How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

Evidence: The 1900 and 1910 censuses, the 1879 Alameda marriage index and his son Joseph. Weak or missing: His death is only bracketed, 1910–1920; no death record or burial has been found. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →
Life in the order the records give it
Birth1840
Born February 1840, Portugal
the 1900 census gives Feb 1840, age 60
S55, and the 1910 census age 62
S201 Confirmed. The 1920 census gives his son's father's birthplace as
the Azores S314; the island is not recorded. The earlier "c.1864" on this page was our own misreading of the 1900 sheet.
Death1910
Died
between April 1910 and January 1920: alive in the 1910 census
S201, absent in January 1920, when Louise is head of the household
S314. The date "1932" came from a user tree and has been withdrawn: no Alameda Antone Rose/Rosa death appears in the California Death Index for 1932. A FamilySearch tree gives 1911, which no record read so far confirms.
Residence—
Portuguese immigrant in the same township as the Silva family
both of Aileane's
parental lines landed in the same few square miles of Alameda County
S55Family parents, marriages, children, siblings
Children1900
Father of Mildred A. Rose (Aileane's mother)
listed as Head of household
at Washington Township, Alameda County in 1900, with Mildred as Daughter, a twin with her brother Edward
S55Marriage1879
the Alameda County marriage index dates it 3 Jan 1879
S315 (a FamilySearch tree gives 26 Jan; the ceremony date is unconfirmed), and the 1900 census says married 21 years

ark:/61903/1:1:M9PW-6X9. Antone Rose, Head, born February 1840, Portugal, arrival 1870, married 21 years, his own parents both Portugal-born; Louise Rose, Wife, age 44, Portugal (her birth-year column reads 1865, contradicting her own age); Mildred Rose, Daughter, born July 1898, California. The same township as the Silvas, one enumeration district over. ⚠️ These records say "Portugal," not "Azores," and this page does not upgrade them to match the Silvas. "Rose" is the standard Anglicisation of Portuguese Rosa / Roza. 🔑 SUPPLEMENT, 22 September 2026 — the same page re-served (rid 36140745) and read at full resolution. The children are named: Rose (Nov 1879, already married), Louise (June 1885), Antone (June 1887), Joseph (Oct 1888), Frank (May 1891), Edward and Mildred (July 1898), bracketed as twins, and Helen (Oct 1899). ⚠ The mother's age column (44) and birth-year column disagree; the age governs, agreeing with S201, so she was born c.1855–56. - S2011910 U.S. Federal Census — Antone Rose household, Washington Township, Alameda County, California. Ancestry record 938582; ED 157, sheet 4A. Read from the image at full resolution, 22 September 2026. Antone, 62, and Louisa J., 54, immigrated 1880, own the farm free; Antone Jr, Joe and Frank next door. ⚠ Louisa J.'s 54 and the 1900 sheet's age 44 both disagree with the 1865 birth year read from S55; with the 1900 age of 44 they place her birth c.1855–56, and the page now says so. Where Edward, Mildred and Helen are entered in 1910 is also under review.
- S3141920 U.S. Federal Census — Louisa A. Rose household, Washington Township, Alameda County, California. Roll T625_92, ED 212, page 5A; Ancestry collection 6061, record 3288770. Read from the index, 23 September 2026; the image has not yet been read. Louisa A. Rose, Head; Edward Rose, son, 21; Antone Rose, son, 33, widowed; Helen Farrel, daughter, 20, and Wm Farrel, son-in-law, 20. Parents' birthplace Azores. Antone Sr is absent, so he died between April 1910 and January 1920. Louisa is indexed at age 80, against 44 in 1900 and 54 in 1910; read the image before using that age.
- S315Alameda County, California, Index to Marriage Certificates No. 2 — “R” page. Ancestry record 31576, on disk. “Rosa, A. da × L. da G. de Mendonca, Jany 3 79”, Book F[?] p. 225. An index, initials only; the certificate in Book F p. 225 would give her full name. A FamilySearch tree's “Louisa Dagloria Dutra de Mendonça” and 26 Jan 1879 are not supported by this entry beyond “da G.”; “Dutra” is unsupported.
