Research status

Research status: CONFIRMED daughter of Edward Raymond Piland and Virginia Francis “Jennie” Montgomery, and a sister of Orbin Oliver Piland. The index of her Texas death certificate names her father as Edward Ray Piland and her mother as Francis Montgomery, and the index of the 1900 census has Myrtle as a daughter in the household of Edward and Virginia Piland in Gonzales County, with her brothers Orbin and Ray S1629. In 1910 a Myrtle was still in Edward R. Piland’s household in Travis County, by a census read from the image S1025. Her mother’s obituary in The Austin American of 26 September 1927 names a surviving daughter, “Mrs. A. P. Nance of Austin” S1574. The death certificate, the 1900 census and the marriage entry are read from their indexes only; the images are not yet read. Raised from Probable on 10 October 2026, the day she was added to the family tree

Life in the order the records give it

Birth1889
Born on 20 June 1889 at Pilgrim, Gonzales County, Texas; died on 2 July 1942 at Buda, Hays County, Texas, both by the index of her death certificate, which calls her Myrtle May Nance S1629. The 1900 census index gives her birth as June 1890, a year later

Family parents, marriages, children, siblings

Marriage1912
Wife of Albert Pate Nance Confirmed (indexes only, images not read): a Travis County marriage index has Myrtle Piland and A. P. Nance in 1912 S1629; the index of his Texas death certificate names his spouse as Myrtle Piland, and the Social Security Applications and Claims Index names her as Myrtle Mae Pilant S1626. Their children are not named here

Open questions what is probable, weak or missing — confirm or correct it

Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: the three new records are read from indexes, not images; the 1900 census and the death certificate differ by a year on her birth; the day and month of the 1912 marriage are not in the index. Reading the death certificate image would settle the birth year and name the informant. Know more? Use “Add to this record”.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
