Research status

Research status: CONFIRMED daughter of Henry Stein and sister of Emma Stein Ladusch. The index of her Texas death certificate, no. 30494, names her father as Henry Stein and gives her home as Rosenberg S1635; Emma’s death notices of 1952 name a sister, “Mrs. Adolph Kelm of Rosenberg” S1610. Most of the death certificate is read from the index; its image was read on 1 October 2026 for her birthplace, her mother’s name and the informant, her son. Added to the family tree on 10 October 2026

Life in the order the records give it

Birth1886
Born in Austin County, Texas, on 27 November 1886; died at Richmond, Fort Bend County, Texas, on 6 May 1966. The dates are from the death certificate index S1635. The birthplace was corrected on 10 October 2026: the image of the certificate, read on 1 October 2026, says “Austin Co., Texas”, so the index’s “Austin” is the county and not the city
Census1906
Ottilie Stein married Adolph Gotlieb Kelm in Colorado County, Texas, on 6 December 1906, by the county marriage index; the 1940 census index of Fort Bend County has Adolph Kelm, 54, a farmer, and Ottilie, 53, his wife S1635

Family parents, marriages, children, siblings

Parents1880
Her mother was Mary Emmit Probable confirm or correct →. Evidence: the index of her death certificate gives her mother as “Mary Emmit” S1635; the 1880 census has her father’s wife as Mary, 35, born Texas S919; and an 1871 baptism register at New Ulm names Henry Stein’s wife as Maria née Emmert S633. Weak: the certificate’s informant was her son, who was not a witness to her birth; her sister Emma’s certificate calls their mother Amanda “Emmerd”, and no record explains the second given name. Since 10 October 2026 this record carries Henry’s wife as Mary Emmit, Probable; Ottilie is not yet joined to her in the family tree. Know more? Use “Add to this record”.

Open questions what is probable, weak or missing — confirm or correct it

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: the marriage and census records here are read from indexes, not images; whether she and Emma were full or half sisters is not settled; whether she had children is not known, and none is named here. A marriage record for her parents would settle her mother’s name. Know more? Use “Add to this record”.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
