How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

Research status
Research status: CONFIRMED — named as Maud Warner's father in her 4 February 1896 marriage entry in the Nance County, Nebraska register, read from the image
S463. Her mother's name is left blank on the page
Life in the order the records give it
Birth—
Birth, marriage and death dates not yet found; his wife was probably
Ella Shreckengost (below)
Record1908
🆕 Two records of his children name Clifford Warner's wife as
Ella Shreckengost: the 22 April 1908 Butler County marriage of his daughter
Dessa Warner, born in Greeley County, Nebraska
S682, and the 1956 Spokane death certificate of his son
Claude Dee Warner, born in Nebraska on 24 May 1884
S683.
Probable confirm or correct → Evidence: both records name Clifford Warner and Ella Shreckengost, and Greeley County borders Nance County, where Maud married in 1896.
What is weak: Maud's own marriage entry leaves her mother blank, so that this Clifford is Maud's father rests on the name and the neighbouring county, not on a record naming them together. If you know more, use “Add to this record”. added 26 September 2026.
Family parents, marriages, children, siblings
Parents1858
🆕 His parents:
John Warner, a miller at Winslow, Stephenson County, Illinois, who died in 1858, and
Marancy Warner Probable confirm or correct →. In 1870 Clifford, 19, born in Illinois, lived at Winslow with the widow Marancy Warner, 46
S828; she had married John Warner in Stephenson County in 1841
S825, and John was at Winslow with her in 1850
S826. In 1880, at Cedar Precinct, Boone County, Nebraska, Clifford, 28, farmer, gives his father's birthplace as New York
S824. What is weak: no record names Clifford's parents; the 1870 census has no relationship column, and in 1880 he gives his mother's birthplace as Massachusetts, where Marancy said New York. added 28 September 2026.
Marriage1900
🆕 His wife Ella was married, not widowed, in the 1900 census of Rising City, Butler County, Nebraska
Confirmed S977, and a widow in the 1910 census there
Confirmed S978, so Clifford probably
died before April 1910. No death record for him has been read. added 29 September 2026
Open questions what is probable, weak or missing — confirm or correct it
Probable
🆕 Probably him in 1900:
Cliff Warner, 48, an Illinois native of April 1852 whose father was from Pennsylvania and mother from New York, a railroad labourer, married 23 years but with no wife in the household, was in Brayton Township, Greeley County, Nebraska, with his son
Claude, 16, born May 1884 in Nebraska
Probable confirm or correct → S1062. Evidence: Claude’s birth month and state match Claude Dee Warner’s
S683, and Dessa was born in Greeley County
S682. Weak: Ella is not named, and the 1880 census gave his mother’s birthplace as Massachusetts. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026

- S463Nebraska, U.S., County Marriage Records — Nance County, p. 145: Milton Cleavland and Maud Warner, 4 February 1896. Ancestry record 116059. Image examined, read 25 September 2026. Confirmed Milton Cleavland, 23, born Rockland [Rocklin], California, son of C. E. Cleavland and V. J. Smith; Maud Warner, 18, born Nebraska, daughter of Clifford Warner. Licence 3 February 1896 at Fullerton; married 4 February 1896 at Belgrade. One register page carries both of Ancestry's hints (record 900116059 for Maud). Her mother's name is left blank.
- S682Nebraska marriage record, Butler County, 1908. Ancestry record 1350028307. Image examined, read 25 September 2026. Confirmed George Wustrack to Dessa Warner, 20, born Greeley County, Nebraska, married 22 April 1908; her parents Clifford Warner and Ella Shreckengost.
- S683Washington death certificate, 1956, Spokane. Ancestry record 112503685. Image examined, read 26 September 2026. Confirmed Claude Dee Warner, born 24 May 1884, Nebraska; died 12 February 1956, Spokane; father Clifford Warner, mother Ella Shrekengost.
- S8241880 U.S. Federal Census — Clifford Warner household, Cedar Precinct, Boone County, Nebraska, supervisor's district 2, enumeration district 126, p. 15, dwelling 105, family 111, enumerated 9 June 1880. Ancestry collection 6742, record 48152479 (image 4242184-00402). Image examined, read 28 September 2026. Confirmed Clifford Warner, 28, farmer, born Illinois, father born New York, mother born Massachusetts; Ella, wife, 22, keeping house, born Illinois, parents born Pennsylvania; Maud, daughter, 1 or 2, born Nebraska, parents born Illinois. The census gives Ella's relationship to Clifford, not to Maud. FamilySearch indexes the same page (ark:/61903/1:1:M8Y7-1WJ), so it is not independent. Collection: 1880 United States Federal Census.
- S825Illinois compiled marriage index — John Warner and Muraney Elexander, Stephenson County, 17 May 1841. Ancestry index card; no image. Probable John Warner to Muraney Elexander, 17 May 1841, Stephenson County, Illinois. An index card only; the register has not been read. “Muraney Elexander” may be Marancy Warner, but it has been flagged as possibly another woman.
- S8261850 U.S. Federal Census — John Warner household, Town of Winslow, Stephenson County, Illinois, p. 308, family 930, enumerated 2 October 1850. Ancestry collection 8054, record 16610086 (image 4181046_00232). Image examined, read 28 September 2026. Clifford, born about 1851, is not yet in the household. Collection: 1850 United States Federal Census.

Confirmed Marancy Warner, 46, keeping house, real estate $500, personal estate $100, born New York; Clifford, 19, farm labourer, born Illinois. A two-person household. The 1870 census has no relationship column. Collection: 1870 United States Federal Census.
- S9771900 U.S. census — Rising City, Reading Township, Butler County, Nebraska, ED 11, sheet 2B. Ancestry record 32675489. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 28 September 2026. Confirmed Ella A. Warner, head, born October 1858 in Illinois, parents born Pennsylvania, married (not widowed) 24 years, mother of seven children, five living, renting, with Elsie B., Marion H. and Martha A. Her age and nativity match Ella, 22, in 1880 (S824), and Butler County is where her daughter Dessa married in 1908 (S682). Clifford is not in the household. Image 4120373_00505.
- S9781910 U.S. census — Rising City, Reading Township, Butler County, Nebraska, ED 12, sheet 5A, dwelling 116. Ancestry record 15389719. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 28 September 2026. Confirmed Ella Warner, head, 52, widowed, born Illinois, parents born Pennsylvania, mother of seven children, four living, renting, with Marion, 15, and Martha, 12, both born Nebraska. Same woman as S977: same town, age, nativity and children. Image 31111_4330827-00881.
- S10621900 United States Federal Census — Brayton Township, Greeley County, Nebraska, S.D. 6, E.D. 104, sheet 1B, family 18. Ancestry record 30930088. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 25 September 2026. Probable 21 June 1900: Cliff Warner, head, born April 1852, 48, married 23 years, born Illinois, father born Pennsylvania, mother born New York, labourer on the railroad, renting; Claude, son, born May 1884, 16, born Nebraska, parents born Illinois. No wife in the household. Claude’s May 1884 birth in Nebraska matches Claude Dee Warner’s (S683), and Greeley County is where Dessa Warner was born (S682). The father born Pennsylvania is new; the mother born New York fits Marancy, although Clifford’s 1880 entry says Massachusetts.
