How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

- S359Vermont death return — Harriet Artimiza Henderson, Ryegate, 7 December 1930. Ancestry record 216231. Image examined, read 24 September 2026. Confirmed Harriet Artimiza Henderson, married, housewife, aged 63 years 1 month 19 days, born at Ryegate 18 October 1867, daughter of Orange G. Morrison and Elizabeth J. Miller, both born at Ryegate; died of lobar pneumonia after 7 days. Certified copy by Clarence J. McLam, town clerk. This settles her full name, which the site had only from a shared tree.
- S3601870 U.S. Federal Census — Orange G. Morrison household, Ryegate, Caledonia Co., Vermont (P.O. McIndoes Falls), p. 14. Ancestry record 36852849. Image examined, read 24 September 2026. Confirmed Orange G. Morrison, 38, farmer, real estate $3,150; Elizabeth, 37; Winona, 14; Marion, 9; Margaret, 5; and Artemiza, 3, with $4,000 real estate and $1,500 personal estate entered in her own name. The property on a three-year-old's line is larger than her father's; it may have been settled on her, but the page does not say why.
- S832Vermont birth return — Artemiza Morrison, Ryegate, 18 October 1867. Vermont Vital Records 1720–1908, Ancestry collection 4661, record 441247 (image 41599_312395-00307), p. 275; Alex. Cochran, town clerk. Image examined, read 28 September 2026. Confirmed “Artemiza”, female, born 18 October 1867; mother's maiden name Lizzie Miller, born Ryegate; father Orange Morrison, born Ryegate, farmer. Her birth return, written at the time; the same birth date as her 1930 death record (S359).
- S8331880 U.S. Federal Census — Orange G. Morrison household, Ryegate, Caledonia Co., Vermont, SD 137, ED 51, p. 14. Ancestry collection 6742, record 22412260 (image 4244814-00289); enumerated 12 June 1880, dwelling 126, family 134. Image examined, read 28 September 2026. Confirmed Morrison, Orange G., 48, farmer, born Vermont; Elisabeth J., wife, 46, keeping house, born Vermont (her father born Vermont, her mother born Scotland); Marion E., daughter, 19; Maggie J., daughter, 14, at school; Artemiza, daughter, 12, at school. The relationship column makes Artemiza a daughter of the head and Elisabeth J. his wife.
- S834FamilySearch index — Vermont marriage of Henry W. Henderson and Artie H. Morrison. FamilySearch 1:1:QPQX-4GVF (Vermont Town Clerk Vital Records) and 1:1:XF7D-2BX (Vermont Vital Records). Checked 28 September 2026. Probable Bride Artie H. Morrison, born Ryegate; her parents Orange G. (O. G.) Morrison and Elisabeth Miller. Index entries only, with no image read here; independent of the birth return (S832) and the death record (S359). The index gives her birth year as 1868. The marriage card itself is S357.
- S9751900 U.S. census — Caledonia County, Vermont, ED 44, sheet 4A, dwelling 81. Ancestry record 61910640. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 28 September 2026. Confirmed In the household of Maggie J. Morrison, 34, single: her father Orange G., born February 1832, 68, a gardener, and her mother Elizabeth J., born October 1834, her mother born in Scotland, married 45 years. The Ancestry index places the page at Groton. The sheet's “1 child, 1 living” for Elizabeth is an enumerator's slip: she had at least four daughters (S360). Image 4120609_00107.
- S9761910 U.S. census — Groton Village, Caledonia County, Vermont, ED 42, sheet 1B, 16 April 1910. Ancestry record 165365561. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 28 September 2026. Confirmed Orange G., 78, and Elizabeth J., 76, married 55 years, living in the house of their daughter Maggie J., 44, single, a dressmaker. A boarder, James J. Markham, 48, born in Canada, was a lumber manufacturer. Orange was alive on 16 April 1910. This census gives Elizabeth's mother's birthplace as Vermont; the 1880 and 1900 censuses say Scotland, which the site keeps. Image 4455039_00124.
- S9821860 U.S. census — Ryegate, Caledonia County, Vermont, post office South Ryegate, page 211, 4 July 1860, dwelling 1523. Ancestry record 35322148. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 28 September 2026. Confirmed Orange Morrison, 28, farmer, real estate $1,500, personal estate $100, with Eliza, 24, and “Winny”, 4. The next dwelling (1522) is Bradley Morrison, 57, with “Annis”, 57, and Harriet, 21. Orange's age fits his birth in February 1832 (S975), and “Winny” fits Winona of 1870 (S360). The census states no relationships; Bradley Morrison next door is not named here as his father.
- S9871850 U.S. census — Ryegate, Caledonia County, Vermont, 13 September 1850, dwelling 174. Ancestry record 1151445. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 28 September 2026. Probable Bradley Morrison, 48, farmer, real estate $2,500, and Avis, 47, with Orange, 17, laborer, at school, James, 15, and Harriet J., 11, and Juliette Whitehill, 17; all born Vermont. Orange's age, town and birthplace fit Orange G. Morrison, born February 1832 (S975). The 1850 census states no relationships, so Bradley and Avis as his parents is probable, not proven. In 1860 Bradley Morrison, 57, lived next door to Orange (S982), where his wife is written “Annis”. The index spells the surname Marrison.
- S994New Hampshire death return — Marion E. Morrison, Littleton, Grafton County, 10 February 1892. Ancestry record 75177356. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 28–29 September 2026. Confirmed Marion E. Morrison, died at Littleton, New Hampshire, 10 February 1892, aged 30 years 10 months, born at Ryegate, Vermont, single, a housekeeper; cause meningitis; buried at Groton, Vermont. Father Orange G. Morrison, born Ryegate, farmer; mother's maiden name Elizabeth J. Miller, born Ryegate. The index row is under her mother's name; the image is Marion's own death. She is the Marion of the 1870 and 1880 households (S360, S833).
- S1088U.S., Civil War Draft Registrations Records, 1863–1865 — Schedule I, Class I, 2nd Congressional District of Vermont, No. 305, line 19. Ancestry record 4259741. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 1 October 2026. Confirmed Dated 25 June 1863: Ryegate, Morrison Orange, 31, white, farmer, married, born Vermont. Ryegate is where Orange G. Morrison farmed in 1870 and 1880 and where Artie was born in 1867. The age gives a birth about 1832.
