Research status

Research status: CONFIRMED son of James Harris Timberman Sr. and his wife Louise E. Harbauer, born August 1893 at Wilkes-Barre. Evidence: the 1900 census, read from the image, lists “Albert, Aug 1893” as a son in the household S139; his 1916 Pennsylvania service card, read from the image, gives him as 22, born Wilkes-Barre, a reporter, with next of kin “Dr. J. H. Timberman, Father” S200; his father’s 1919 obituaries name him “of this city”, a lieutenant of field artillery just home from Germany S1649. Added to the family tree on 10 October 2026

Family parents, marriages, children, siblings

Marriage1919
🆕 An index of newspaper marriage notices has the wedding three times: Miss Nancy Mai Harsh, of Castalian Springs, Tennessee, and Albert N. Timberman, licence dated 31 December 1919, in the Wilkes-Barre papers of 1 and 2 January 1920 S1658. The notices themselves have not been read and no marriage register entry has been found, so the marriage is still entered as probable.

Open questions what is probable, weak or missing — confirm or correct it

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → His wife. He probably married Nannie Mai Harsh, a daughter of Louise Bell Martin Harsh. Evidence: the 1920 census lists Nancy Timberman, 25, born in Tennessee, as the wife of Albert M. Timberman at Wilkes-Barre S1652. What is weak or missing: the census was read from the index, not the image, and prints his initial as M, not N; no marriage record has been found. A Harsh–Timberman marriage record would settle it. Know more? Use “Add to this record”.
Not found
What else is missing: the census gives his birth month and year only; the obituaries were read as machine-read text, not from the page; his death has not been found and none is entered. His brothers: James Harris Timberman Jr. and George W. Timberman.

  1. S1391900 U.S. Federal Census — the James H. Timberman household, Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Ancestry collection 7602, record 47094515, image 4115129_00218. Supervisor's District 6, Enumeration District 159, Ward 5, 2nd Division, sheet 2 B, house 8, dwelling 38, family 44, enumerated 1 June 1900 by John Shadrach. Read from the image at full resolution — 3933 × 3947 px, 21 September 2026; read-only, nothing accepted, attached or edited. Lines 71–75: James H. Timberman, head, June 1858, age 41, married 14 years, Veterinary Surgeon, born New Jersey of New Jersey parents; Louisa E., wife, June 1863, age 36, 3 children born, 3 living, born Pennsylvania of German parents; James H., son, Oct 1886, At School; George W., son, Feb 1892; Albert, son, Aug 1893. The third independent source for the June 1858 birth. The tree carried 4 January 1858; the 1919 Pennsylvania death certificate [S93] gives June / Fourth / 1858 in longhand, and this census, taken nineteen years earlier while he was alive, gives June 1858 and corroborates itself on the age column — 41 at the 1 June 1900 census date is right for a 4 June birth and would be 42 for a 4 January one. ⚠ The day is not on this page: a 1900 schedule carries month and year and no day, so the fourth is not given here; the 1858 township birth return settles it S374. He is already a Veterinary Surgeon here, nineteen years before the certificate records the same trade — and, as there, the occupation exists only in the image and not in Ancestry's transcription. Ancestry indexes the entire household as "Limberman"; the enumerator's looped capital is a T, and that is a transcription artefact, not a name variant.
  2. S200Pennsylvania veterans' service card, Mexican Border 1916 — Albert N. Timberman. Ancestry record 60763399. Read from the image at full resolution, 22 September 2026. Albert N. Timberman, 22, born Wilkes-Barre, reporter; Battalion Sergeant Major, 3rd Field Artillery; next of kin "Dr. J. H. Timberman, Father, 60 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre". 🔑 A son of James Harris Timberman Sr, named with his father on the same card.
  3. S1649Obituaries of Dr. J. H. Timberman — Wilkes-Barre Times Leader, the Evening News, 4 June 1919, p. 5, and Wilkes-Barre Semi-Weekly Record, 6 June 1919, p. 4. Read as machine-read (OCR) text; the page images have not been checked by eye. Born at Alloway, Salem County, New Jersey, 4 June 1858; came to Wilkes-Barre in 1883 after two years’ practice in Philadelphia; trained at the Philadelphia College of Veterinary Medicine; married Louise E. Harbauer in 1885. “Three sons were born to them, James H., Jr., whose death was caused by influenza in January; George W. of Gary, W. Va., and Albert N. of this city.” Albert, a lieutenant of field artillery, had come home from the army of occupation in Germany ten days before. Funeral 5 June from the Washington Apartments; burial at Mt. Greenwood Cemetery. The second paper misprints the birth year as 1958.
  4. S1652Nannie Mai Harsh — Tennessee delayed birth record, Texas death certificate of Nancy Timberman (1982), and the 1920 census, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Ancestry collection 2282, record 311280; collection 2272, record 1356396; collection 6061, record 67359799. Read from the indexes; the images are not yet read by eye. Birth record: Nannie Mai Harsh, born 7 January 1894 at Castalian Springs, Sumner County; father Nathan J. Harsh, mother Louise B. Martin. Death certificate: Nancy Timberman, also indexed Nancy Harsh, born 7 January 1894 in Tennessee; died 1 January 1982 at Abilene, Taylor County, aged 87; father N. J. Harsh, mother Louise Martin. 1920 census: Nancy Timberman, 25, born Tennessee, wife of Albert M. Timberman, 26, North Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre Ward 4.
  5. S1658Marriage notices of Nancy Mai Harsh and Albert N. Timberman — Wilkes-Barre papers, 1 and 2 January 1920. U.S., Newspapers.com Marriage Index: The Wilkes-Barre Record, 1 January 1920, and Wilkes-Barre Times Leader, 2 January 1920 (three index entries). Ancestry, read from the index entry on 2 October 2026; the notices themselves have not been read. Miss Nancy Mai Harsh, of Castalian Springs, Tennessee; licence 31 December 1919, Castalian Springs; to Albert N. Timberman. The index is machine-extracted: one entry spells her “Marsh”, and one gives a Joseph D. Harsh as her father, against the Nathan J. Harsh of her birth record [S1652]; that reading is not adopted.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
