How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

Research status
Research status: PROBABLE, accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence, and added to the tree on his approval of 30 September 2026. Evidence: the index of his daughter Mabel’s death certificate names her father as D. C. Logue
S907; the 1900 census of Waco, read from the image, has D. C. Logue, 42, with his wife Virginia A. and their daughter Mable, 4
S906. Added 30 September 2026
Evidence: The index of his daughter Mabel's 1961 Texas death certificate names her father as D. C. Logue; in 1900 at Waco, read from the image, D. C. Logue, born November 1857, a grocery salesman, heads a household with his wife Virginia A. and their daughter Mable, 4; the Calhoun County, Alabama, marriage register, read from the image, has D. C. Logue marrying Virginia Alice Hamby on 2 April 1890; in 1910 at Cuero he is Dan C. Logue, 52, manager of a cotton mill, with Virginia and Mabel, 14, and in 1920 in Grayson County “Doctor C.” Logue, 60, born in Tennessee; a Find a Grave memorial gives his full name, Dan Crutcher Logue, and his dates, 24 November 1858 to 11 April 1939, buried at Sherman, Texas; the 1860, 1870 and 1880 Tennessee censuses, read from the images, have a Crutcher Logue aged 1, 12 (a mill spinner) and 21, in the households of H. D. and Mary A. Logue and then with a wife Jennie. Weak or missing: The name Dan and his exact dates rest on Find a Grave alone, and nothing read yet ties the Tennessee Crutcher to the Waco D. C. Logue except name, age and mill work; the 1860 and 1870 censuses do not state relationships, so his parents are not proven; the 1880 wife Jennie, 19, cannot be Virginia, born 1867, and is not identified; and the 1900 census gives his birth as November 1857, a year earlier; his daughter’s death certificate is read from its index only; and the 1930 census calls his wife Virginia a widow, which sits against a death in 1939. Life in the order the records give it
Birth1858
Born
24 November 1858 and died
11 April 1939, buried in West Hill Cemetery, Sherman, Texas, by his Find a Grave memorial, which gives his full name and his wife as Virginia Alice Logue
S909 Probable confirm or correct →. The 1900 census, read from the image, gives his birth as November 1857
S906; the 1910 census gives his age as 52
S1080 and the 1920 census as 60, born in Tennessee
S1081Census1900
🆕 In 1900 he was a grocery salesman at 1609 North 6th Street, Waco
S906; in 1910 the manager of a cotton mill at Cuero, DeWitt County
S1080; and in January 1920 in a cotton mill in Grayson County, owning his mortgaged home
S1081. The 1920 enumerator wrote his name “Doctor C.”, an expansion of D. C. added 30 September 2026
Census1880
🆕 In June 1880, in the 7th Civil District of Giles County,
Crutcher Logue, 21, a laborer, heads a household with his wife
Jennie, 19, a weaver in a cotton factory; both are marked as married within the census year
S1110. Jennie cannot be
Virginia Alice Hamby, who was born in July 1867
S906 and married him in 1890
S908, so this looks like an
earlier marriage; Jennie’s maiden name and what became of her are not found.
