Research status: PROBABLE (strong) as the father of José Duarte Pereira, and so great-grandfather of Anna "Annie" L. Silva. Named as paternal grandparent, with Felicia Rosa, at the 1839 Capelo baptism of Anna Luiza do Coração de Jesus S2395. Weak: that single entry is the only record, read from a copy another Ancestry member shared; anyone with a better record can use “Add to this record”.

Evidence: The 14 April 1839 baptism at Capelo of Anna, daughter of José Duarte Pereira and Anna Luiza, names Gabriel José Pereira and Felicia Rosa as her paternal grandparents (S2395). Weak or missing: One register entry names them, read from a copy of the page another Ancestry member shared, not the archive scan; no record of their own baptism, marriage or burial has been read. Life in the order the records give it

Gabriel José Pereira lived in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries on the island of Faial in the Azores, most likely at Capelo, where his son's family were natives and parishioners. He is known from one entry: the baptism at Capelo on 14 April 1839 of Anna, born on 2 April, daughter of José Duarte Pereira and Anna Luiza, which names him and Felicia Rosa as the child’s paternal grandparents S2395. That makes him the father of José Duarte Pereira and the great-grandfather of Anna “Annie” L. Silva, who emigrated to California. The godfather at that baptism, Francisco Pereira, single, is described as a son of the paternal grandparents, so Gabriel had at least one other son. Nothing else about his life has been found yet.

Image shared on Ancestry by member 00dd2d3b (hint 1028737903526), image examined, transcribed 24 October 2026 (TRANSCRIBE-20261024 round 3). Probable (strong) Anna, daughter of José Duarte Pereira and his wife Anna Luiza, natives and parishioners of the Santíssima Trindade, lugar do Capello; paternal grandparents Gabriel José Pereira and [F?]elicia Roza; maternal Antonio Ignacio da Silva and Rozalia Ignacia; born 2 April 1839, baptised 14 April 1839 by the vicar Francisco de Serpa Baptista. Godfather Francisco Pereira [?], single, “filho dos avós paternos”; godmother Ignacia Luiza, wife of José Silveira. The only record so far naming the four grandparents. The parents’ names and the parish agree with Anna Luiza’s 1858 marriage (S1235). A member’s copy of the page, not the archive’s own scan (BPARJJG, Capelo baptisms), and member uploads have been misread before; the first letter of “Felicia” and the godparent clause are partly illegible. The archive scan, or José Duarte Pereira’s marriage at Capelo, would settle the grandparents.
