How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not. The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on 13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information rather than lacking it.
Attested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
Strongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field, or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Searched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Supplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands apart from the three record tags above S24.
Biological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond: no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document was read for it S46.
The person is living. On the charts and in the chains of names a living person appears by name and relationship. A living adult’s full record is on their own card, published with the family’s consent and kept out of search engines. A minor appears by name only. The privacy note at the head of the page gives the rule in full.
A branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

The record in detail
Deceased ancestors are given in full — this is ordinary published genealogy drawn from records that are already public. Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only — Earl's instruction of 3 October 2026: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person's own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only: no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies — an unknown age is resolved protectively, not conveniently.

Evidence: He is Alvie, 13, son, in Anna Bell Gold’s 1910 household (S1092), and her 1949 obituary names a son Alvie Gold of Texas City (S1552); the indexes of his two draft registrations and the Social Security Death Index give one birth date, and the 1917–18 card names a relative “Annie Gold” (S1645). Weak or missing: The draft cards were read from the index, not the images, so “relative” is not shown to mean mother; Texas City in 1949 is not bridged to Elgin, where he registered in 1942. Evidence: The Texas birth index names Carey Clabourn Caffey, born 15 February 1911 in Bastrop County, with father James Clinton Caffey and mother Ebber Lutilia Owens; the 1930 census index has Carey, 19, a son in J. C. Caffey's household in Travis County; his 1940 draft card index gives Elgin as his birthplace and Del Rio as his home; the Find a Grave index gives 15 February 1911 to 20 April 1989, Haynie Chapel Cemetery, Garfield; his brother Woodrow's 1987 obituary names a brother Kirk Caffey of Del Rio (S1712). Weak or missing: Every record is read from an index, none from an image; the index of his obituary dates the death three days later than Find a Grave, and the obituary itself is unread; that he was the Kirk of 1987 rests on the Del Rio residence and the obituary index's Carey Kirk Caffey. Evidence: The delayed Texas birth certificate, read from the image, records Dorothy Mable Caffey, born 24 September 1922 at Salado, daughter of James Cleburne Caffey and Ebber Owens (S1397); the obituary index and the Find a Grave index give Dorothy Mabel Caffey Hibler, born 24 September 1922 at Salado, died 22 August 2013 at Kyle, buried at Austin; her brother Woodrow's 1987 obituary names a sister Dorothy Hibler of Austin (S1712). Weak or missing: Her death, burial and married name are read from indexes only, and the 2013 obituary text is unread; the birth certificate was filed late, in 1959, on her mother's oath, and spells the name Mable. Evidence: The Social Security Numident index gives her birth on 16 June 1920 at Salado, Bell County, her death on 8 July 2003, and her parents as James C Caffey and Ebben L Owens; the 1930 census index has Lola P., 9, a daughter in J. C. Caffey's household in Travis County; the Social Security Death Index and the Find a Grave index give the same dates, with burial at Garfield; her brother Woodrow's 1987 obituary names a sister Lola Pearl Leach of Austin (S1712). Weak or missing: Every record is read from an index, none from an image; the Numident index enters her under the surname Schmidt, which is unexplained; Manchaca is her last residence, used as the place of death; no marriage record has been searched.