Probable confirm or correct →Family parents, marriages, children, siblings
Marriage1890
Husband of
Virginia Alice Hamby, married
2 April 1890 in Calhoun County, Alabama, as D. C. Logue, by the Calhoun County marriage register, read from the image
S908; the 1900 census has them married ten years
S906Children1892
🆕 Father of
Leola Logue Piland (1892–1938): her Texas death certificate, read from the image, names her father as “D. C. Louge”, born in Tennessee
S1113; Leola is in his household at Waco in 1900
S906 and, aged 17, at Cuero in 1910
S1080. She was born at Galveston in November 1892
S1113 Probable confirm or correct →Open questions what is probable, weak or missing — confirm or correct it
Weak or missing
What is weak or missing: the 1900, 1910 and 1920 censuses and the marriage are now read from the images, but the name Dan and his exact dates rest on Find a Grave alone, a compiled memorial, not a record (the name Crutcher is now on the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses
S1108S1109S1110), and the 1900 census gives November 1857, not 1858; in 1930 his wife Virginia is enumerated as a widow in her daughter’s household
S924, which does not fit a death in 1939, so either the census or the memorial dates may be wrong, or the couple had separated. His parents are not proven; the 1860 and 1870 censuses point to H. D. and Mary A. Logue
S1108S1109, and the 1920 census gives his birthplace as Tennessee
S1081Probable
🆕
Probably the son of H. D. and Mary A. Logue. In 1860 at McMinnville, Tennessee,
Crutcher, 1, is in the household of H. D. Logue, 32, and Mary, 30, with Florance, Texas and Frank
S1108; in 1870 at Pulaski, Giles County,
Crutcher, 12, is a spinner in the household of Mary A. Logue, 38, a cloth trimmer, with the same Texas and Frank (now Franklin)
S1109; and in 1880 in Giles County Mary Logue, 40, is a widow
S1110.
Probable confirm or correct → Evidence: the uncommon given name Crutcher, his age, Tennessee birth and cotton-mill work, which he kept up as a mill manager in 1910 and 1920. Weak: neither census states relationships, and nothing read yet ties the Tennessee boy to the D. C. Logue of Waco except name, age and trade

Generation 5 — Kristin's great-great-grandparents
- S9061900 U.S. census — D. C. Logue household, Waco, Texas. Ancestry collection 7602, record 43883385. Waco Ward 1, McLennan County: D. C. Logue, 42, head; his wife Virginia A., 32, born July 1867 in Tennessee, married ten years; daughter “Mable”, 4, born October 1895 in Texas. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 30 September 2026: ED 71, sheet 1B, 1609 North 6th Street. Probable On the image: Logue, D. C., born November 1857, grocery salesman; Virginia A., born July 1867, Tennessee, married ten years, the mother of five children, four living; Ethel, born January 1891 in Alabama; Leola; Mable, born October 1895; Hazel; Halbert, born February 1900. The image agrees with the index. It gives D. C.’s birth as November 1857, a year before the 24 November 1858 of his Find a Grave memorial [S909]; Ethel’s Alabama birth in 1891 fits the 1890 Calhoun County marriage [S908].
- S907Texas death certificate index — Mabel Logue Piland, 13 April 1961, Austin. Ancestry record 23640738. Born 31 October 1895, Galveston; died 13 April 1961, Austin, Travis County; father D. C. Logue. Probable Read from the index only; the certificate image has not been examined. The Galveston birthplace sits against the 1900 Waco household (S906); the family may have moved. Second citation, added 1 October 2026: the Texas state death index for 1961, page 971, Ancestry record 5099606, image examined, reads “PILAND MABEL LOGUE | TRAVIS | APR 13 | 24560”, the same death and file number. It is still an index; the certificate itself, with her birthplace and parents, has not been seen.
- S908Calhoun County, Alabama, marriage register — D. C. Logue and Virginia Alice Hamby, 2 April 1890. Alabama County Marriage Records, Ancestry record 901501955, page 123; indexed in Ancestry collection 60000, records 118681 and 1420397. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 30 September 2026. Probable Licence issued 2 April 1890 by Emmett F. Crook, Judge of Probate, to join “D. C. Logue and Virginia Alice Hamby”; the return certifies that the minister solemnized the marriage the same day, 2 April 1890, signed Allen K. Moore(?), pastor of the Christian Church. Until 30 September 2026 this was read from the index only. The register gives no ages, parents or residences.
- S909Find a Grave memorial 97803773 — Dan Crutcher Logue (1858–1939). Gives his full name, his dates (24 November 1858 – 11 April 1939), his burial in West Hill Cemetery, Sherman, Texas, and his wife as Virginia Alice Logue. Probable A compiled memorial, not a record; the dates rest on it alone. Updated 30 September 2026 with the dates the memorial gives.
