Research status

Research status: PROBABLE as a son of Pauline Augusta Betcher Schultz and her husband Herman Schultz, and so a brother of Minnie Mae Schultz Coffman. The evidence is strong: the index of the 1910 census of Abilene lists Otto, born in Texas about 1885, as a son in the household of H. and Pauline Schultz, with Carl, Philip and Minnie S1720; and the printed notice of his funeral in 1961 names his brothers Will, Carl and Phil and his one sister, Mrs. Minnie Coffman of 426 Elm Street, the house where Minnie Mae lived S1721. It stays Probable because every record is an index or the machine-read text of a newspaper page: no image has been read, and no record read so far names his parents.

Evidence: The index of the 1910 census of Abilene lists Otto, born in Texas about 1885, as a son of H. and Pauline Schultz, with Carl, Philip and Minnie; the indexes of the Texas death records, his 1942 draft registration and Find a Grave give Otto Herman Schultz, born 16 September 1884, died 24 May 1961 at Abilene (S1720); the notice of his funeral names his brothers Will, Carl and Phil and his sister Mrs. Minnie Coffman of 426 Elm Street (S1721). The evidence is strong. Weak or missing: Every record is an index or the machine-read text of a newspaper page, and no image has been read; the index of his death record gives no usable parents, and the funeral notice does not name them. Life in the order the records give it

Death1961
Otto Herman Schultz died on 24 May 1961 at Abilene, Taylor County, Texas, aged 76. He was born in Texas on 16 September 1884. The day of death comes from the index of the Texas death records, and the day of birth from the index of his 1942 draft registration and the Find a Grave index S1720. The funeral notice gives the same two days and says he was born in Abilene and died in Hendrick Memorial Hospital after an illness of two months S1721.
Record1920
The index of the 1920 census of Abilene lists Otto Schultz, 35, as a son of the head of the household on Elm Street where his sister Minnie Mae and her husband also lived S1720. His line has not been checked on the image of that page.
Death1913
According to the funeral notice he became a partner in the Anderson-Schultz Dry Goods Company in 1913, was its sole owner within two years, and ran Schultz Dry Goods Company until he retired in 1957. His home was at 749 Butternut Street, Abilene; the funeral was held by the pastor of First Methodist Church, with burial at Elmwood Memorial Park S1721.

Family parents, marriages, children, siblings

Parents

Open questions what is probable, weak or missing — confirm or correct it

Probable
Probable confirm or correct → He married Victoria Julia Galbraith. A Texas marriage index lists Otto H. Schultz and “Victor Julia Galbraith”, and the funeral notice says he married her at Abilene in 1918 S1720S1721. What is weak or missing: the marriage record itself has not been read, and the index does not give the day. His wife does not have a card, and their children are not named here. Know more, or think this is wrong? Use “Add to this record”.
Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: every record here is an index or the machine-read text of a newspaper page, and no image has been read; the index of his own death record gives no usable parents, because its parent field repeats his own name; the funeral notice names his brothers and sister but not his parents; and the census indexes give his year of birth as about 1885, a year later than the draft registration. Know more, or think this is wrong? Use “Add to this record”.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
