Research status

Research status: CONFIRMED on the family’s account as the father of John Peters, by the compiled family chart sent on 13 October 2026 by LaVonne Danielson, a descendant S1783 Confirmed. Husband of Catharina Dorothea Henriette “Minnie” Schumacher; grandfather of Benjamin Peters (1881–1957).

Life in the order the records give it

Birth1800
Born 1800 at Kirch Grubenhagen, Müritz district, Mecklenburg, and died there in 1854, by the chart S1783. The chart gives no day for either; the 13 July 1800 and 6 December 1854 shown on the Peters–Hermann line page come from other family trees and no record read ties them to him. The marriage is entered only as “Mecklenburg-Schwerin”, with no date; the chart’s one cited source for the family is the 1867 Mecklenburg-Schwerin census.
Death1821
The chart lists nine children, all born at Kirch Grubenhagen: Diederich Heinrich Friederich (15 August 1821), Johanna Friederike Magdalena (15 October 1822), Johann Heinrich Christian (20 March 1824), Friederich Ludwig Heinrich (11 May 1826 – 20 January 1855), Johann Friederich Vollrath (22 June 1829), Levin Jochim Friederich (24 August 1832 – 17 January 1834), John Charles Johann (John Peters, October 1834 – 30 January 1902, Alexander, Iowa), Johann Friederich Ernst (24 February 1837 – 23 July 1915, Adel Township, Dallas County, Iowa) and Dorothea Henriette Luise Christina (13 October 1843), who married Christoph Carl Wilhelm Friederich Koch at Kirch Grubenhagen on 23 October 1862 S1783.
Record2026
The only source so far is that compiled chart, entered as Confirmed by Earl Proeger’s decision of 13 October 2026 that what LaVonne Danielson contributes is verified. No record read here names him yet. The Kirch Grubenhagen church book (his children’s baptisms, his burial in 1854) would confirm him independently; his son John’s Mecklenburg baptism (the Kirch Grubenhagen church book, on Archion or Ancestry’s Mecklenburg collections) or the 1861 passenger list of the ship Electric S1532 would confirm it independently. The queue row for these cards (PROPAGATION-QUEUE, PETERS-CARDS-1014) names both. Know more? Use “Add to this record”.

Family parents, marriages, children, siblings

Marriage1820
An oddity inside the chart: on the same group sheet his wife is also given an “other spouse”, Johann Vollrath Peters, married 24 November 1820
nine months before the first child. The chart does not say whether that is a first husband, or this man under another name. Both are shown; the church book would settle it.
Children2026
History of this card. 14 Oct 2026
card made from the compiled family chart sent by LaVonne Danielson (S1783, group sheet F683 read 14 Oct 2026); until this day he was named only on his son John Peters’s card and the Peters–Hermann line page.

  1. S1532New York passenger list, ship Electric from Hamburg, arrived 14 December 1861, lines 59–63 — the Hermann family. Ancestry, “New York, U.S., Arriving Passenger and Crew Lists, 1820–1957”, record 2277787. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 1 October 2026. Probable J. Hermann, 44, a farmer; Maria, 44; Friedrich, 16; and Sophia, 17; between decks; arrived at New York on 14 December 1861. Name and age only; nothing on the list ties her to John Peters.
  2. S1783Compiled family chart — “Family: Benjamin Peters / Edna Blanche Orsborn (F492)”, in the “Toni Walker Family Tree” on Canadian Families, a website hosted by Ontario Ancestors (the Ontario Genealogical Society). ontariofamilyhistory.org, family F492, tree 93228; pages last modified 22 January 2025. Sent to this record on 13 October 2026 by LaVonne Danielson, a great-granddaughter of the couple, who had it from a relative. Read by us on 13 October 2026: the group sheets of this family, of both sets of parents (F20, F585) and of the children’s own families, and the person pages. Confirmed Benjamin Peters, born 12 December “1881/2” at Cedar Falls, Iowa, died about 1957 at Sioux Rapids, son of John Charles Johann Peters and Sophia Herman; Edna Blanche Orsborn, born 7 May 1884 at Lawrenceburg, Indiana, died about 1942 at Marathon, daughter of John W. Orsborn and Arimena (Minnie) Howard; married 1 April 1903 at Alexander, Franklin County, “at the residence of Ray Pence, Meservey, Iowa”, by the Rev. J. C. Shirk; five children, Eva M., Benjamin La Roy, Clifford L., Hazel F. and Russell Ray. A compiled tree, not a record: it cites census pages, church registers and other Ancestry trees, and none of its own sources has been read here. By Earl Proeger’s decision of 13 October 2026, what LaVonne Danielson contributes to this record is taken as verified, and what the chart alone carries is entered as Confirmed on the family’s account. Where the chart and a record read here disagree, both are shown and the record stands: John W. Orsborn’s birth (chart 1852, Kentucky; his own 1921 statement 1 June 1848, Cleves, Ohio, S1075), Frank Peters’s death (chart 21 September 1931; certificate 2 September, S1009) and the child of 12 March 1884 (chart a daughter, Clara; birth return a son, S998). It prints both 1881 and 1882 for Benjamin Peters’s birth and so settles nothing between them. Living people on the chart are shown there only as “Living” and are not taken from it.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
