Research status

Research status: PROBABLE daughter of William Anderson Bowles and Iona Belle Brock; by 1947 she was Mrs. Fathergail. Evidence: two entries in an index of newspaper obituaries S1663. The first, for her mother’s obituary in the Abilene Reporter-News of 5 July 1947 S1632, lists Frances Fathergail among the survivors; the second, for the obituary of her brother S. A. Bowles in the same paper on 3 June 1964, lists her as his sister. Added to the family tree on 11 October 2026

Evidence: Two entries in an index of newspaper obituaries list Frances Fathergail as a survivor of her mother, Iona Belle Bowles, in 1947 and as a sister of S. A. Bowles in 1964 (S1663). Weak or missing: Both are machine-made index entries and neither clipping was read for her name; the papers give only “Frances”; no birth, marriage or death record of hers has been read, and no dates are known. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: both are machine-made index entries, and neither newspaper clipping was read for her name. The papers give only “Frances” and no first name for her husband. No birth, marriage or death record of hers has been read, so no dates are given. She may be the Clara F. Fathergail, born in Arkansas in October 1891, who died in California in 1970, but that rests on the surname and her age alone. Reading the 5 July 1947 obituary by eye would confirm or correct this. Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
