Research status

Research status: PROBABLE. As a son of August Betcher the evidence is strong: the index of his Texas death record names August Betcher as his father, the index of the 1900 census of Callahan County lists him in his father’s household S1736, and the 1944 obituary of Pauline Augusta Betcher Schultz, read as machine text, names her brothers Otto and Henry Boetcher of Dudley. As a son of Elisabeth Kamiska Betcher it is Probable and weaker: his death index names no mother, and she is given as his mother here because she is the only wife of August Betcher in any record read and was his wife in 1900. Every record is an index or the machine-read text of a newspaper, and no image has been read.

Evidence: The index of his Texas death record gives his birth on 1 September 1876 in Indiana and his death on 25 June 1974 at Abilene, and names his father as August Betcher; the index of the 1900 census of Callahan County lists him in his father's household (S1736); the 1944 obituary of Pauline Schultz, read as machine text, names her brothers Otto and Henry Boetcher of Dudley. The evidence is strong that August was his father. Weak or missing: No record names his mother; the Find a Grave index gives his death as 6 June 1974; every record is an index or the machine-read text of a newspaper, and no image has been read. Life in the order the records give it

Burial1974
Otto Betcher died on 25 June 1974 at Abilene, Taylor County, Texas. He was born in Indiana on 1 September 1876. Both dates are in the index of his Texas death record S1736. The Find a Grave index gives his death as 6 June 1974; the death record is followed here and both readings are kept. His sister’s obituary says that the family lived at South Bend, Indiana, before coming to Texas in 1878, which agrees with a birth in Indiana in 1876.

Find a Grave: born 10 Dec 1831, grave indexed at Denton, Callahan County. 1900: born Dec 1832 in Germany, immigrated 1871, with E. None of these entries names Pauline; she is tied to him by her 1944 obituary, read as machine text, which names the same brothers and sister. The Find a Grave index gives a day of death two days later than the death index, and the year of his birth differs by a year or two between the entries. Albert’s birth is indexed as 9 June 1865, ten weeks before Pauline’s, and no entry names his mother. Otto’s and Emma’s death indexes name the father alone. Other indexes give 4 November and 4 December 1880 for Henry’s birth, and the Find a Grave index gives 6 June 1974 for Otto’s death. Serves the cards of August Betcher, Elisabeth Kamiska Betcher, Pauline Augusta Betcher Schultz, Albert Betcher, Emma Betcher Wristen, Otto Betcher and Henry Edward Betcher.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