- S9241930 U.S. census — Mable Piland household, Austin, Travis County, Texas. Ancestry collection 6224, record 60697622. Image examined, read 28 September 2026. Confirmed ED 227-29, sheet 3A: Mable Piland, head, 34, widowed, born in Texas; Alice Lorena, daughter, 15, born in Texas; Virginia Logue, mother, 62, widowed, born in Tennessee. Mabel is widowed by April 1930, which fits Orbin's death in 1929.
- S10801910 United States Federal Census — Cuero, Ward 2, DeWitt County, Texas, ED 34, sheet 5A, dwelling 88. Ancestry record 168623911. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 30 September 2026. Probable Logue, Dan C., 52, manager of a cotton mill; Virginia A., 41, married 21 years, the mother of seven children, six living, born Tennessee; Leola, 17; Mabel, 14; Halbert, 10; and two younger sons. “Married 21 years” points to about 1889, a year before the 1890 licence [S908], within ordinary census error.
- S10811920 United States Federal Census — Justice Precinct 1, Grayson County, Texas, ED 66, sheet 5B. Ancestry record 22745876. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 30 September 2026. Probable 9–10 January 1920: Logue, “Doctor C.”, 60, born Tennessee, cotton mill, owns his home (mortgaged); Virginia A., 51, born Tennessee; and two sons, 17 and 14. “Doctor C.” is the enumerator’s expansion of “D. C.”; the 1910 census has Dan C. [S1080]. Grayson County is where Find a Grave buries him, at Sherman [S909].
- S11081860 United States Federal Census — Warren County, Tennessee, McMinnville, page 208, enumerated 28 August 1860. Ancestry record 22590839. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 30 September 2026. Confirmed Dwelling and family 1305: H. D. Logue, 32, laborer, personal estate $150; Mary, 30, housekeeper; Florance, 8; Texas, 6; Frank, 4; Crutcher, 1; all born in Tennessee. The 1860 census does not state relationships. The index reads Texas as “Tomas” and Frank’s age as 9; the image has Texas, a girl, and 4.
- S11091870 United States Federal Census — Giles County, Tennessee, Pulaski, page 27, enumerated 8 June 1870. Ancestry record 10314881. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 30 September 2026. Confirmed Dwelling and family 236: Mary A. Logue, 38, cloth trimmer; Texas, 17, weaver; Franklin, 15, spinner; Crutcher, 12, spinner; Eva, 9; Eddie, 5; all born in Tennessee; with Malinda Howard, 30, weaver, Martha J. Howard, 4, and Nannie Kirk, 20, spooler. The neighbours are mill hands. No relationships are stated; Mary A. heads the household. H. D. Logue, head in 1860, is not in it.
- S11101880 United States Federal Census — 7th Civil District, Giles County, Tennessee, ED 105, page 47, enumerated 14 June 1880. Ancestry record 9544254. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 1 October 2026. Confirmed Family 495: Crutcher Logue, 21, head, laborer, and Jennie Logue, 19, wife, weaver in a cotton factory; both born in Tennessee to parents born in Tennessee, and both marked married within the census year. Nearby: Mary Logue, 40, widowed, with Texas A., 24, and Eva, 17, both in the cotton factory, and Eddie, 15; and Frank Logue, 23, card stripper, with his wife Elizabeth, 21. The index reads the surname as Longe; the image has Logue, in the same hand as the other Logue lines.
- S1113Texas, Death Certificates, 1903–1982 — Leola Piland, Austin, Travis County, 12 February 1938, file 10327. Ancestry record 83530008. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 1 October 2026. Confirmed Mrs. Leola Piland, of Manor Road, Austin, married, wife of Ruben Piland; born 28 November 1892 at Galveston, Texas; aged 45 years, 2 months, 14 days; a housewife. Father D. C. Louge [sic], born in Tennessee; mother “Virginaa Alice” [sic], no maiden name given, born in Texas. Died 12 February 1938 at Seton Infirmary, Austin; buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, 13 February 1938. Informant: Ruben Piland. Louge is a transposed Logue. The informant was her husband, not a family member of her parents’ generation; he gives her mother’s birthplace as Texas where the 1900, 1910 and 1950 censuses all say Tennessee.
