Research status

Research status: CONFIRMED daughter of James L. Montgomery. Evidence: her obituary in the Victoria Advocate of 9 January 1986 calls Mrs. Irene Jarratt, 82, of Austin, “daughter of James L. and Elizabeth Billings Montgomery”; the Austin American-Statesman of 8 January has her as “Mrs. W. Irene Jarratt” with the same date and survivors S1668. She is “Mrs. C. A. Jarratt of Laredo” in her father’s 1932 obituary. Added to the family tree on 11 October 2026

Life in the order the records give it

Birth1903
Born 14 August 1903 at Pilgrim, Gonzales County, Texas; died on 7 January 1986 in an Austin nursing home; buried at Leesville Cemetery near Nixon S1668

Family parents, marriages, children, siblings

Marriage1918
Married Charles Allen Jarratt at Victoria, Texas, on 19 November 1918. Both obituaries say so: hers, “She married Charles Allen Jarratt in Victoria Nov. 19, 1918” S1668, and his, “He married Irene Montgomery on Nov. 19, 1918, in Victoria” S1669. No county marriage record has been read; by these dates she was 15
Marriage1899
Her husband, Charles Allen Jarratt, was born on 31 October 1899 in Gonzales County and died on 26 August 1991 S1669. He has no card of his own: his dates rest on his obituary alone and where he died is not entered. He was very likely a brother of John L. Jarratt Sr., her sister Eunice’s husband; that is not proved
Siblings
Her brother and sister with cards: Milton Eastland Montgomery and Eunice Faye Montgomery

Open questions what is probable, weak or missing — confirm or correct it

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → Her mother is entered as Elizabeth Billings, as the obituary names her. What is weak: no record of Elizabeth’s own has been read, and her card sets out the two accounts of 1932
Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: her birth date and place come from the obituary only; “W. Irene” is from the Austin notice, and the Victoria notice says “Irene”; the newspaper text is machine-read; no certificate has been read. Know more? Use “Add to this record”.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
