Research status

Research status: PROBABLE. As a daughter of August Betcher the evidence is strong: the index of her Texas death record names August Betcher as her father S1736, and the 1944 obituary of Pauline Augusta Betcher Schultz, read as machine text, names her sister Mrs. E. M. Wristen of Baird. As a daughter of Elisabeth Kamiska Betcher it is Probable and weaker: the index of her Social Security claim names her mother as Libbie Engle, not Kamiska S1737, and Elisabeth is given as her mother here because she is the only wife of August Betcher in any record read. Every record is an index or the machine-read text of a newspaper, and no image has been read.

Evidence: The index of her Texas death record gives her birth on 15 March 1871 in Germany and her death on 21 December 1967 at Baird, Callahan County, and names her father as August Betcher (S1736); the 1944 obituary of Pauline Schultz, read as machine text, names her sister Mrs. E. M. Wristen of Baird. The evidence is strong that August was her father. Weak or missing: The index of her Social Security claim names her mother as Libbie Engle, not Kamiska (S1737), and gives her birthplace as South Bend, Indiana; the Social Security Death Index gives her death as 15 December 1967; every record is an index or the machine-read text of a newspaper, and no image has been read. Life in the order the records give it

Death1967
Emma Betcher Wristen died on 21 December 1967 at Baird, Callahan County, Texas. She was born on 15 March 1871. The day of death is in the index of her Texas death record S1736; the Social Security Death Index gives 15 December 1967. The death record is followed here and both readings are kept.
Census1900
Her birthplace has two readings. The index of her death record and the census indexes of 1900 to 1950 give Germany, and that is followed here; the index of her Social Security claim and the Find a Grave index give South Bend, Indiana S1736S1737. Her father’s census entries put the family’s arrival in the United States in 1871 or 1872.

Wristen; he has no card, no record of the marriage has been read, and her children are not named here.
Weak or missing

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
