How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

Life in the order the records give it
Birth—
Her birth and death dates are not known
Family parents, marriages, children, siblings
Parents1806
Daughter of
Johann Michael Schmidt, master weaver at
Brettenfeld, near Rot am See. Married
4 March 1806 at Triensbach, Württemberg; the index's 2 March is the last banns
S592Marriage1807
Widowed that December. Her son Georg Friedrich Pröger was born
27 February 1807, ten weeks after his father's death; he is Georg Melchior Julius's half-brother.
🆕 His 1836 marriage entry names her as his mother, “Eva Barbara geb. Schmidt”. A weaver at Erkenbrechtshausen, he married Maria Margaretha Stegmaier (born 10 December 1801 by that entry; her 1887 burial entry says 18 December, and only her 1801 baptism will settle it S776, Erkenbrechtshausen) at Triensbach on 20 September 1836 Confirmed S738. Their children at Triensbach: Maria Margaretha (born and died 1837) and Georg Friedrich the younger (born 25 December 1838), who married Margaretha Barbara Bauer of Gröningen there on 27 September 1864 Confirmed S775 and died there in 1902 Probable — index entries only S739 Add to this record →Children1864
🆕 Her son Georg Friedrich was dead by September 1864: the register of his son's marriage calls him “† Georg Friedrich Pröger, weaver and cottager” S775. His widow, Maria Margaretha Stegmaier, married again, to Johann Leonhard Frank, a weaver at Erkenbrechtshausen, and died his widow at Triensbach on 16 May 1887 S776. Both entries carry family register II,343, which ties them to this family Confirmed. Open questions what is probable, weak or missing — confirm or correct it

⚠️
Corrected 26 September 2026: she was Georg Melchior Julius's stepmother, not his mother. His own 1804 birth register names his mother as
Maria geb. Büschin,
Anna Maria Busch S591. Eva Barbara married his widowed father when the boy was a year and a half old and raised him, which is why his 1835 marriage and his 1870 burial entries name her as his mother

