a private first class in the medical detachment of the 144th Infantry, 36th Division, from 16 July 1917 to 21 June 1919; the application for his military headstone, made at Elgin in January 1935, gives his death as 12 January 1935 and his burial in the Elgin cemetery S1276

Open questions

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → By July 1954 she was probably Mrs. Lee Stone of Elgin: her stepmother Medie Stobaugh’s obituary names “one daughter, Mrs. Lee Stone of Elgin” S1597, and her half-brother T. O. Caffey’s 1987 obituary names the same Mrs. Lee Stone of Elgin as his sister S1589. Evidence: she went by Lee in 1940, her first husband is buried at Elgin, and no other daughter is known. Weak: neither notice gives her maiden name, and no Stone marriage record has been found; both were read from the page text (OCR). What would settle it: a Hughes or Collins to Stone marriage record, or her 1988 death record. Know more? Use “Add to this record”

Evidence: The delayed Texas birth certificate, read from the image, records Dorothy Mable Caffey, born 24 September 1922 at Salado, daughter of James Cleburne Caffey and Ebber Owens (S1397); the obituary index and the Find a Grave index give Dorothy Mabel Caffey Hibler, born 24 September 1922 at Salado, died 22 August 2013 at Kyle, buried at Austin; her brother Woodrow's 1987 obituary names a sister Dorothy Hibler of Austin (S1712). Weak or missing: Her death, burial and married name are read from indexes only, and the 2013 obituary text is unread; the birth certificate was filed late, in 1959, on her mother's oath, and spells the name Mable. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Life

Death1922
Dorothy Mabel Caffey Hibler: born 24 Sep 1922 in Salado, Bell, Texas and died 22 Aug 2013 in Kyle, Hays, Texas
Death1987
She is the “Dorothy Hibler of Austin” named among the surviving sisters in the 1987 obituary of her brother Woodrow Willard Caffey S1712; that she is the same woman is probable, not proved. The birth certificate spells her second name Mable; the 2013 indexes spell it Mabel, which stands here.

Burial
Buried in Kopperl Cemetery, Kopperl, Bosque County, Texas (Find a Grave 16247883) Confirmed S1323 S1324
Military1921
The Mack C. Bradley born 2 December 1921 at Plainview, probably her fourth husband, was the son of Guy Bradley, a cotton ginner and World War veteran, and Lela M., of O’Donnell, Lynn County; in 1940 he was 18, in his first year of college, and in 1942 he was working for Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego S1405 S1406 S1407
Census1950
In April 1950 Sid, 36, was entered as divorced, a carrier salesman for a meat packer, living with his widowed mother at 1519 Vee St., Fort Worth. This does not fit the family’s date of about 1947 for his marriage to Catherine, and the conflict is not yet resolved S1415
Census1956
Possible, not confirmed: A 1956 Lubbock directory lists a Mack C. Bradley, a Pioneer Natural Gas repairman, with a wife (not named, as she may be living) (Ancestry record 391144300); it fits the Plainview- and O’Donnell-born Mack, but nothing ties the two. What would settle it: his 1984 death certificate or obituary. Separately, the 1931 Fort Worth directory has two Sidney Bradleys, neither at the family’s Highland Avenue address (Ancestry record 398629377), so neither is taken as Robert Sidney. What would settle it: a directory line also listing Pattie or J. B. Bradley at the same address.

4. Mack C. Bradley, married 10 August 1973 in Tarrant County Confirmed; probably the Mack C. Weak or missing: no record yet names her as Mack’s widow, and the first husband and the Sid Bradley marriage date are unknown.

Open questions

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → Family statement: a niece recalls that “Aunt Mary” married at least four times, and that her second and fourth husbands were both named Bradley S1315. Records now show Robert Sidney Bradley was the 2nd and Mack C. Bradley the 4th, with Loyd Robert Boydstun between them (see above); the first husband is not yet identified. Weak or missing: the Boydstun marriage and divorce and the Mack Bradley marriage are now on record (S1327–S1329), but there is still no marriage record for Sid Bradley (the family says about 1947) and nothing yet on the first husband.
Probable
Probable confirm or correct → Her third husband was probably the Lloyd R. Boydstun, 25, of Fort Worth in 1950, a carpenter’s helper for a building contractor, with a wife Mary J. and daughters Beverly J. and Rosemary, who are named only. Weak: name, age and city only. Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
