How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not. The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on 13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information rather than lacking it.
Attested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
Strongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field, or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Searched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Supplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands apart from the three record tags above S24.
Biological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond: no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document was read for it S46.
The person is living. On the charts and in the chains of names a living person appears by name and relationship. A living adult’s full record is on their own card, published with the family’s consent and kept out of search engines. A minor appears by name only. The privacy note at the head of the page gives the rule in full.
A branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

The record in detail
Deceased ancestors are given in full — this is ordinary published genealogy drawn from records that are already public. Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only — Earl's instruction of 3 October 2026: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person's own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only: no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies — an unknown age is resolved protectively, not conveniently.

⚠ NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH Jane Bell (c.1879–1955, Texas), a possible later wife of Earl's great-grandfather William Leonard Proeger Sr; that marriage is not proven, and she is not Earl's ancestor. Two different women, four generations apart, with the same name. This is the 3rd-great-grandmother, wife of Peter Hines Martin of Sumner County, Tennessee.

Evidence: The 1900 Quisenberry family book, her 1827 marriage (read from the register image), the 1850 and 1860 censuses, her daughter Maria Louise's 1933 death certificate, which gives the mother's maiden name as Quinesberry, and her son Harvey's 1920 death certificate (S1275), which gives it as Quisenberry. DNA is consistent with her as Nannie's mother (GEDmatch, one line, through her son David Chenault, born 1833). Weak or missing: Her birth date and parents come from the compiled book; no record of her birth has been read. The DNA cannot tell her father Colby from his brothers. Not yet confirmed. Know more? 11 Oct 2026 — status raised to Confirmed on three register images.
12 Oct 2026 — the “new” and warning markers and the dates on these notes folded into the standing text; no fact or grade changed. The same day his father’s three recorded trades (weaver, whitewasher, painter) were set side by side from the entries already on file; nothing was re-graded.

Evidence: the 4 February 1841 Cedros marriage register, read from the archive image, names the groom as son of Antonio Francisco da Silva and Anna Francisca — the same couple Frank Silva Sr's 1862 baptism names as his paternal grandparents — of the parish of Pedro Miguel, the parish José Francisco da Silva is repeatedly called native of. Weak or missing: no record yet names this groom and José Francisco da Silva as brothers in words; the tie rests on shared parents' names, parish and generation. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Evidence: The 1944 obituary of Pauline Schultz, read as machine text, says she was born Pauline Boetcher and came to the United States with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Boetcher, and names her brothers Otto, Henry and Albert Boetcher and her sister Mrs. E. M. Wristen; the indexes of the Texas death records of those four name August Betcher as father; the index of his own death record gives his birth on 10 December in Germany and his death on 27 August 1919 at Clyde, Callahan County (S1736). Weak or missing: One obituary, read as machine text and not from the page image, is the only record that names him as Pauline's father; her own death certificate has not been found; the index gives his son Albert's birth ten weeks before Pauline's; the year of his birth differs between the indexes; no image has been read. Evidence: The index of her own Texas death record, filed under her husband's name, gives her birth on 26 October 1838 in Germany, her death on 26 August 1926 at Abilene and her father as O. Kimski; the indexes of the death records of two of her children name their parents as August Betcher and Libby Kamiska or Lizzie Cominske (S1737, S1736); Pauline Schultz's 1944 obituary, read as machine text, names her parents as Mr. and Mrs. August Boetcher. The evidence is strong that she was his wife. Weak or missing: No record names her as Pauline's mother by name; the Find a Grave index gives her birth as 6 October 1839; one Social Security claim gives her maiden name as Engle; every record is an index or machine-read text and no image has been read. Evidence: Her 1911 Kentucky death certificate, which names James Brock and Betsy Howard as her parents; an 1852 Laurel County birth register naming Levi Hoskins and Elizabeth Brock as a child's parents; the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses, which show Levi and Elizabeth with the same children in the same order. Weak or missing: The death certificate's informant, H. D. Peters, was the undertaker and very probably her son-in-law, writing 80 years after her birth, and the birth register gives no age for Elizabeth, so the Levi Hoskins link is probable. Evidence: Henry Henderson’s marriage and death cards name his mother as Carrie K. Gilfillan (S357, S361) and the 1880 census has Caroline K., 43, as his mother (S1087); a Caroline Kent Gilfillan was born at Barnet, Vermont, on 3 September 1836 to Moses Gilfillan (S1657). Weak or missing: No record read states that the Barnet-born Caroline is Henry’s mother; it rests on name, age and neighbouring towns. The birth record and 1850 census were read from the index only, and they disagree on her mother’s name (Hannah or Susanna). Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Evidence: Edward Gregg’s 1905 death register entry names his mother as Mary Gregg (S927) and she is Mary, 45, in Alfred Gregg’s 1850 household (S928); his 1905 obituary calls his parents “Alfred and Mary Kerr Gregg” (S1660).