Generation 6 — earliest known
- S122Georg Melchior Julius Proeger & Elisabethe Sabina Lösch — marriage, Triensbach, Crailsheim, Württemberg, 1835. Germany, Marriages, 1558–1929, FamilySearch ARK 1:1:NZMF-P6V (bride's entry 1:1:NZMF-P6F), read 20 September 2026. Groom born 1804 at Ertenbrechtshausen, single; bride born 1803 at Crailsheim. His parents: Joh. Leonhard David Proeger and Eva Barbara Schmidt. Her parents: Joh. Friedrich Melchior Lösch and Maria Dorothea Wolf. This is the record that names a seventh generation on the Proeger side and a sixth on the Lösch side. It is an index entry, not an image: everything it supplies is Probable until a parish register page is read at Triensbach or Crailsheim. ⚠ Three readings of one woman's given name. This index says Elisabethe Sabina; the 1844 Kirchberg baptism register, written at the time and read at full resolution, says Elisabeth Catharina [S69]; Julius's 1924 Pennsylvania death certificate says Lossetta [S68]. The surname Lösch is identical on all three, and this record takes the contemporaneous register as primary. ⚠ The birthplace is a lead, not a finding. The FamilySearch shared tree says Schwäbisch Hall; both index originals say Erten- or Entenbrechtshausen, two readings of one hand, and Erkenbrechtshausen is a real hamlet 3½ km from the Triensbach church. The place-standardiser separately mangled the baptism entry into "Kirchberg an der Iller, Biberach", 150 km south. Always read the original place field, never the standardised one. ⚠ Corrected 26 September 2026: his 1804 birth register [S591] names his mother as Anna Maria Busch. Eva Barbara Schmid(t) was his stepmother, his father's second wife from 1806, and she raised him.
- S135Georg Melchior Julius Prüger — his own burial register entry, Kirchberg u. Oa., 7 February 1870. Evangelische Kirche Kirchberg (OA. Gerabronn), Heiraten u. Tote 1784–1896, image 639 of 706, burial entry no. 3 of 1870 (page column 634, running no. 205); Landeskirchliches Archiv Stuttgart, through Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials, 1500–1985 (Ancestry collection 61023, record 15195522). Read from the register image at full resolution, 5041 × 4061 px, 21 September 2026. Named Georg Melchior Julius Prüger, Schuhmachermeister in Kirchberg a/J.; born 25 Juli 1804; died 4 February 1870 at seven in the evening, buried 7 February at ten in the morning; age at death 65 years, 6 months, 10 days. Parents, both marked deceased: Johann Leonhard David Prüger, Maler (painter) in Erkenbrechtshausen, and Eva Barbara geb. Schmid. Wife named as Elisabetha Sab[ina] geb. Lösch. This is the entry that settles his trade, and it settles it against the schoolteacher. Three register images now name his occupation: his son's 1844 baptism [S69] and his own burial here both say Schuhmachermeister; only his widow's 1872 entry [S133] says Schullehrer, and that one was written two years after he was dead, in a column describing a late husband. Two contemporaneous readings against one posthumous one. The 1872 reading is kept on this page as a variant and is not deleted. ⚠ The entry also checks itself. The stated age of 65 years, 6 months and 10 days counts forward from the stated birth of 25 July 1804 to exactly 4 February 1870 — the stated death date, to the day. Birth and death corroborate each other inside one record, which no index can do. ⚠ The parentage is no longer index-only. It was carried here from Ancestry's transcription until this reading; the names are now off the image, and the image adds a trade and a maiden name that no index held. The father's residence, Erkenbrechtshausen, is the same village this page already records as Georg's own birthplace [S12] — independently recorded, and the match is what confirmed the reading of a difficult compound. The mother's surname may be written Schmid or Schmidt; the terminal stroke does not decide it and it is not forced here. ⚠ Corrected 26 September 2026: his 1804 birth register [S591] names his mother as Anna Maria Busch. Eva Barbara Schmid(t) was his stepmother, his father's second wife from 1806, and she raised him.
- S591Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers — Triensbach, births 1804, p. 9, no. 10: Georg Melchior Julius Proeger, 25 July 1804. Ancestry record 16796853, image 1860313-00512. Image examined, read 25 September 2026. Confirmed Son of Johann Leonhard David, Tüncher Mstr. at Erkenbrechtshausen, and Maria geb. Büschin (Anna Maria Busch); born at Erkenbrechtshausen. This is his birth register, and it names his mother as Anna Maria Busch, not Eva Barbara Schmid. The 1835 marriage index and the 1870 burial name Eva Barbara, his stepmother, who raised him.
- S592Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers — Rot am See/Gerabronn, marriages 1806, pp. 128–129, no. 2: Johann Leonhard Pröger and Eva Barbara Schmidt, 4 March 1806. Ancestry record 14580649, image 1528601-00416. Image examined, read 25 September 2026. Confirmed The groom a master weaver at Erkenbrechtshausen, ein Wittwer (a widower); the bride the single daughter of Johann Michael Schmidt, master weaver at Brettenfeld. Married at Triensbach on 4 March after three banns; the index's 2 March is the last banns.
- S738Triensbach marriage register, Bd. 12 pp. 46–47 no. 7, 1836: Georg Friedrich Pröger and Maria Margaretha Stegmaier. Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers, Ancestry record 16798771, film 1860313, image 00902. Image examined, read 26 September 2026. Confirmed “Georg Friedrich Pröger, B. u. Weber in Erkenbrechtshausen”, son of Joh. Leonhard David Pröger and “Eva Barbara geb. Schmidt”, born 27 February 1807; bride Maria Margaretha Stegmaier of the same place, born 10 December 1801, daughter of Georg Simon Stegmaier, weaver; married at Triensbach 20 September 1836.
- S739Großaltdorf and Triensbach baptism, marriage and burial index entries, 1828–1907, for the children of Johann Michael and Georg Friedrich Pröger. Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers (index). Index only, searched 26 September 2026. Probable The parents’ names and places match on every entry. The baptism images for the sons have not been read. Margaretha Barbara’s burial (S788) and Barbara’s baptism (S789) have been, and correct the index: Margaretha Barbara was born 20 January 1829 and died 23 January 1831. Burials and a marriage have since been read (S775, S777, S778) and correct the index: Johann Friedrich died at Hausen on 31 May 1907, and Johann Georg died on 28 February 1904, the 2 March date being his burial. The Württemberg emigration index has no entry for either brother.
- S775Triensbach marriage register, 1864 no. 8: Georg Friedrich Pröger and Margaretha Barbara Bauer, 27 September 1864. Ancestry record 16799012. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 26 September 2026. Confirmed Groom Georg Friedrich Pröger, born 25 December 1838 at Erkenbrechtshausen, son of “† Georg Friedrich Pröger, Weber und Köbler” and Maria Margaretha geb. Stegmaier; bride Margaretha Barbara Bauer of Gröningen, daughter of Johann Michael Bauer. Family register II,343. The cross before the father's name means he was dead by September 1864. A second Georg Friedrich Pröger, a living master weaver (family register II,344, wife the late Catharina Barbara Philipp?), appears on the same page; this entry is ours by its register number and the mother's name. Collection: Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers.
- S776Triensbach burial register, 1887 no. 5: Maria Margaretha Frank, born Stegmaier, died 16 May 1887. Ancestry record 16190318. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 26 September 2026. Confirmed “Maria Margr. Frank g. Stegmaier”, a weaver's widow at Triensbach, died 16 May 1887 of dropsy and was buried 19 May, aged 85 years 5 months. Husbands: I. † Georg Friedr. Pröger, weaver; II. † Joh. Leonhard Frank, weaver at Erkenbrechtshausen. Parents: † Gg Simon Stegmaier, weaver, and † Kathrine Batz. Family register II,343. The same register number as the 1864 marriage (S775), which ties the two entries to one family. It gives her birth as 18 December 1801; her 1836 marriage (S738) says 10 December. Both are secondary for the birth and the question is open until her 1801 baptism is read. Collection: Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers.
