Research status

Research status: PROBABLE. As a son of August Betcher the evidence is strong: the index of his Texas death record names August Betcher as his father S1736, and the 1944 obituary of Pauline Augusta Betcher Schultz, read as machine text, names her brother Albert Boetcher of Oplin. As a brother of Pauline it is Probable. No record read names his mother, and none is given here. Every record is an index or the machine-read text of a newspaper, and no image has been read.

Evidence: The index of his Texas death record gives his birth on 9 June 1865 in Prussia and his death on 15 December 1954 in Callahan County, and names his father as August Betcher (S1736); the 1944 obituary of Pauline Schultz, read as machine text, names her brother Albert Boetcher of Oplin. The evidence is strong that August was his father. Weak or missing: No record names his mother; the index gives his birth ten weeks before Pauline's, so one of the two dates is wrong or they are not full brother and sister; every record is an index or the machine-read text of a newspaper, and no image has been read. Life in the order the records give it

Death1954
Albert Betcher died on 15 December 1954 in Callahan County, Texas. He was born in Prussia on 9 June 1865. Both dates are in the index of his Texas death record S1736. He is in the indexes of the 1910 and 1930 censuses S1736.
Census2026
History of this card. 12 Oct 2026
card written when he was added to the family tree, from the death and census indexes (S1736) and the machine-read text of his sister Pauline’s 1944 obituary.

Family parents, marriages, children, siblings

Siblings1865
His date of birth conflicts with his sister’s. The index gives his birth as 9 June 1865, ten weeks before Pauline’s on 24 August 1865, so one of the two dates is wrong or they are not full brother and sister. For that reason he is linked to his father alone, and Elisabeth Kamiska Betcher is not given as his mother. The images of his death certificate and of Pauline’s, which has not been found, would settle it.

Open questions what is probable, weak or missing — confirm or correct it

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → Son of August Betcher (1831–1919). Brother of Pauline Augusta Betcher Schultz, by her obituary; Otto Betcher, Henry Edward Betcher and Emma Betcher Wristen are children of the same father. His wife and his children are not named here.
Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: no record names his mother; his birth date and Pauline’s cannot both be right for a full brother and sister; every record here is an index or the machine-read text of a newspaper, and no image has been read. Know more, or think this is wrong? Use “Add to this record”.

None of these entries names Pauline; she is tied to him by her 1944 obituary, read as machine text, which names the same brothers and sister. The Find a Grave index gives a day of death two days later than the death index, and the year of his birth differs by a year or two between the entries. Albert’s birth is indexed as 9 June 1865, ten weeks before Pauline’s, and no entry names his mother. Otto’s and Emma’s death indexes name the father alone. Other indexes give 4 November and 4 December 1880 for Henry’s birth, and the Find a Grave index gives 6 June 1974 for Otto’s death. Serves the cards of August Betcher, Elisabeth Kamiska Betcher, Pauline Augusta Betcher Schultz, Albert Betcher, Emma Betcher Wristen, Otto Betcher and Henry Edward Betcher.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
