Research status

Research status: PROBABLE — accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence. In the 1850 census of Northern Liberties Ward 3, Philadelphia, Eve Young, 54, born in France, lives with Jacob Young, and the family runs onto the next page with Lewis Harbour, Eve Harbour and three Harbour children S838. Her daughter carries her given name, and the maiden name Young is backed by Eva's 1844 marriage as Eva Jung S582 and a widows' pension index naming her Eva Young Harbauer S839. What is weak: the census has no relationship column, and her own maiden name is unknown

Evidence: In the 1850 Philadelphia census Eve Young, 54, born France, lives with Jacob Young in a family that includes Lewis and Eve Harbour; Eva's 1844 marriage calls her Eva Jung and a widows' pension index names her Eva Young Harbauer. Weak or missing: The census has no relationship column, no document names Eva as her daughter, and her own maiden name is unknown. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

3 of the record's sources are cited here. The numbering is the record's own; the full list, with where else each is cited, is at Sources.

  1. S582Typed transcript of a Philadelphia church marriage register, register p. 229, 9 September 1844. Ancestry record 4849585. Image examined, read 25 September 2026. Confirmed 9 September 1844: Ludwig Halbauer with Eva Jung, both of the Northern Liberties. A later typed copy, not the register itself; the original page has not been seen.
  2. S8381850 U.S. Federal Census — Jacob Young household, Northern Liberties Ward 3, Philadelphia Co., Pennsylvania. Ancestry collection 8054, record 4931979 (image 4205114_00307); dwelling 424, family 530, lines 40–42. Image examined, read 28 September 2026. Probable Jacob Young, 69, male, tailor, born France; Eve, 54, born France; Louisa, 17, born Pennsylvania. The family runs onto the next page, which FamilySearch indexes (1:1:M4CX-7GJ) with Lewis Harbour, Eve [“Ere”] Harbour, and Lewis, Harriet and Sarah Harbour in the same family. The first page was read from the image; the continuation is from the FamilySearch index of the same household. No relationship column, so Eva Harbauer's tie to Jacob and Eve is inferred, not stated.
  3. S839FamilySearch index — U.S. Civil War widows' pension index, Eva Young Harbauer. FamilySearch 1:1:KXCR-19Y and related entries. Checked 28 September 2026. Probable “Eva Young Harbauer”, widow of Louis Harbauer. An index only. It supports her maiden name Young (Jung) but names no parents. FamilySearch 1:1:M37L-TP8 indexes her 1900 census entry (S330).

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
