How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not. The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on 13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information rather than lacking it.
Attested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
Strongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field, or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Searched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Supplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands apart from the three record tags above S24.
Biological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond: no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document was read for it S46.
The person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages, places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
A branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

Research status
Evidence: The Find a Grave index lists Olvena M. Betcher Cutbirth, born on 21 March 1883, died on 8 July 1980 and buried at Denton, Callahan County, where August and Elisabeth Betcher are buried; the Texas Death Index places her death in Terry County, and the Social Security Death Index gives the same day of birth; the index of the 1900 census lists Alvera, born in March 1884 in Texas, as a daughter in the household of August Betcher; a Texas county marriage index lists J. R. Cutbirth and 'Olvena' Betcher, and a Texas birth index names a mother 'Avena' Betcher (S1750); her sister Pauline's 1944 obituary names a sister Mrs. Bob Cutbirth (S1718). The evidence is strong. Weak or missing: Every record is an index or machine-read newspaper text, and no image has been read; her birth year is 1883 in two indexes and 1884 in the census index; her name is spelled four ways; that the Olvena of the grave index is the Alvera of 1900 rests on the maiden name in that index and the shared cemetery; no record of her own names her parents. 3 of the record's sources are cited here. The numbering is the record's own; the full list, with where else each is cited, is at Sources.
- S1718Indexes — Pauline Augusta Betcher Schultz, born Germany, 24 August 1865; died Abilene, Taylor County, Texas, 7 September 1944. FamilySearch, Find a Grave index (Q243-4DSY); 1910 census index, Abilene Ward 2 (M23Z-F8F); “Texas Deaths” index for her son William J. Schultz, who died at Abilene on 26 March 1972 (K3FC-DBN). Indexes read on 4 October 2026; no image read. Probable Find a Grave: born 24 Aug 1865, died 7 Sep 1944, buried at Abilene. 1910: H. Schultz, wife Pauline, born 1865 in Germany, immigrated 1874, with Otto, Carl, Philip and Minnie. 1972: father Herman Schultz, mother Pauline Betcher. ⚠ Index only: no image has been read, and her own 1944 death certificate has not been found. The 1930 and 1940 census pages that name her are read from the images (S1220, S1221). Serves the card of Pauline Augusta Betcher Schultz; her son William John Schultz has a card of his own (S1724).
- S1750Indexes — Alvera Betcher Cutbirth, born Texas, 21 March 1883; died Terry County, Texas, 8 July 1980. FamilySearch: Find a Grave index (QVKH-7GKS); Texas Death Index (VZXB-DYP); Social Security Death Index (J128-8P8); 1900 census index (M3LZ-TNM); Texas county marriage index (K61B-983); Texas birth index (VX97-XWF). Index text only; no image read. Probable Find a Grave: Olvena M. Betcher Cutbirth, 21 March 1883 – 8 July 1980, buried at Denton, Callahan County. Death index: Terry County. Social Security: born 21 March 1883, last residence Seagraves. 1900: Alvera, daughter, born March 1884 in Texas, in the household of August Betcher. Marriage index: J. R. Cutbirth and “Olvena” Betcher; the date and county are unread. Birth index: a Cutbirth child, mother “Avena” Betcher; the child is not named here. The birth year stands at 1883, on two indexes against the census’s one; her gravestone or death certificate would settle it. That Olvena M. Betcher Cutbirth is the Alvera of 1900 rests on the maiden name in the grave index and the cemetery she shares with her parents (S1736, S1737). These fit the Mrs. Bob Cutbirth named as a sister in the 1944 obituary of Pauline Schultz (S1718). Her husband’s own entries are S1755.
- S1755Indexes — James Robert (Bob) Cutbirth, husband of Alvera Betcher Cutbirth, born Texas, 2 January 1882; died Callahan County, Texas, 28 June 1960. FamilySearch: Texas county marriage index (K61B-983); First World War draft card index (7TGZ-XVPZ); 1900 census index (M3LZ-YY8); 1920 census index (MCM9-VCQ); Texas Deaths index (K34T-5VJ). Index text only; no image read. Probable Marriage index: J. R. Cutbirth and “Olvena” Betcher. Draft card index: his contact is “Olvenia”. The evidence that he is her husband is strong; the date and county of the marriage are unread. He has no card; he is named on his wife’s card. His parents and the couple’s children are not named here.
